Reviewed July 23, 2013

Here is an opportunity to see a slice of life when whaling was the major industry in New Bedford. This very well preserved home is authentically furnished with items from the eras of the three families who lived there. Don't miss the beautiful gardens there which complement the lovely house. It would also be a spectacular venue for a wedding, party or event.

This a beautiful historic home which spans a city block. The home was owned by Rotch who made his money in the whaling trade and then was owned by Jones and finally Duff before becoming a museum. The gardens were all in bloom with roses today.

This house museum features the history of the three families that lived there, from the whaling days until the 1960s, so you learn about the old house itself and its rooms are decorated from the different times periods the families lived in the house, and you learn about the history of New Bedford and the neighborhood on County Street that grew up around it. Beautiful gardens in season. Beautiful decorations at Christmas time.

This hous is unique in that it presents 3 different families who have owned this house and has sections of the house devoted to the different eras. They have done a good job in restoring each section of the house in the genre of the 3 prominent families who owned this house before it became a tourist attraction. We did not get to see the gardens as it was late winter, but the photos show a marvelous view during the late spring/summer. Worh the admission.
