We stayed at the Fairmont in Feb of 2013. Every room at the Fairmont is a Suite. They upgraded our room for a view without even asking. We stayed for 5 nights and wished we had more time at the resort. It is absolutely gorgeous. The Fairmont is a large white building with open-air spaces, sweeping archways, and spiraling towers. Our suite came with 2 rooms plus a very large separate bathroom. The living room had 5.1 surround sound system with a sub woofer on a 60" flat TV. It also had a separate box to connect your PS2/XBox or camera to the TV. The living room also had a sofa, chairs, work desk, a bar area with a sink, micro wave, refrig, and coffee maker. The bathroom is very large with a tub, a large walk-in shower area, and 2 sinks with a very large mirror behind them. It had a hair dryer and 2 cotton robes (not the thin cheap type). It also had shampoo, conditioners, and skin lotion. When you walked out to the lobby, there was a walk-around patio that wrapped around the living room and bedroom. The views were incredible. The bedroom had its own big-screen TV, king bed, dressors, night stands, and access to the patio area. You can get a free newspaper if you want (wall st. or regular town newspaper). What I like about the towels is you don't need cards for the towels. You can get as many as you like for the pools, the beach, or even ask the front desk when going somewhere and they will get them for you.

This resort has a great beach area. It has lounge chairs, umbrellas, towels, water, ice-tea, free suntan lotion and is free for all people staying at the hotel. You can go to Big Beach (Makena Beach) which is further South but this beach is as good. You can rent buggy-boards if you want. The best place to rent boards is Dave's Dive Shop in town. You can rent one for $30 for all week. By the pool area, you can get free water, ice-tea, and also pineapple along with free suntan lotion.

Some of the activities the hotel provides are:
- Large adult pool - heated and open 24x7 (this pool is fantastic)
- Canoe Experience - 1 hour in the ocean (sign-up early or book it in advance)
- Hawaiian Cultural Tour - 45 minute walk
- Learn the Hawaiian Language
- Yoga, water Aerobics, Pilate classes
- SPA
- Kid's Camp
- Many Fairmont Stores

Restuarants at the Fairmont:
- KO - Hawaiian, Chinese, Filipino, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese food. Get reservations
- Kea Lani - Open Air Breakfast Buffet (very good buffet)
- Polo Beach Grille & Bar - great for lunches and drinks around the pool
- Nick's Fishmarket - Great Bar, Great Food. We had dinner here (try the fish/lobster tacos)
- Cafe Ciao Bakery & Deli - Has everything you need - good deli sandwiches
- In-Suite Dining

Pros:
- This is truly a 5-star experience
- Hotel is gorgeous
- Wailea area is gorgeous
- No cards for towels
- Free water, ice-tea, lotions, pineapple
- Great beach area with free umbrellas
- Great dining
- Adult pool is great, plus it is heated
- Nice Fitness Center
- Valet knew our names after the first day - very friendly and helpful
- Micro-wave for when you box your dinner

Cons:
- No free internet, not even in the business room
- $17 a day to park, or $25 for Valet (we used valet everyday - for a little more a day it is worth it if you are going places all the time). This is kinda like paying a resort fee everyday at other hotels.

Room Tip: We stayed in P98 Suite. The view was spectacular. Check out the pictures.

We returned in late January-early February to the Fairmont Kea Lani and from all appearances renovations are finally complete. Ticking back over the long list ... the rooms updated in spite of what some people are reporting, hallways re-carpeted and updated with new art and furnishings, all new elevators, lobby and public areas re-painted in comforting earth tones ... exterior re-painting appeared to be complete as we noticed no scaffolding or paint crews ... the pool decks are just gorgeous with stonework replacing concrete and a couple years back all pool furniture wasn't just updated it was upgraded to cushioned lounge chairs for everyone. The hotel's signature restaurant, "Ko" is now open in it's spectacular new digs ... the center of which is a large circular bar, part of which is set at dining chair level for those who simply prefer to dine at the bar. The old Ko bar was miniscule ... seated about 8 at best ... this one would have to seat at least 20 all around and not one but two bartenders are on duty. The full menu service at the bar, by the way, is provided with as much flair as it is at the tables. Speaking of those they are set off in such a way diners experience significantly more privacy than at most other restaurants on Maui we've been to. The restaurant seats a lot of people but never seems crowded for this reason. The menu is first rate ... we didn't have a bad meal there in two weeks. Kudos to bartenders Tom and Kaz and the wait staff.

Back to the hotel itself, while the facilities and grounds are spectacular and, unlike other resorts on the street, spacious and bright and airy ... uncrowded ... the real secret to the Kea Lani sauce is the staff. They are always smiling. They greet you by name more often than not and they seem genuinely interested in their guests being made to feel welcome and at home. The staff at the Fairmont Kea Lani is just plain blue chip without being pretentious in the least ... they treat you like family and embody the aloha spirit. Many have been there for years and remember your individual preferences as though it was yesterday that you were a guest.

Other reviews have detailed room amenities such as the fabulous large bathrooms and spacious lanais in this all suite hotel. We suggest you request ocean front rather than ocean view as reading reviews of disappointed guests who confuse the two designations this should probably be better understood. Ocean view means a view of the ocean - generally down the side of the building. Ocean front means exactly that. The lanai fully faces the ocean. There are also mountain view rooms which would get the morning sun rather than afternoon. For the most spectacular views ask for a Kilohana Suite. Pricey but you get a lanai that wraps around the suite both fronting the ocean above the villas and on the other side with a beautiful view of the pools and gorgeous landscaping of the resort. The only drawback to these suites is they are a long haul from the elevators although they are a quick walk down tower stairs to the Polo Beach pool with the swim up bar and restaurant or down to the beach itself. These rooms offer a full view of both the beach and the ocean.

We have watched the hotel evolve through two owners and it's better today than ever under GM Charles Head. Our congratulations to him and his entire staff. We booked our return for next year the day we left. Mahalo!

Room Tip: Kilo Hana Suites are the best view and larger size

Our family, which included 5 adults and 2 children (8 & 6), stayed in the 3 bedroom oceanfront villa. It was absolutely amazing with views and accommodations. We were there during whale watching season and spent most mornings and sunsets watching the whales get as close as the pools were from the villas. Polo beach was fantastic for both kids and adults. We were always able to get a prime sandy spot allowing the girls to build castles and ride waves on boogie boards. With the private plunge pool on the villa deck, we only used the main swimming pool after check out.

Our villa was located just behind the outdoor massage tent and we felt bad at times for being noisy. I would recommend they move the tent. The housekeeping was great!

The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the concierge service was not up to par for a luxury resort. They gave inconsistent information out each time I spoke with them, before and during the trip. I spoke with different providers each time. Some of the concierge would make recommendations based on my needs and others made recommendations based on money making opportunities for the resort. This was very obvious when it came to seeing turtles, for example. Two-three of the individuals stated you could snorkel right off Polo beach and other nearby beaches. Other individuals stated we needed to take a yaht or private boat tour to see turtles. By the way, I would recommend going with Chris (from the Polo Beach dive shop) in a kayak and he will take you to see whales, swim with turtles and tell you how to get there on your own. If you do this at the beginning of your visit, you have the rest of the time to go on your own and feel familiar with the Wailea oceanfront area.

I should also mention, we did not eat the breakfast. We did; however, load up with groceries and was able to eat breakfast every morning in our villa and even had a few other meals there.

Room Tip: In the long run, you can save a lot more money if you have a villa or suite with a small kitchen. G...

Stayed at the Fairmont for five nights in March 2013, with husband and teenager. Overall very clean, well maintained gardens and pleasant beach location with lots of space to spread out and explore the grassy grounds, beach, pools, lounges and various restaurants, especially compared to newer more cramped feeling resorts.

Choosing to stay here, we did expect the food to be expensive but were surprised and a little irritated at some of the details about food and beverage charges. Happy hour discounts were promoted by the bartenders at several of the restaurants but only after ordering did we find out that it only applied to a very limited selection of drinks (and not the ones we had just ordered). We also had a few instances of over-priced food charges (in our view), for example on one occasion they charged $10 for a single scoop of mashed potatoes and $9 for two pieces of Bok Choy, both ordered as side dishes at Ko restaurant. On several occasions at different hotel restaurants there were errors on our restaurant tabs which we had to get corrected or reversed. If you are signing charges to the room, be sure to check your final bill carefully on check-out too. We discovered several hundred dollars of erroneous charges on our bill which we fortunately took the time to review in detail the night before checkout. The false charges were corrected very courteously without hassle but really shouldn't have happened at all. No major food related complaints despite the nit-picking we had to do on our restaurant tabs. It just became apparent that errors were happening readily and we didn't just want to let them slide, on principle. Would have been more relaxing if we didn't feel we had to check everything over meticulously before signing though. One time they indicated that they had accidentally left the tab open on the table we were sitting at, from the previous guests who sat there.

On the plus side, the restaurants were generally very accommodating with special requests and they had a decent selection of healthy (vegan and macrobiotic etc) food choices, which is rare. On two nights we couldn't get a table at either Ko or Nick's which were fully reserved so we ended up dining in the Luana lounge area. We were able to order food from the Ko restaurant menu and have it in the lounge. Worked out brilliantly as we had a quiet table with a gorgeous sunset view and food from the fine dining restaurant.

Generally, there seemed to be lots of staff at all times, most of them very friendly and attentive. The weather was warmer than we might have anticipated for spring-time which was a definite bonus and really made the trip.

One other minor disappointment was the outrigger canoe experience, or rather lack thereof, that we had read about on previous reviews. On arrival we were told by the person who showed us to our room to make sure not to miss the free canoe experience which happens several times daily. The next morning we tried to book it with the concierge and were told that it was booked through until the middle of the next month!

On balance, our complaints were relatively minor and didn't spoil the gorgeous setting and facilities at the Fairmont. After checking out neighbouring resorts and nearby restaurants, we felt that just staying at the Fairmont was our preferred choice for food and setting/activities, no need to venture out, just stay and enjoy it!

Our suite itself was average in condition and decor but the beds and linens were clean and comfy. Having two separate showers in the spacious bathroom was a bonus. We would recommend this as a solid resort with a good overall ambiance.

Aloha and thank you for your review. We’re so sorry to learn about the discrepancies on your food and beverage tabs during your stay. Please be assured that accuracy and transparency are held at the utmost importance – our guests should never question if charges are legitimate. Also, while we do encourage advance booking for the Hawaiian Canoe Experience on our website and confirmation emails, we understand that It is frustrating to be on property and miss the opportunity to experience it. Thank you for your feedback, as it provides us the opportunity to improve. In fact, since your review, our Food & Beverage team is working on a more appealing Happy Hour food and drink menu for future guests. We’re pleased to hear that you overall had a positive experience, but do apologize for the challenges you faced. Aloha and best wishes.

We're here for 10 days over spring break. Suites were great for 4 travelers. Kids slept 10hours a night and loved the kids club, beach and pool. Pool service was really slow, but the servers were nice. Ask for a higher floor so you can see all the whale activity. We saw tons of breeches etc from our room. Amazing!

My wife, 13 year old son and I stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani in April 2012. The moment we pulled up to this stunning resort in beautiful Wailea, we realized we were in for something very special.
The entire staff, from arrival until our departure, was attentive, friendly and more than accomodating to our every need. The grounds, restaurants, bars, and suites are all meticulously maintained and magnificent.
The pools and beach are the finest on Maui. We boogie boarded, snorkeled, and enjoyed
the fabulous view of the whales several times during our visit.
With the separate adult pool, waterslide, hot tubs, family pool with swim up bar and restaurant,
roomy grass areas to enjoy the sun in privacy, we couldn't have asked for a better experience.
It is across the road from the world renowned Wailea golf courses and located on the beach boardwalk, which we enjoyed strolling daily. If you are a golfer, you have 4 world class golf courses within five minutes to choose from. My son and I played daily while
my wife enjoyed the luxurious spa and relaxing in the cabanas by the pool
The Fairmont Kea Lani's roomy villas are unique to Wailea luxury resorts. Enormous bathrooms with marble throughout, spacious master bedroom and living area.
Our balcony had an unbelievable view of the water, beaches, mountains and neighboring
islands. Definitely, we will be back!
