We enjoyed two weeks of absolute heaven at The Fairmont Kea Lani. We arrived in late October about one week before our wedding ceremony at the Kea Lani on November 2nd. It s hard to decide where to start with our review everything was excellent! We enjoyed a beautiful full ocean view suite on the 4th floor overlooking the upper pool and swim-up bar. The rooms at the Kea Lani are all magnificent suites. The living room was very spacious and also included a small kitchen area with a mini-fridge, sink, and microwave. The kitchen set up was incredibly accommodating. The audio/video equipment included a large TV plus a DVD/CD/VCR combination all tucked away in an attractive armoire. The bedroom also included a nice sized TV. The living room and bedroom offered full glass walls to the grounds and ocean with access to the very large lanai. Unlike most properties the lanais at the Kea Lani are spacious and quite accommodating for dining and relaxing. The bedroom included two closet areas and very tasteful décor especially the brilliant white bed coverlet. Speaking of white Kea Lani means Heavenly White in Hawaiian. We found the white and soft toned colors extremely tasteful. Some rooms are under renovation with some dark woods and bold colors. We took a peek at one of the rooms, but actually prefer the non-renovated white rooms. However, we were only able to see a color room that was being cleaned and was somewhat torn up by housekeeping. The bathrooms at the Kea Lani are extraordinary. Spacious doesn t even begin to describe the bathrooms. Two pedestal sinks, a large soaking tub, and a large walk in shower are all swathed in marble and granite. Another plus: the hallways are partially open at the resort adding to the open and casual feel. The arched design of the architecture provided many spectacular views...we especially enjoyed the 6th floor alcove. The architecture of the property is amazing. The entire resort is bathed in white and is especially striking when set against the blues of the sky and ocean and the greens of Haleakala s slopes (volcano) and well-manicured grounds. We ve spent time at numerous resorts around the world and can easily report the Kea Lani is spectacular in terms of its physical setting. The architecture is especially unique with multiple arches and turrets. The property has three pools with waterfalls and quaint arched bridges. A slide operates between the upper and lower pools. The upper pool includes a swim up bar to the Polo Beach Bar and Grille (very tasty food at this outlet). The property also has two very large hot tubs. The third pool is offered as adult only. Poolside massages are offered under cabanas from the Spa at Kea Lani. Poolside service was wonderful. The colleagues at the Kea Lani bring frequent rounds of cool mint scented towels and pineapple slices. Pool toys for kids can be rented but the property also allows guests to bring their own toys. One of favorite events occurred each night after sundown the lighting of the tiki torches. The property is especially impressive at night with very dramatic lighting from the torches and landscape lights. In comparison to the Four Seasons and the Grand Wailea, the grounds at the Kea Lani are far superior. The Four Seasons feels very stuffy and overtly formal. Beautiful, yes, but not all the relaxing. The grounds at the Grand Wailea are certainly impressive, but smack of overwrought Las Vegas style. The Kea Lani grounds are immaculate, but very tasteful, understated and open. Polo Beach is very nice and is just the right size. The sand is soft and the staff is willing to bring beach chairs at any moment. Several outcroppings of rocks on the sides provide very good snorkeling. Unlike most reviews we can provide an assessment of the villas and the suites. Family members arrived for our wedding and occupied two ocean front villas. Each villa was two levels with two king bedrooms with TV s and two huge bathrooms similar to the bathrooms in the suites. The upstairs also offers a huge walk in closet nearly the size of a room. The suites offer a washer/dryer and a full kitchen with all amenities. The hotel stocks the fridge with basic refreshments. In addition to ample dining room space, the living room has a TV/DVD/CD/VCR combo and a pull out sofa bed. The lanais are huge and each included a plunge pool (mini sized swimming pool) and a professional series gas grille. The villas are literally steps from the beach. The only suggestion we could offer the furniture could use some updating in the villas as the fabrics were a bit worn. We can t possibly provide enough compliments regarding the staff. Friendly, approachable, thoughtful, and helpful, the staff members at the Kea Lani are among the best anywhere. Upon arrival you ll enjoy superb valet staff (complimentary at all times). The staff brings leis and tropical fruit juice at check-in. The housekeeping staff members were especially pleasant. The hotel understands that a property can only shine when coupled with extraordinary colleagues. Our wedding coordination was superb with every detail of our on-property wedding executed to perfection. Several times we enjoyed little tokens sent to our suite in celebration of our special stay. The restaurants at the Kea Lani were wonderful. We enjoyed Café Ciao and Deli for both light treats and dinner and the Kea Lani Restaurant for the breakfast buffet. We actually had reservations twice for Nicks Fishmarket, but due to our busy schedule we had to cancel both times. All reviews of Nicks we ve read have been very complimentary and the setting is very beautiful. When visiting Maui, stay at The Fairmont Kea Lani. You won t regret the decision. It truly is heavenly!! Enjoy!!

My wife and I got married this August in Maui, and after doing research, chose to stay at the Kea Lani. The staff and service were wonderful. We were greeted with a very classy room upgrade, and Champange upon our arrival. The staff was very helpful about giving us directions to whatever our destination.

The grounds and view of the Kea Lani are beautiful. The best views of the sunsets we got in all of Hawaii came from the bench at the Kea Lani. The pools are attended by a large group of staff that will happily get you anything you wish. Polo Beach at the Keni Lan has good surf for boogie boarding, and some very fine snorkeling in the volcanic rock areas to either side of the beach. the prices to rent equipment are very high at the resort, so if you plan to do any snorkeling rent for the week from Boss Frogs, or one of the other shops close by in Khei. You will pay for the week what the resort charges for the day.

I also recommend that you make reservations to eat at Nick's Fish Market for at least one night of your stay. Located on the grounds of the Kea Lani, it is top quality service from start to finish. The dishes are Mediterranean influenced seafood, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. My wife has some food allergies, and they bent over backward to assure that the meal was prepared to her needs.
You do pay for this level of service, but it is worth it to treat yourself for one night.

Overall, we had a great time in our 7 days at the Kea Lani. We plan to get back to Maui as soon as we can, and will have no hesitation about booking with the Kea Lani again.

My wife and I just returned from a week at the Fairmont Kea Lan, celebrating our 25th anniversary. We were treated extremely well by all the staff. When we got there our reservations had been messed-up by our travel agent and the hotels front staff went to great lengths to help straighten it out. To make things even better they gave us a room upgrade at no additional cose. Something they didn't have to do because it wasn't their error. During our stay we went down to the Four Seasons and the Grand Wailea to check them out. While both were 'nice', neither had the same level of class while still making you feel right at home.
If you eat on property, the prices are a little high. But everything is exspensive in Hawaii. We will definetly go back.

My husband and I honeymooned at the Fairmont in October of 2003. It was a dream come true. Definately buy the breakfast buffet package - it is to die for - very fresh excellent variety of of top quality breakfast foods. Service was unbelievable, staff was soooo friendly. Rooms were very pretty, and the bathrooms were excellent, I loved the shower and never wanted to get out! The pools were great because you have the no kids option, of it being quiet, or you can go to the kids allowed pool and go down the slide. I especially loved the mint ice cold towels passed out daily by the pool and fresh pineapple. Yes it is expensive, but it is well worth it. This hotal has thought of all the details!

We stayed 12 days, starting on November 16 and leaving on Thanksgiving
day. Overall, our experience with the Kea Lani was fantastic. We
debated between Kea Lani & the Four Seasons and opted for Kea Lani
based on the "suite" room--and we weren't disappointed. Both the living
room & bedroom were spacious & comfortable. The bathroom was HUGE (two
sinks, huge tub, separate walk-in shower), with the toilet behind a
separate enclosed door. When traveling with kids, the
microwave/minifridge cannot be overestimated! We received great service
from housekeeping and found our garden-level patio to be a great
addition (for meals, activities for our 8 year old, etc.) The grounds
were beautiful, (torchlit at night) and the beach was pristine and more
than adequate in size. Our son loved the pools & the slide. We were
right next door to the kids club which was outstanding and very
professionally run. Our son went for one day and begged to go back the
next. Bonnie the person who runs it is a sweetheart and great with the
kids (cost is $55 a day for one kid). The concierge service was
excellent ( prepared for any request), while the sevice at the
activities desk was more average (seemed understaffed). The valet
(included) service was wonderful (got towels for us as we departed on
snorkel trips, etc.) There was a slight change for the worse during the
busier few days right before the Thanksgiving holiday holiday as the
pool area became a little overcrowded people were reserving chairs. A
bit frustrating was the $50 a day charge for the shaded "cabana" areas
by the pool and beach (essentially two padded chairs under a shaded
tent), however may be the only way to regulate their use. With respect
to food, Nick's Fishmarket was superb. Pricey but worth it with
outstanding food, service and atmosphere. They even made an impromptu
bed for our son when he fell asleep the first time by pushing two soft
padded chairs together. The buffet was a bit overpriced but we found
the food to be solid. By far the best value was the the excellent
italian deli Cafe Ciao. Everything we tasted there was excellent. We
made many outstanding meals just by combining their various pasta
salads and sandwiches etc. Avoid the attached Italian restaurant
though. Really not worth it.

Overall our experience at Kea Lani was outstanding, although I think it
perhaps slightly more ideal for families than honeymooners. Outside of
the hotel, Shaka Pizza in Kihei was a great hole in the wall for pizza,
hoagies etc as a break from the nice meals. We rented our snorkel
equipment from Snorkel Bob in Kihei. The woman who runs (Sue?) Snorkel
Bob was incredibly sweet and helpful, giving us great tips and letting
us have a free ride on our extra couple of days over the week rental.

Other fun highlights included a hike to the "fish bowl" a wonderful snorkel site reached by walking 30 minutes over the lava fields about fifteen minutes south of Kea Lani ( probably only for older kids though) and snorkeling off of the Maui Prince beach where we had multiple close encounters with the majestic sea turtles. A wonderful vacation for our whole family. Thanks Kea Lani and Maui.
