Would give it a 5 star rating except the lounge chair situation is terrible. There just isn't enough room for lounge chairs around the pools or on the beach. You have to pay extra to reserve a lounge chair or take your chances. Most chairs remain empty with towels on them for most of the day and the others are reserved. I really don't think one should pay extra for a lounge chair at a resort. Isn't that what you pay top $ for? With that said, I still enjoyed by 5 days at the Kea Lani because of location, the rooms are all suites with a large bathroom, the service was friendly and prompt, the place is beautiful. The carpets in the hallways are worn but clean and one elevator was out but since we were on third floor I mostly took the steps. The wifi did not work in our room but they came in about 5 minutes to install an new router which fixed the problem. We also requested extra pillows which also came in less than 5 minutes. We arrived at 4:00pm and room was not ready when check-in is at 3:00pm, but they bought us drinks at the bar until room was ready. The food at Ko was excellent. We had a moderate room which faced the mountain side with a large balcony. I never like to spend extra money on ocean view because I spend 90% of the time in my room sleeping. We watched sunsets from the beach and sunrises from our balcony. We were there at Spring break so that may be the reason it was so busy and there were no lounge chairs. Still, Ritz Carltons and Four Season hotels I've stayed at have never charged for lounge chair and umbrellas. It is really the only small negative in a lovely hotel with a great staff of very friendly people who provide excellent customer service. The adult pool is very large and a real plus. They have a shuttle service that will take you anywhere in the local area and pick you up, no charge. Kids enjoyed the hotel and the extra activities available to them. The gym is modest in size and we did not us the Spa. Beds were very comfortable. Would stay here again.

We had another excellent stay here. The grounds are beautiful, the staff attentive and friendly. The new room service menu with lots of healthy choices for adults and children was appreciated. My husband loves the self park option. The breakfast buffet pretty reasonably priced considering the quality. The pool and beach amenities were excellent. Shops for last minute beachwear quite reasonably priced as well. We felt comfortable here with 3 little kids, enjoyed our suite. The rooms themselves could use fresh carpeting, but really no other complaints. Next time might try out a villa or a bigger suite when kids larger.

We had a very nice suite with an ocean view and in very good condition but the size of the hotel and the number of kids staying over the Easter vacation meant it was very busy and very noisy and the pool areas and beach very crowded.
Youngsters shouting off their balconies at 6.00am was also not appreciated.
I would say this place was fine for families with kids but....................

Room Tip: Don't go during school holidays.

What an amazing resort! Located on the best part of Maui with it's own private beach, Polo beach, go snorkeling, scuba diving, watch the sun set. Close to great restaurants. Spa is perfect. They have adult and kids pools. Can't wait to go back.

We spent 2 weeks here in Sept. 2011, with our 3 year old daughter. This hotel is amazing! Its an all suite property with huge, remodeled rooms, a beautiful location right on the beach, hotel is not too big or small, and great for families w/ kids of all ages. The restaurants are very good with a wonderful happy hour each day. It is also walking distance to many restaurants and shops at Wailea along with a few other hotels. The service is top notch with gracious, friendly staff.

I would definitely stay here again, and can't wait to go back.

My family and I stayed at the Fairmont in September 2011. At that moment everything was half price because of maintenance works at their premier restaurant. One trip organiser advised us against staying there, but Tzell (american travel agents) booked us a one bedroom suite for half the price and it was such a treat!

We travelled with our son, 7 months old at the time. With the spacious ocean view suite on the 6th floor, we had all the space we needed, a high chair and cot, a small fridge, microwave, a huge bathroom with both shower and bath, and they even provided a small baby hampering bag with bath duck, bath gel etc.

Service, including room service (extra cutlery, plates for baby food, etc as requested) was impeccable. At the pool they would automatically ask if we wished a baby cot and extra towels for our baby, to keep it shady and for napping during the day. It was outside school holidays, so for couples, the children/babies weren't too overwhelming, but they have an adults only pool as well. So even if they really do cater for families, I wouldnt worry about staying there without kids.

The signature Koh restaurant was closed for maintenance, but their signature dishes were available at the other restaurants, and having a room at the 6th floor ensured peace and quiet for us. During the day we were normally at the pool or at the beach (small but not too crowded - and relatively calm - at least in September) and we couldn't hear the work going on. So we practically got a full Fairmont experience at half the price. Cutting 50% off was great service and shows the attitude of this truly 5 star hotel. Every person there was accomodating and friendly -from the people that checked us in, the room service and pool staff to the waiters at the restaurants. Also, there's a much appreciated coffee shop with nice espressos, small dishes to go, breakfast snacks, fruit, wine, cakes and everyday stuff (sunscreen etc) - great to get some snacks to the room, a pizza and wine to go for a quiet night etc.

The beach boardwalk is a bit "commercial" in the sense that it takes you from one resort to another (easy with a stroller, for a run etc). You can lunch at the Four Season next door or you can go to a Luau at a neighboring resort - stroll along the coast - maybe with a flashlight at night - without problems. We went to the the Marriott (since a lot of others were sold out, amongst them the Old Lahaina which supposedly should be one of the best). It turned out to be pretty good. The food was so so and it was a huge barbecue with plastic tables seating 8-10 people each. You should go for the sunset entertainment, the dance (which was quite professional and impressive) and not the food and the layout of the whole thing. A bit too big and commercial for our taste, but hey - we went to a luau. ;) The point is we could walk to and from the whole thing and have our baby sleeping in the stroller.

At the restaurants at Fairmont we could have him sleeping in the stroller as well. So either roomservice at our balcony or late dinner in the lovely Hawaiian evenings. Not bad at all.

The prices are a bit high, but what you should expect at a place like this.

All in all, even if the prices were not 50% off, we would definitely consider staying there again. The ocean view is SO worth it. We had some amazing sunsets. And the suites on the top floors are perfectly situated. The ambience was luxurious but understated, so you could feel at ease in casual summerwear and not out of place in summer slippers ;) You can walk to the shops at Wailea (though a bit hot) and make use of the stretch of beaches via the path to the neighboring resorts. If you like a resort stay with all amenities available and the privacy of your own suite, this is a great place! Beautiful grounds that were spacious but still with an intimate feeling (not like the Grand Wailea which litterally felt like a circus as we walked through it - or a teenage springbreak with loud music and loud people - in comparison)..

GO GO - to the Fairmont. :O)

Room Tip: Ocean view is gorgeous because of the sunsets! High floors for better views.

This is a fantastic property. It is located in a quieter area of Maui in Wailea. What I like about this location is that it is less populated and it seems to be less windy. It is an upscale area so shopping and restaurants are on the higher end but if you have a car, you should be fine to go wherever.

This hotel is extremely clean and the service is great. The rooms are tremendously comfortable. I believe that all of them have a front room that includes a desk, flat screen tv and longer l shaped couch that can be used for an extra kid or two to sleep on. The beds are ultra comfortable. It includes a very large bathroom and really nice balcony, as well. I can't think of anything negative to say about this property. It was tremendously comfortable and clean. The restaurants do get fairly expensive but this is Maui. If you are out by the pool, there is a nice option to go just inside of the pool area and grab sandwiches, drinks, salads, etc from a store that has a bakery inside. In other words, you have options.

I would recommend this resort to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: I had a room right by the elevator and overlooking the pool. It was an incredible location. If you...
