“Friendly, helpful staff - beautiful beach and spacious room”
Reviewed June 28, 2011

The staff at the Fairmont were so gracious from the moment we arrived, draping a fresh lei on us, offering a free night of valet parking, and kindly showing us multiple views from multiple rooms to help us make our selection. The breakfast wait staff were friendly and quick, the food is great, and the beach is gorgeous.

The rooms are a little outdated, but are apparently about to be refurbished...and they are spacious son you don't feel like you're at all pressed for room. Comfy beds.

We are having a wonderful time and, so far, would recommend this hotel highly!

stayed 4 nights for a quick getaway with the family. booked it through costco travel (most economical package i could find). as a fairmont president's club member, i was treated as if i had booked it directly with the fairmont hotels. the front desk, concierge, and valet staff were very cordial and did their best to always greet you by name. poolside service was great. the hotel is going through construction right now but i know they are offering up very good packages during the facelift. the decco is a bit outdated but not very noticable because the whole resort is still a treat and beachside. i stayed at down the street at the grand wailea and if my children were older/teenagers, they may like that better. personally, that resort is too big and it seemed like a trek to get from the pool to the garden side rooms. for any 4-5 night trips and you want something nicer, book the fairmont. although in future, we plan to do something longer and find a timeshare if taking the whole family.

Everything about the Kea Lani lived up to our expectations. The oceanfront suites are like having a luxury apartment for the week. Pools, restaurants, bars, shops, and especially service by the hotel staff were all top-notch. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view suite on a high floor - awesome!

My husband & I just recently returned from our first trip to Maui (Jun.3-13) and we stayed @ The Fairmont Kea Lani. We are Fairmont loyalists due to the fact we usually always receive superb service within a beautiful environment. Kea Lani was no different and in fact exceeded our expectations! To begin; at a very reasonable price we were upgraded from a deluxe ocean view suite to a 2 bedroom ocean-front Villa with private plunge pool, barbeque, full kitchen & 2 full bathrooms & private laundry. Amazing! We were even greeted with a welcome bag of mostly Hawaiian goodies. Considering this was our 1st visit & a "2nd Honeymoon" (although our 1st honeymoon was Costa Rica), it fulfilled our dreams! The service, including; housecleaning (exceptional!), turn-down to concierge, room service, valet, restaurants, pool-side, etc. etc. was nothing but top-notch! Yes, it can be "pricey" but it is the Fairmont and like they say, "You get what you pay for". If one really wants to get "nit-picky" our only complaints would be the following: 1) table service @ breakfast (where the buffet is also served) is very slow & the coffee tastes weird. Twice we ate there & both times service was lacking & the coffee was nasty. The servers appeared confused regarding who were buffet guests & who were table service guests. We saw some guests get so frustrated they up & left. We usually stuck to room-service on our private lanai (AMAZING!!!) or made our own or ate elsewhere. 2) I was NOT impressed with my Spa service. We had read in advance some negative feedback about the Spa but we felt we would give them a try due to the fact everything else was so amazing. I booked an 80 min facial & it rated maybe a 3 or 4 out-of 10. I felt the entire time my therapist really didn't connect, talked too much & it seemed she was more concerned about trying to sell me products than provide a relaxing, spa-like experience. She even chose not to give me the facial I requested (although I mentioned it twice). It was far too clinical & sales-pitchy. She even left me over $500 worth of products she recommend I purchase at the desk! I am traveling, what do I want with a load of additional, heavy cosmetics & electrical appliances!!! Ridiculous. I felt I could have washed my face with soap & water, applied my moisturizer to my face & I would have felt better & it wouldn't have cost me a bundle or wasted my precious vacation time. Very disappointing. My husband had an 80 min massage & rated it about a 7 out-of 10. Better than my service. We still have to say..."The Wickaninnish Inn" in Tofino, BC is still the spa leader in our book....& we've been to many spas ;) ...3rd & last) Diving lesson: My husband took a diving lesson booked through concierge, in 1 of the pools & he was totally disappointed. He kept telling the instructor that the mouth piece was damaged (bitten by a previous student) & didn't fit correctly but the instructor ignored him repeatedly. Part of the cost was a dive in the ocean following the lesson. My husband wisely declined! Very disappointing for him as this was something he was very excited about experiencing. 4) The carpets in the main hotel rooms/hallways really need updating & the beautiful bathrooms in the Villas need additional LIGHTING. If a woman is trying to put on makeup or a man is trying to shave it's also impossible to see!!! The upstairs bath has natural lighting from 2 windows which helps in the morning at least. Also, there is a real need of additional towel racks/hooks. Also, valet stands in the Villa bedrooms would be helpful as well as a wall mirror situated near the windows in both bedrooms & a small one near the hallway entrance front door. The walk-in closet/safe area needs refurbishing. The kitchen in the Villas should be automatically stocked with champagne glasses (we had to request these from housekeeping) & a pair of kitchen sheers would be very useful. As well, we didn't see recycling containers anywhere in the suites??? We are avid recyclers so we found this a bit disturbing. So that is it! Other than those few critiques, our stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani was MAGNIFICENT!!! Can't wait to return.

We attended in June with my Husband's company on a business trip.
The evening we arrived we were greeted and treated like we were Royalty.
Everyone was very friendly.

Our room was clean and spacious.
The bed was extremely comfortable.
The turn down service was exceptional.

The breakfast buffet was awesome.
The omelettes were wonderful.
The birds are definately a nuisance.
They fight with you over your food.

The music provided for the business conference dinner was by a local who is awesome. We even bought Howard Ahia's CD.

Meals are pricey. I'm glad we were not responsible for paying them.

The grounds are beautiful. The beach is gorgeous too.
The chairs are free out on the beach. The umbrellas had a fee.

We also found out the day we were leaving that 2 famous people were spotted around. One at this resort and one on the beach.

A nice outdoor mall and restaurants are just a mile down the road. Also a Starbucks nearby.

I attended a business conference at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui in June 2011. The property is beautiful and you can see the beach from the lobby. There are three pools, one is an adult only pool. The property is open, clean and very spacious. The staff was very accomodating and super helpful. They even offer hospitatlity suites to use after checking out if you have a late flight and want to enjoy your trip to the last minute.

Most of the people brought families to the conference which was easy at this hotel. The rooms are all suites so you have plenty of space for the family. Each room included a full balcony, living room, large bathroom with seperate toilet, large garden tub and shower with no door.

Food and drinks at the hotel are very expensive. All rooms also have a refridgerator, microwave and wet bar sink so you can bring your own alcohol and food to save money. Wailea is not too far from the airport and there are several beach towns near by if you want to get off the resort.

We added a few days onto the trip to make a vacation of the time which I highly recommend. We will definately be back next time we come to Maui!

Room Tip: go with a group or conference for best rates

This hotel was very pretty and rooms were spacious and had great views. We had a corner room so the balcony wrapped around 2 sides which made a great outdoor space to relax. They provided a shuttle to local restaurants and attractions which meant you didn't have to worry about having drinks at dinner and driving. The restaurants on site were nice. Thought that Nick's Fish Restaurant was a bit over the top - they would refill your water glass after every sip which was annoying but the meal was good. The recommendations from the front desk were right on as far as where to go and what to see. They made all our reservations and were very helpful and pleasant. Great pools, nice spa, and loved the on site laundry facilities.
