Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea
Ranked #2 of 8 Hotels in Wailea
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 29, 2005

My wife and I recently spent 3 nights at this wonderful hotel in the Wailea section of Maui. So many great things to say. The hotel is beautiful, the pool area and beach are fantastic, if a bit crowded. The food and restaurants are amazing, and the Four Seasons always gives a great service experience. For instance, one day, after returning from the beach, I noticed that on the made-up bed, one of the pillowcases had a small stain. No big deal. I called Housekeeping, reported it, and within 15 minutes someone came by to change the pillowcase. We left the property for dinner and when we returned to our room, there was a voice mail from the asst. mgr. of housekeeping. I called back and she profusely apologized and asked if we were inconvenienced. I said "no harm, no foul". When I looked in the washroom, she had left a handwriiten note of apology along with a basket of bath salts and body lotions. This is the Four Seasons!
It should be said that it's not cheap, that they did make a small mistake with my golf reservation, and that we found the pool area a little on the busy side. It's also a real "hotel", not a resort like their property on the Big Island. But my wife loved their spa, and it's hard to imagine a better hotel experience. Last point: Although I did not go with my kids, if you have money coming out your ears, the kids will have a great time. They have a terrific kids program, activity room, etc. And what kid wouldn't wat to be spritzed with Evian water!

**********Four Seasons equals LUXURY*******************

I have never been disappointed with The Four Seasons Hotels and the one in Maui did not disappoint!

Rooms:
Any room you reserve even the lowest grade category room is luxuriously furnished.
Beautiful double doors that lead into a large bathroom. And all bathrooms have speakers which you can listen to music
All rooms all CD & DVD players

Restaurants:

Spago~ EXCELLENT

Ferraro's Bar e Ristorante ~Very disappointed! (extremely SMALL portions and not as tasty as Spago's) But fantastic sweeping oceanview

Pacific Grill~ Better then Ferraro's

Pool:
The pool area is Beautiful with the cabanas(free) arranged so the oceanview is not compromised
There are two separate pool areas & both were disappointly small and a little dirty. Which wass shocking but the Wailea beach which is located a steps away blows you away!
FORGET about swimming in the pool! Go to the Beach! Swimming is excellent in Spring/Summer but turbulent but swimable in the winter.

BOTTOMLINE: Four Seasons is unbeatable in service and luxurious accommodations & extremely kids friendly

We stayed at the Four Seasons Maui in April, 2005. We found it absolutely terrific in almost every aspect. We would happily stay there again. There is a reason that it is almost always booked.

1. Accommodations. The Four Seasons is expensive. It is not significantly higher priced than its neighbors in Wailea, but it is not for those looking for a bargain. We booked a Garden View room, and well, it was a room with a view of a grassy area. It was not a view of the street, but of a somewhat plain grassy area. As a result, we did not spend much time on the lanai. The room itself was terrific. It was large, and the bathroom was enormous, with a separate deep tub and separate shower. The two double beds were somewhat small, but overall the room was great. We had two small kids with us, and we never felt cramped.

2. Service. The service is precisely what you read about: Outstanding. The staff was friendly and responsive. The concierges provided good advice. The valets were efficient. The beach staff friendly and helpful. They even played baseball with our son on the last day. The food and beverage staff attentive. Service is a hallmark of Four Seasons, and it is easy to see why.

3. The Extras. The Four Seasons does not nickel and dime you. The rooms are expensive. But cabanas are free, the pool is large enough (we never felt crowded), and the umbrella and beach tents are free. Sand toys are free. The Kids Camp is free and our kids (5 and 8) loved it. You can drop into the Kids Camp and need not make an appointment. Snorkeling equipment is free for an hour. Ice water is delivered to you at the beach. Bottled water is given to you when you leave for an expedition. We went on a picnic and were provided with an ice chest, waters, and a blanket. We asked for and received, within twenty minutes, a refrigerator for our room. All complementary. There is no resort free. You can use the spa locker room which is excellent. We even got a late check out.

4. The Food. The food was great, but very expensive. This was apparently endemic to Hawaii in general and Maui in particular. Entrees at restaurants are $35 to $40 each, and it can add up.

Conclusion. This was a spectacular hotel. The beach, though small, is great and swimable. The service is great. The facilities are great. Everything was wonderful. If you are not interested in a wild "scene", and seek a more understated and yet elegant hotel, the Four Seasons is for you.

We'd like to go back next year.

My husband and I stayed at the Four Seasons in Wailea for 3 nights in March 2005 and we've already rebooked for 2006. We travel alot (this was our 3rd trip to Maui) and have stayed at some pretty nice places throughout the world and this resort is one of the nicest we have every stayed at. The staff are incredibly helpful and polite. The rooms are gorgeous with nice large balconies, and the bathrooms are amazing. We had prime ocean view which was very, very nice. The pool is not as large as some of the other resorts but very classy. Even though we were there in March break there were very few children which pleased my husband and I. The Fairmont and the Grand Wailea seemed to have tons of kids. We had dinner and lunch at Ferraros. We loved the food and atmosphere of this restaurant. We even used the gym which we do not usually do while on vacation. But the gym is open air with a nice view, so we though "why not". There's also a path which runs along the ocean in front of the hotels which is very scenic. We walked this a number of times. Many people jog it in the early mornings. The one thing that we were disappointed about had nothing to do with the Four Seasons but more with Wailea itself. We found that, in comparison to Kanaapali, there are very few restaurants within walking distance. However we did find the weather to be better in Wailea than Kanaapali. Next year when we go back, we will be staying a few nights in Wailea (just to stay at the Four Seasons) and a few nights in Kanaapali (for the variety of restaurants). We've also already booked the Four Seasons on the Big Island since everyone seems to give it outstanding reviews as well.

We stayed here one night on our way back from Kauai (previously on our trip we had stayed at the Kaanapali Alii and the Kauai Marriott). Staying here was the best thing about our vacation. We had a one bedroom garden view suite. We loved the room. We were traveling with our two sons (12 & 17). There was a sleeper sofa and we used a rollaway bed (no charge). The two full baths in the suite made it great for a family of four to get ready.

We loved the service and free cabanas at the beach and pool. We were constantly surprised with the included snacks and amenities with which we were provided. The weather was cool the two days we were at the Four Seasons, but our sons loved the game room and spent several hours there. The beach was nice, however, our sons liked Kaanapali better because the boogie boarding was better (i.e., bigger waves).

We had a late flight out and although late checkout was not available for our room, we used the Spa facilities to shower and change at the end of the day. We loved the men's facilities (everything you needed was provided) although mom thought the female facilities were too dark to do her hair and makeup.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Four Seasons. Everything about the hotel was top-notch and allowed us to just relax and enjoy ourselves. We loved it so much we will probably plan on taking our next vacation at a destination where there is a Four Seasons.
