“Great Visit to Four Seasons”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2014

I have seen some reviews that state the hotel is a bit dated and needs to modernize some areas. However, we felt that the hotel was very elegant, inviting and comfortable. I don't think they need to change anything. We spent a little extra to stay on the club level because it was our honeymoon. The staff was awesome. They were extremely friendly and genuine. We did not pre-book any activities and they helped us book everything from helicopter tours to surfing lessons on the day of which was very helpful and let my wife and I go through the trip without a stringent agenda. The serenity pool chairs get booked up pretty early so if you want to sit at the adult pool, you need to get up and get after it before 10 am. Little secret - Ferraros Italian restaurant has half price bottles on ALL wine after 8 pm and offers a very romantic setting for dinner on the beach with waves crashing 20 yards away - it was pretty cool. The hotel has a free shuttle service within Wailea.

My husband and I just returned from a week-long vacation at the Four Seasons Maui and are still talking about how wonderful the stay was. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome and exhibited a real interest and concern that we enjoy ourselves. When we arrived, we were greeted immediately with cool towels, lemonade, and leis. Once we made our way to the front desk, we were personally greeted by the hotel manager thanking us for spending our honeymoon at the Four Seasons and sharing his thoughts on the best times to enjoy the beaches, pool, and provided snorkeling tips. The front desk agent, Christie, was equally enthusiastic about our arrival and suggested things for us to do until our room became available. We did not rent a car during our week-long stay in Maui because we wanted to relax and primarily stay on property. A car is not needed every day anyway because the hotel offers complimentary car service to anywhere in Wailea. We took advantage of this immediately and headed to the Shops at Wailea for lunch. When the hotel texted us that our room was ready, we called the hotel and they picked us up. On the way back to the hotel, my husband realized that his prescription sunglasses were missing. We mentioned this to Christie when we picked up our room keys. She immediately contacted the valets to search the SUVs we had ridden in to and from the Shops. Additionally, she contacted security at the Shops personally to see if any sunglasses had been dropped off in lost and found. Within five minutes of being in our room, the security at the Shops called to say they found them. The Four Seasons driver happily took my husband back to the Shops and waited while he retrieved his sunglasses. Now that's customer service! That is just one example of how staff goes out of their way to make sure you enjoy your time at the Four Seasons. Smiles aka Scott Wilson is the Photo Ambassador who spends his days taking pictures of guests in the best locations all over the hotel. He took a wonderful picture of us on our last night there and was thrilled to learn we were there on our honeymoon. Later that evening, he sent us a personal email again congratulating us and offering to take more pictures if needed. The property itself is extraordinary in terms of cleanliness, location, and amenities. We stayed in a garden view room (Room 383) that offered a garden level lanai open to an impressive sculpture garden. It was very peaceful and quiet. The room itself was very generous in size with a king sized bed, small sofa and desk. The bathroom was enormous with a five-foot dressing table and equally sized double vanity. It had a huge soaker tub, stand alone shower and separate water closet. We spent most of our days at the adults-only serenity pool and loved it. As some reviewers have noted, people will get up early to be the first in line and grab what some may consider "prime seats." Over the week we were there, we sat in several different locations and they all had great access to the two pools, two hot tubs, and swim-up bar. In point of fact, there really are no bad seats and most come with great shade options. The main pool had a huge number of open air cabanas and umbrellas and was not overrun with children giving a great option if the Serenity pool became too crowded. The staff at the Serenity pool was outstanding. Some of the offerings included: complimentary sun screen in three SPFs, iced water, Evian face spritzes, frozen grapes, mini muffins, fresh fruit, and popsicles. We ate lunch mainly at the pool and the offerings were varied and delicious. Some reviewers have complained that the hotel does not provide economic viable options for breakfast, but that was not our experience. You can partake of the expansive (and expensive) breakfast buffet at Duo's, but you can also pick up gratis coffee outside Duo's and the game room and grab a muffin, bagel, or toast in Duo's at an ala carte price. Fresh fruit, bagels, muffins, and coffee are also available at Snorkels down near the beach entrance. Finally, room service offers "quick bites" for breakfast and lunch that are economical. The food offerings in terms of restaurants at the hotel was fabulous. We at Ferraro's twice: once for a sunset dinner and a second time at the bar for a more casual dinner (at night the bar offers pizzas on its menu). The service and food quality were great. We also took advantage of the Duo's amazing breakfast buffet. The offerings were expansive and delicious, but I will note that if you are not a bird person this may not be the place for you. Unlike every other place in the hotel, the bird aggressiveness was more pronounced at the breakfast buffet. The restaurant does its best to mitigate it, but they were still somewhat of a nuisance. I would be remiss if I did not also mention the housekeeping staff. They provided fresh water daily and kept the room spotless. We needed extra pillows and they arrived quickly followed by a follow-up call to make sure we were pleased with the pillows. Everyone from the bellboys to the housekeeping staff to the Serenity pool attendants and front desk staff went out of their way to make sure we had the best experience possible and we definitely did. We cannot wait to come back and are definitely suffering from the Hawaii blues after coming home. This hotel is worth every single penny!! Thank you Four Seasons for the best honeymoon we could have hoped for!

We were there on our honeymoon and it was the small things that really set it apart. Every day, there was water in our fridge and at night by our bed. We would return from the beach or other outings so pleased by the small touches that housekeeping did, like arrange our lei's in the shape of a heart, clean our sunglasses and put them on a Four Seasons cleaning cloth, folding our clothes (yes, I said folding our clothes). They have a beach bag in the closet to use during your stay, when you leave the resort you are offered towels and water everytime. And, even better if you decide to get up at 2 AM (which you should) to see the sunrise at haleakala they will send you off with coffee, pastries and WARM blankets...you can't underestimate how important these blankets are. I was sold on our experience at that moment watching others freeze on top of the mountain (We were still freezing but we were in much better shape than the others). The biggest drawbacks are that you don't get the wonderful Four Seasons "beach service" like at other Four Seasons. You get full service at pool, but because Hawaii has public beaches, they don't serve out there. (we later went to Kauai and the St. Regis has somehow figured out a way around this rule.) Another drawback is that you don't feel like you are in "Hawaii" other than a few aloha's and mahalo's I rarely heard Hawaiian music, I didn't feel the culture of Hawaii like we did when we got to Kauai. If you can only afford this as a once in a life time experience, do it. It's so worth being pampered (oh, and the spa, I can't forget the spa) - while really high priced, we had an amazing couples massage in a hut near the ocean at sunset. Wow. Meals are, as you would expect really overpriced. We did the breakfast included in the room and every day would get a bill that wasn't charged to our room but included the street price of $90. I'm sorry no one can eat $90 of breakfast...They seem to have a good setup for kids, however we were there early May so not many there. Since we were on our honeymoon that was nice, but obviously would be great for family too. OMG, I almost forgot the serenity pool, DON'T miss it, get there early. We only went there last day and were so sad we missed it. Had the best server there, she was AWESOME! and you can get spa treatments up there as well. Beach is clean and fun to swim and play in, we also saw 3 sea turtles there around the rocks on the left side of the beach (if you are looking at the ocean.)

Room Tip: We had a garden suite (we were 'upgraded' from Mountainside due to our honeymoon, it was so...

Everything about this place was amazing except that the gardens by the pool smells like cat pee. The grounds were incredible, the service exceptional. The adult only pool was kind of small and there were no seats available when we went. The room was amazing. The little touches like the slippers, and the cucumber, ginger mint water upon arrival made the difference. A level up from other hotels!

I have stayed at the ritz. & Stayed here - Ritz is slightly less and superior.

For the money the Ritz was superior. For this type of price your looking for near perfection
The coffee was mediocre at best (you expect good coffee in Hawaii) - They tore my shirt in laundromat (grant it they did say they would replace ) but actually sent it back up to room with holes in front

Amazing hotel in Maui if you don't mind money being no object! Masseur Cort in the spa gave the best deep tissue massage I ever had! Try the blueberry mojito at Ferraro's. Also ate at Duo's restaurant and would highly recommend it.

I last stayed at this hotel in 1993 and I can't believe it has been kept in perfect condition this long. We stayed in room 814 on the top club level floor with an ocean view. Public areas are grand, beautiful, and functional. Checkin at club level was effortless and a selection of drinks and snacks was available all the time. Many reviews talk about staying at this hotel during very busy holiday weeks and fighting for chairs at the pool. Well we specifically stayed after the spring break to avoid all of that and we never had a lack of a chair in fact one day we had both serenity chairs, and a beach setup and we bounced back and forth. Our dinner at sunset at spago was amazing, the view was all-time and the food great. Many resorts in the state of Hawaii held back spending on upkeep of their properties and room product during the bad economy; I really debated if this hotel would be as great as I remembered it so many years ago and need I worry it was AWSOME! Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to get to the 8th floor with the high ceilings my regular room felt like a suite. A++ vacation spot, A++ Staff in every department from housekeeping to valet parking.

Room Tip: Club level ocean view/front
