“Expansive and nasty”
Reviewed June 16, 2010

The foods were expensive, salty and nasty.
The service was good, the place was not bad.
Over all, we will not come back or recommended this restaurant, please go to "Star Noodle" instead. The foods were inexpensive, delicious, the service was excellent, the decor was contemporary.

“Great service but food a disappointment”

Overrated food -- ribs fat and dry, meatloaf disappointing -- but a premium price.

“An overrated and overpriced place that is long on promises and short on followthrough.”
Reviewed April 5, 2010

We're visiting Maui for the second time on vacation, and really wanted to find a great place to eat near Kihei for future trips. After doing some research, Bev Gannon's name kept on popping up, so we decided to give Joe's a try. After all, the creator of the restaurant is a James Beard award winner, and the ads for the restaurant claim that it offers 5-star food. Boy, were we in for a disappointment.

Everything about this place screams lousy chain restaurant. The atmosphere reminds me of a Chili's or an Outback Steakhouse on the mainland, with tables packed with noisy families. The service was inattentive and unhelpful, and on top of that, the food was just plain mediocre.

I started with the Ahi Carpaccio, which was the best thing I had on the evening, and it was average at best, with strange flavor combinations. The fish was fresh, at least. We also ordered the "world famous" crab dip, which was just a joke. It tasted of fake crab, and had a very uniform blended texture, like a "krab-stick" milkshake. Gross.

For our entrees, I had the meatloaf, which came recommended by the waiter, and my wife had the pumpkin seed crusted mahi. My meatloaf was the epitome of everything that is wrong with this overrated restaurant. The meatloaf was tasteless, and covered in BBQ sauce out of a bottle, with bland mashed potatoes and some sad looking tasteless carrots. Seriously, it looked like (and tasted like) the food you get at trade shows and "awards banquets" off the Sysco truck. Laughable at $28! My wife's fish was marginally better, but again, at $34, and with the buildup that the chef gives herself, I expected *much* more.

Save your money, this place is a total ripoff, and will only impress you if you know nothing about good food. If you think Outback Steakhouse is a great place to dine out with the family, the atmosphere and food might win you over.

AVOID!

“My favorite restaurant!”
Reviewed April 2, 2010

I have been dining at Joes for many years and have never had a bad experience. The atmosphere is enviting, not stuffy, and always comfortable. The food is fantastic and always consistant. I recommend Joes to everyone if they want to dine at a place with a great and friendly staff, wonderful food and if they want to experience an all around great dining experience!
