“What a Gem! Super Snorkeling and Lovely Beach.”
Reviewed March 26, 2012

What a gem! We saw quite a lot of marine life when snorkeling, and found the easy beach access (to the water) to be a huge plus. The only downside was the parking (or lack thereof). The tiny 'temporary' parking lot at the top of the hill is actually dangerous. Ensure you go SLOWLY over the 'hump' into the lot as the steep grade may mean scraping the underside of your vehicle (learned that the hard way). Once you get into the lot, it is very hard to manoeuver. We parked at The Shops at Wailea and walked over.

Would recommend getting there fairly early as the wind kicks up in the afternoon and causes an issue with visibility. Cannot wait to go back!

This is a wonderful first snorkel location for people. Easy parking, easy entry into the water. Fish very close. Many different kinds. This is a good location for families.

“Great Snorkel Beach”
Reviewed March 17, 2012

One of the most popular beaches for SCUBA diving and snorkeling is Ulua Beach. On the right side of the bay is a sheer drop off that is a unique setting for a variety of fish and coral formations. It's usually very calm with an easy entry and exit. Although, at this time, there is one drawback. There is construction in the parking lot area so the parking lot is far from the beach.

“Fantastic Snorkeling for Kids”
Reviewed March 4, 2012

Ulua Beach has fantastic snorkeling for kids and is a great place to teach children how to snorkel. The northern end of the beach has a very good reef with many fish. This area has a shallow sandy bottom that meets right up with the rocks. I taught my six year old son to snorkel at this spot. I was able to stand on the sand bottom, in about 4-5 feet of water, and hold onto him while he floated by the rocks. He saw many fish this way and I didn't disturb any coral as I was standing only on sand. As with most of the beaches in the area the best time to snorkel is in the morning. Usually by lunch time it's too rough to snorkel.
