Ho'olei at Grand Wailea
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 15, 2012

You may read my glowing review of this hotel. I forgot to mention that we have rented two different units at ho"olei and the internet speed is so poor and intermittent (F- result on Speedtest.net) that I have ended up using a internet hot spot from Clear. I have spoken to the front desk who tell me that Ho'olei is on the grand wailea network and being the furthest from the hotel we get the dregs. Spent an hour or two on the phone last night, bypassing router, etc. Of course, this is Oceanic Time Warner which doesn't help.
So, off to Costco to buy a Verizon hot spot this time! Brutal.
The rooms and furniture are also starting to look tired and need TLC. Having said that the property is beautiful and luxurious. But they are going to need some reinvestment soon.

Room Tip: Lower on the hill= close to pool, better for kids, possibly more road noise higher on hill= quieter...

Our recent stay at Grand Wailea had us wind up unexpectedly at their villas across the street, Ho'Olei. This was the perfect place for us to stay. The villa was enormous, tastefully decorated, and appointed with the best possible amenities one could hope for. The gourmet kitchen and lanai made the upper level exceptional for us, as we enjoy cooking and took advantage of the opportunity. The fact that the villas are across the street from the resort did not hinder our experience in the slightest. We had easier access to our car because of not needing to valet, and anytime we wanted to head over to the resort, a shuttle was quickly made available to drive us over.

What was even more impressive than the Villa, was the service we received in every part of our experience. The sincere desire to please, and even exceed our expectations was obvious in everything we experienced at both Ho'Olei and Grand Wailea. When I return to Maui, Grand Wailea will be first on my list of places to stay.

Just recently returned from another fabulous trip the the Grand Wailea. The staff is second to none. In my opinion, there is no finer beach anywhere. If you have an opportunity to visit the Grand Wailea, don't miss the opportunity. You will love every minute you are there.

We are a family of 4 (2 teenagers) and Traveling with another family of 4 also with 2 teenagers, we had originally booked 2 rooms at the Grand Waelea , and got offered an upgrade to Ho'olei Villas, at first we were not convinced due to the fact we were trading 2 rooms for 1 villa (8 guests re-united in one villa) we were also not to keen on the fact that we were not on the beach and that we had to call for a ride whenever we had to go across to the Grand Wallea , for there pool and all there facilities restaurants , watersides , beach... But after weighing the pro's and the cons we decide to go for the HO'olei. WOW the greatest call we ever did , this place was simply UNBELIEVABLE !! We had 3 bedrooms on a 2 story building , 2 rooms had king size beds and the other had 2 double beds , every room had there washroom (perfect for 8), we had the most amazing view of the beach from our enormous lanai, topnotch kitchen ,furniture, and fire grill ,at first we said we would not cook and simply go down to the Grand Wailea. But believe me it was worth picking up some groceries great wine and simply eat on our Lanai. The best sunset I've ever seen !! As per travel arrangements to get from and to Grand Wailea a simple phone call from anywhere on either complex and they are within minutes, you can also walk across in about 5-to 10 minutes , We also used the Ho'olei pool facilities, great waterfall pool , much more tranquil than the Grand Wailea pool facilities , THIS WAS THE BEST PLACE I'VE EVER STAYED. You won't regret it.

Room Tip: The higher up the villa is , the better it is

We stayed in villa 81-6 in August with our two young children after having a rather disastrous stay at another supposed "luxury" condo in the area. The villa was enormous, tastefully decorated in true "island" style decor, clean and supplied with everything you could ever ask for. Everything down to the pillows and flatware was first-rate and luxurious.
We booked the condo through the Grand Wailea rather than through the owner, so we had access to the GW's pools. However, we only spent one day at them. They are a little too Las Vegas for my liking; very noisy and crowded. The pool at the Ho'olei is very, very nice and welcoming to children, while being nice for adults. A waterfall and various other features meant there was ample activities for the kids in the pool, but the design felt as if you were in a quiet secluded oasis. Free iced tea and a communal fridge near the pool means you can bring down food and beverages without having to return to your room.
The only drawback for the Ho'olei is that it is not on the beach. You can walk down or take a shuttle (handy when carting all your beach gear), but there is something about hearing the water at night that makes Hawaii really feel like Hawaii. Still, the developers have made the best out of the situation and the villas are something to be seen. Perfect for families.

Room Tip: Villas lower down are better for pool access, while the villas higher up have better views.

This is our favorite place in Maui by far. The place has everything you'd ever need and is just beautiful. The pool is convenient and family and friend friendly and close to everything including the best beaches. The staff is always tremendous and made us feel so great during all of our stays. Can't say enough about our stay here and we were so glad to have stayed here!

You know when it just feels RIGHT!! This place (Hoolei at Grand Wailea) is IT!!! My family and friends stayed there for the jazz festival this last weekend and absolutley loved it. There is Soooo much space and the views were incredible. We cancelled our dinner plans to eat out and stayed in to cook 'family style' while watching a sunset that could have made us all weep! (we are not weepers)...but you get the picture...Just beautiful! We all had our own bedroom with en-suite bathroom, so no awkward moments running into our friends in the hallway in our PJ's. The service was outstanding, unpretentious, but so caring and genuine. The check-in was flawless, the pools at Ho'olei were terrific (and of course the Grand Wailea too) and we pretended to live the life of the rich and famous (we're not either), but it sure felt like it. Our friends who have travelled the world over are already planning a return trip, this place is just too good to miss out on. Thanks to the entire team at Ho'olei for creating a precious life long memory!

Room Tip: Book Ocean and Deluxe ocean if you want a great view!
