Be VERY Careful which unit you choose -- we had the unfortunate experience of staying in a unit close to the road; depite the owner telling us that noise was not a problem, noise was a major problem for us in the unit we stayed in... it ruined our vacation.

Other than that, it is a very nice property -- the units are a fine place to stay. In fact, we plan on going back, just not to a unit close to the road. Check out this site for a map or ask for a map before you book - (--)

Wailea Alanui is a major road, 2 lanes in each direction... during our stay we we heard the constant roar of trucks, motorcycles and cars.

You have been warned.

We recently stayed at the Elua Village in Wailea, Maui in a condo that I found by chance via the Elua Village website. (see [------]) Elua Village is beautifully landscaped, kept clean, has a great beach and a relaxing pool with some shade; it is gated with friendly, helpful staff. Our condo, #2202 had a lovely ocean view, although was a bit of a walk to the beach through the lovely grounds of the condo. The paved beach path made it easy to walk to other resorts nearby and the shopping center. A scuba company uses the beach for introductory and night dives so you know the snorkeling is good. Our large unit had two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furniture. The lanai was so wonderful with a great view and surrounding Hawaiian trees, it was hard to leave the condo for the attractions of Maui! The price was the best we found for a condo on the beach through extensive searching. The owners were wonderful to work with.

After staying at the Four Seasons in Wailea on our last trip to Maui, we were skeptical about a condo, but we needed the space and amenities now that we have two kids under the age of 3. I was adamant that we find a condo in Wailea-- I'm not crazy about any of the other areas, especially Kanapali (totally overdeveloped and cheesy, IMO). We ended up at the Wailea Elua and it was great. We got pretty much the cheapest level two bedroom, probably gardenview or something, but we got there and had a full ocean view. We were right next to the smaller pool, and about a two minute walk to the beach (across grass and a path, not a street or parking lot). The beach is gorgeous, and the walking path out front goes to the resorts in Wailea, like the Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, etc. The whole place was completely empty while we were there-- it was a dead week in Maui generally. We barely saw anyone at the pool, and no one hassled us about the kids, despite the reviews I had read questioning whether the Elua was kid-friendly. They arranged for full size cribs and a highchair to be delivered and set up before we got there, and the full kitchen and washer and dryer in the unit was a necessity. We had an awesome balcony that wrapped around the whole unit, with a big BBQ and tons of patio furniture. Overall, it was probably as good as we could do in Maui with two toddlers-- I would rather be at a resort because I just like the feel of it, but this was a decent substitute. One tip-- buy your groceries at Safeway, not Foodland in Kihei. We had to throw out half the stuff we bought there because it was rotted, opened, or otherwise nasty once we got home.

We booked a two bedroom condo through Wailea Vacation Rentals. An excellent source for Elua Village condos, as you are able to view photos of individual units and confirm exactly what you are getting in advance-important when booking a condo. Unit was beautifully decorated, spacious, fully-equipped and immaculate. We stopped at the Safeway on the way in for breakfast items, drinks, etc. The property is beautifully landscaped and maintained. Gated security staff was friendly and helpful about giving directions to restaurants, etc. Short walk to a lovely beach, and the beach path that connects all of the resorts makes for a nice morning or evening walk. Staying at a condo in Wailea is a great option. We appreciated not dealing with the hoards of people jockeying for lounge chairs, noisy guestrooms, waiting in line and being charged for everything. Yet, we could pick and choose going to lunch where we wanted or having a drink at a resort if we chose to do so. We had very good luck with restaurants. Everything is expensive, the trick is actually getting a great meal for your money.

We stayed here to 10 nights in a 1 bedroom condo. Very nice place..our second time here. Great beaches and near everything you need.

Only complaint is that the gardners use very noisy gas powered tools EVERYDAY. The grounds are beautiful..but the peace is broken by the loud noises. Nearby nice hotels seems to use hand tools for hedge trimming, etc.
