“Elua #2104”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Stayed in unit 2104 last week during a stay in Wailea. This 2br/2bath unit is newly remodeled has everything you'll need for your stay. While the location of the unit is further back from the beach, it is really a quick walk and still has beautiful views of the water. All of the appliances were brand new and the unit also has a large gas grill. The unit also has two coolers and four new beach chairs. We rented through Destination Resorts and had a really terrific experience.

You will not be disappointed with this unit.

Our family trip to maui was fantastic! Elua 101 was a great spot. but is in need of some reno's. the kitchen cupboards is almost falling off the hinges and the carpet is dirty and starting to ripple. The pots in the kitchen are very used and a health hazard! The owners of the condo are great to deal with and renting the condo was very easy!!! But alittle TLC to the condo is needed! The Grounds and pools and peacefulness of Elua will make us return! The Construction next door was awful! we couldn't sit outside on the lanai to enjoy the fabulous view due to the noise.. I think that this should have been addressed to us when a final payment was made to the owners! not 2 weeks before leaving. The construction should be done July 2013. I recommend the Elua it's a great spot for families!

We recently stayed in #1604, a 2 bd 2 shower beachfront upper floor condo with renovated kitchen and loved the view of the "point". The kitchen was well equipped with good dishes, flatware, glasses, utensils etc. We spoke to Destination Resorts about one scratched and slightly warped frying pan and a new replacement arrived immediately. Although the nearby restaurants prepare superb breakfasts I wanted to cook up some pancakes using a macadamia nut mix from the ABC Store. Next visit I'll just eat the fancy pancakes out because the mix was not even close. This unit is close to the older small pool which surprisingly we liked better than the larger new pool by the beach. The smaller pool is warm and very relaxing, and not crowded. The new pool had screaming children doing cannonballs during the 4 to 6 PM "quiet time". If you bring children they will have more fun when the other kids are there, but if you prefer serenity, try using the beach pool early in the morning. The north side of the beach has fewer and smaller waves than the south end, so it is popular with snorklers and divers. The south end was used by boogie boarders and a rare surfer. The covered beach chairs on the point are gated with a security code, and it's a great place to read a book or look for whales. The grounds are very well maintained with an abundance of flowers and tropical plants. The condo is a 1 minute drive to the Shops at Wailea, which was also fun to explore. We were crazy about the condo we got, and did not hear any noise from the Andaz hotel construction or the street. The sunsets are beautiful. My advice is STAY HERE if you can.

Aloha...I really appreciate your detailed and in depth review of Wailea Elua Village. It is a wonderful property with a lot to offer. I am sorry that your pancakes did not come out as well as you would have liked. On your next visit may I suggest Charlie's in Pa'ia as a place to get great pancakes.

We enjoyed this 2BR 2BA condo in March 2013. It is the upper unit located closest to the gate (Just to the South).

Pros:
Wonderful beach, nice pools, plenty of seating, including at "the point" just north of the beach. Easy walk to shopping, resorts and restaurants. Easy drive to Kihei for groceries, restaurants, and surfing. Lovely view from #406 terrace of the ocean and sunsets.

Cons:
Noise. Earplugs are a must to block out the traffic from the road, noise from occasional neighbor parties, and the 6AM squawking birds. With plugs, all is well.
Maintenance: #406 isn't too well maintained. Everything is clean, but the toilets each had their challenges, the shower valve needs replacing and both heads are pretty bad. Broken drawers in the bedroom. The fridge water and ice dispenser doesn't work (the service technician was nice, but said it needs a new fridge, not a repair). All ceiling fans were noisy, and the service technician fixed them. The sliding screen door is broken.
The kitchen is minimally equipped. Old and mismatched pots and pans, worn dishes, cracked glasses. A couple hundred spent at Costco would go a long way. Not even a match to light the candle. The kitchen lacked *any* basics (salt, pepper, sugar, flour, cooking oil, vinegar, seasonings...) The knives were junk. The TVs were of the quality that people would be replacing 20 years ago. Basically, this unit feels like the owners sent their worn-out junk, and don't spend anything to keep the place up. That fine for your own condo, but for a rental, they should invest a little something in maintenance and equipment.

I would stay in this unit again (but look for others first), and ask in advance about all these things. I'd also bring a decent kitchen knife, and plan to stock the kitchen with all the basics.

We have stayed at Wailea Elua Village twice. In March 2013 we stayed in unit 2010. The view from the patio is wonderful and the proximity to the beach walk, Elua Beach, and pool is very good. However, I would say that for the price being charged, there are definitely some simple upgrades that are well overdue. For example, there isn't a knife in that kitchen that is close to sharp (try working on Maui pineapples without a decent knife!); coffee maker doesn't make hot coffee; paint is peeling in multiple places, carpets are almost scary, beach chairs are rusted, and there isn't a bucket or shovel to be found for families. The overall decor looks like a 70s garage sale exploded in here. Very outdated and random everything. Some simple purchases and maintenance work would make this place a gem. It sort of feels like the owner has lost touch with what modern travellers and families would expect and is banking on the superb location to keep the renters coming. And while the location is absolutely fantastic, a few investments directed at making visitors feel not taken for granted would be in order.

Room Tip: This complex is fantastic for families. There is a huge range at Elua Village so make sure you check...

We have rented one of these condos for a week every February for the past 15 years so obviously we have been extremely satisfied overall.

Wailea Elua Village is a verdant oasis of peace and tranquility surrounded by huge crowded noisy 4 star hotels. The units are strategically positioned for maximum privacy and are surrounded by perfectly manicured lawns on rolling acres punctuated by vibrant bougainvillea, flowering Hibiscus and ginger.

We have always booked a unit through Destination Resorts and their services, including Housekeeping, has always been beyond reproach. However, it is important to know that each of these units have a different owner so don't expect uniformity as it relates to decor or appointments.

After years of staying at different units in the 1100 and 1300 buildings we have decided that our favorites are 1301 and 1302. Any of the units in the 1300 blocks are the closest to the water as you can get in a one bedroom. 1302 is on the top floor and 1301 is directly below. We have no experience with the units closer to the road.

1302 looks out on the reef on Ulua Beach and does not get direct sunlight which suited us fine.
When we wanted sun we just grabbed our towels and walked right out to the water. Most of the condos have beach chairs and other goodies to use but some are better equipped than others.

The reef is kind of protected from the surf and easy to snorkel and there are lots of fish and turtles. The size of the waves on the beach of course varies depending on the weather but its usually pretty easy to swim. We are not pool people but it looks very nice.

There is a gym near the pool and many people run on the 1+ mile path in front of the condos that runs from Ulua Beach south toward Makena Beach; it ends at the Fairmont Kea Lani, home of Nicks Fishmarket, one of our favorite restaurants.

They perform most of the grounds keeping including mowing on Wednesday mornings so if possible time your visit around that; its very noisy. We like to arrive Wednesday afternoon and leave on a Tuesday.

Probably not the best place to stay for kids. Most of the people are older and don't appreciate much noise - especially at night. Any of the hotels would probably have more to do and be more fun for kids.

Room Tip: All units are pretty quiet but choose one on the second floor if noise-level is a priority.

Stayed at 208, which is at the upper half of the estate, closer to the road.

Interior:

The unit was recently renovated (according to Destinations Hawaii), so it was very clean and generally comfortable. Kitchen was fully equipped with plates, cutlery, knifes, BBQ utensils, cups, glasses, blender, toaster, pots and pans..etc. Basically all that a family needs for a stay.

I wasn't sure about the deep green carpet..but to each his own. Chairs at the dining table would give your muscles a workout, they were too heavy. Small problem but it was fine.

Washer machine was a tad small but detergent provided (meant I brought my detergent for nothing) with a dryer.

Bathrooms had lots of towels, and housekeeping popped by regularly to replace them.

Exterior:

There was noise from the construction side nearby but it wasn't discernible. Besides, we were out the whole day, either to Haleakala or the beach so it didn't mattered. The traffic from the road was a little more discernible but then again at 8am we really ought to be out of bed and to the beach!

Security was good, overall we felt safe.

Minor point:

The listing of services for the reception said I could print boarding passes at the Mac there plus other documents for a fee. Turns out they would not allow printing of any sort other than boarding passes. Bummer as I ended up late for one of my activities, having to search for alternate means.

Room Tip: Odd numbers are lower units, even are upper. Do ask for an accessible unit as not every ground floor...

Aloha..I would like to thank you for your detailed description of your accomodations at Wailea Elua Village. It is a good alternative to staying at one of the large resorts as it offers all the comforts of home in the same tropical setting. Please accept my apologies for the misunderstanding in printing your documents, but you will be happy to know that we have changed our policy.
