Honeymoon at the Andaz

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 24, 2019via mobile
Where to start?! My husband and I went to the Andaz Maui for a “minimoon” and it was anything but minimal. Everything at this hotel was absolutely dreamlike. When you walk in, you have a top-level view of the scenery that is an instant jaw-dropper.

We didn’t leave Wailea the first two days because there simply wasn’t any reason to leave.

My 3 favorite things:
The Bitters & Bites at Ka’Ana Kitchen was the perfect way to kickoff our stay. Archer made our experience so much fun with perfectly balanced tequila cocktails and good conversation.

The activities crew was amazing! They took us out for outrigger canoeing and paddle boarding. The activities are complimentary and I saw so many turtles (and a tiger shark too!).

The cascading pools were incredible and there is a serenity pool area, too. Try the Andaz take on the Mai Tai poolside and happy hour at Bumbye.

And of course, the service was simply phenomenal! The team members at Andaz are so friendly and always eager to help whether it was picking us up in the black car or setting up our pool chairs - they always made us feel welcome and like true guests.

We spent 5 nights at the Andaz. Overall a good experience with a few hiccups. The staff is very helpful and friendly, grounds and pools are beautiful. Layout of the bathroom is tight and minimal places to put stuff. The narrow area in front of the sink is the path to get to the shower and separate toilet room. The shower design is a bit wonky. No shower door, just a curtain, and the shower head aims right toward the opening so easy to flood out the bathroom. We had a problem with a defective valve on the shower, causing the temp to wildly fluctuate, but they repaired it and gave us some compensation off the room price. Breakfast buffet is very pricey, but amazing selection including lots of fresh fruits. We signed up for the hotel's luau. The shared dishes are brought to the tables of 8, which was much nicer than dealing with a long buffet line. Each serving dish had a generous portion. Performance includes a fire dancer which is supposedly not done at all the luau's in the area. We got in line for seating about 30 minutes prior to the luau start time and got great seats. We were on the 6th floor, so had a full view of the ocean from our balcony. From the room the view was a bit more limited, but still nice. Took advantage of the hula and ukelele lessons, which are included in the resort fee. There is also a nice paved walking path (a couple miles long) on the beach side of the hotel that we used every day.

Our stay at the Andaz was fantastic. The hotel lobby, pools, restaurants, view are all spectacular. It is a short walk to the beach where we were provided with lounge chairs, umbrellas, and towels. The swimming a snorkeling were wonderful. The hotel provides cold, filtered water coolers and water bottles so you can be sure to keep hydrated. The staff and service is top notch.

My wife and I stayed here for four nights in October.

Pro's

+Great hotel. We loved virtually everything about this place. The rooms were modern and cool. The Andaz brand seems to be geared toward people in their 30's-40's.

+Food. We ate pool side twice and had amazing food. Typically pool food is "blah" at best. This was different.

+Snorkel right off their beach. We swam with sea turtles on one of our snorkeling adventures. Literally 100 yards off the beach.

+Service was top notch.

Con's:

-I'm nitpicking but the only thing I would change is to give people a self-parking option. Having to valet your car every time you want to go in and out stinks and they charge you a pretty penny for that service.

Also...Pay for a pool/ocean view. The "resort view" is of trees that overlook the parking lot. And you can hear the parking lot/any work that is being done outside.

I am a hotel snob and I highly recommend the Andaz.

Ridiculous breakfast cost. Outrageous market cafe costs. Just be prepared to spend one months salary to eat and buy basic necessities like morning coffee. These guys have a great property but they rake in the cash by charging you $49 for buffet breakfast with no a la carte option any more. That's $70 CDN before tax and tip fo Canadian reviewers. I have no problem spending money on vacation, but after 8 nights I had a bill for $2,000 USD for food! Insane.

Don't stay here if you pick a resort view room. Mine was terrible - noise from parking lot view occurred at all hours. Room incredibly funky and lighting awful. Not at all suitable for a couple where one rises early and one likes to sleep. The coffee machine sounded like a jet plane taking off.
