“Hope We Can Return Sometime”

Just checked out of the Andaz. Booked it based on reviews from others here, after considering the 4S and Fairmont. We absolutely made the right choice. I probably haven't experienced better service at any hotel, ever...concierge staff, housekeeping, management, valet, bartender, restaurant staff, spa, watersports, everyone seemed genuinely happy to be doing their jobs and helping us enjoy our stay. Stayed in an ocean view king (not suite), 6th floor. View was outstanding...watched sunsets and whales from the balcony. Bathrooms are oddly-laid-out, but easy enough to get used to. Pool staff set up (very comfy) lounge chairs, and bring you ice water and sunblock (spf30 only, and the gift shop only goes up from there, so if you need something lower, bring your own). Pools are very nice. Kids tend to stay in the lowest level of the 3 pools, so you can stay in an upper level if you prefer a quieter environment. There's also an adults-only pool, which although lovely, doesn't have an ocean view, and we didn't feel like we needed the quiet quite that much. Beach is great, not too busy, and there's a wonderful paved walking/running path running between the beach and resorts...allowed us to see the other resorts we'd considered, and confirmed we'd made the right choice with the Andaz...just seemed smaller and less commercial. We booked stand-up-paddle boarding lessons and the complimentary outrigger tour as we were checking in, to be sure they didn't fill up. Both experiences were great. We visited the Ka'ana (?) kitchen restaurant multiple times for breakfast, and usually ordered from the menu rather than the more expensive (but probably worth it) buffet. Had several meals from the pool bar menu, and grabbed quick snacks from the gift shop. Ordered room service one night, which was really good, and no more expensive than other on-site restaurants. Overall great experience, and we would highly recommend.

I just spent a week at the Andaz and this has got to be the best hotel experience of my life. This is a new property and it shows, so clean, luxurious with a great and helpful staff. There are a few kinks to work out here and there (like the spray nozzles in the shower were removed as they must have made a mess, but the plumbing is still evident).

The hotel space is large so you don't feel like you are tripping over someone else. The hotel has several pools and lots of pool chairs, so you don't have to run down and get a chair first thing in the AM, there is always a chair with a great view available.

We were there to get married on the beach, but once we saw this gorgeous property, we changed it up last minute and got married on property. The staff was easy to work with last minute and great.

We had our wedding night dinner with friends and family on site at Ka'ana kitchen and the food was very good and fresh. They put us in the private dining room, which was great. The only drawback is there is no A/C in that room and the room just got too warm.

The biggest drawback to this hotel is the valet parking charge of $30 per night. However, there is not a resort charge, so it evens out. Guests visiting the hotel for dinner or otherwise don't have to pay for the valet parking, so then it's even more evident that guests are getting the short end of that deal.

We walked down the beach to several other hotels in the area and that just made us feel even better about our choice to stay here. The overall vibe and clean and new feeling really made the trip fantastic. I hope the hotel stays this nice for a long time, we are looking forward to another visit.

Room Tip: The valet walks you to the concierge who checks you in (no "front desk") and they in turn...

Green Features: This hotel is a "green" hotel. Little things like real towels in bathrooms instead of paper towels are double flushing toilets help save water.

We have been to Wailea many times and stayed previously at the hotel that used to be on this property and were anxiously awaiting the Andaz. We stayed five nights and while the property and service were very good we found the hotel room somewhat small and poorly furnished for the price paid. The pool areas and beach are marvelous. The service at the pool was very good. Restaurants were pricey but excellent food. I booked an ocean view room and indeed had a nice view although a bit distant. The room was clean and decorated with a scandanavian style (think Ikea but a bit nicer) however there was not a dressor and very little room to maneuver within the room. There is a shower only--no tub. They advertise "free snacks" and "soft drinks" which consist of two fruit/nut bars and a small bag of chips per day and a regular (not sugar free) soda and "Juice water" daily. It was nice to use the small fridge to put my own drinks in however. Each morning they have coffee and pineapple in the lobby however every day the coffee, cream, and pineapple would run out leaving everyone standing around waiting. Since they do this every day I would think they would have it down--it seemed the employees weren't sure whose responsibility it was to refill. The 30 dollar per day charge for parking doubled the cost of the car and you have to use valet. Overall this is a very nice hotel but for the price (>600 per night) it was not quite up to my expectations.

Room Tip: our room was gound level so we had a "porch " with lounge chairs that was very nice in the...

The Andaz is one of the newest hotels anywhere in Hawaii, having opened only last September 2013. I read some reviews on growing pains for the service staff, and I must say, everything has been mostly wrinkled out. It's hard to get truly good service at a resort outside of Asia, and I must say Andaz has got it almost perfect. Where was the imperfection? Maybe just the check in process. I suggest they sit you down with a cool drink, and slow down the process a little bit by chatting you up. For us, the check in was slightly confusing, as we didn't know whether we should wait by the counter or we were free to sit anywhere we liked. This is a very minor quibble, as check-in was nearly flawless (except for no upgrades for platinum). We still got a partial ocean view facing the adult pool, which was okay.

The other minor quibble is that the rooms could be a little bit bigger. The bathroom is a bit claustrophobic and the walk in shower is directly behind the bed separated by only glass and a sliding shutter door. I guess the rooms are standard size for Hawaii, but I think they could have afforded another 50-100 sqft in the units. The rooms are nicely decorated, in a modern minimalist style, so as some other reviewers have mentioned, not very Hawaiian. However, as mentioned, Hawaiian style hotels are getting really old, so I'd rather have this one. For example, we visited the Grand Waimea for dinner on this trip, and the newness of the Andaz really shines in comparison. The Grand Waimea was grand for sure, but definitely an 80s style resort that is too big for comfort.

Andaz resort grounds were great, with 5 pools, 4 of them cascading down the hill to the grass and then the beach. Andaz's beach was fine, with nice powder sand. It does tend to get windy in the area, so not too many people sun tanning directly on the beach. I liked the layout of the grassy areas as well, with palm trees. Really gives it a tropical resort feel.

The Wailea area is generally an older resort or family crowd, but the Andaz had a nice mix of all types. The families that visited were generally very respectful as well, with well-mannered kids. There were many couples of all ages, and several same-sex couples as well. Even the China visitors seemed much more respectful and quiet than most. I guess the extremely high price of the Andaz really prices out some of the bad mannered people.

Maui is the best island for good reason. In a single morning or afternoon you can go from 10,000 ft at the top of Haleakala to the beach in about 4-5 hours round trip. The snorkeling is great nearly anywhere on the west side, whether in Kaanapali or Wailea/Makena. The best spot nearby Andaz is to take the road outside the hotel all the way down to the end, about 15 minutes drive. You'll find 3-4 spots along the road where you'll see other people snorkeling, and those should be fine spots. Try to stay with other people, unless you are an expert snorkeler. I find a snorkeling noodle or belt really helps with the fish watching, as you are not as worried about the swimming portion as much. After all, the whole point of snorkeling is to enjoy the fishes and turtles that are abundant in the area. If you're not a snorkeler, you can usually find several green sea turtles near the beach at Andaz, or the public beach next door. On our first day near sunset, we counted 4 different turtles playing in the surf, with a few people watching them and snapping pictures on the beach. It's almost guaranteed.

We only ate at the resort once for lunch, by the lagoon pool. Food was great, with a chicken katsu salad imparting some local flavors. Prices are up there, but it's worth a lunch to just relax by the pool. Otherwise, we went to a restaurant about 5-8 minutes away in Kihei called Cafe O'Lei. They have a raw bar and a sushi bar, along with traditional dishes with some Hawaiian flavors imparted to it. Great prices on food and drinks. Try the short ribs, they were some of the best I've had. Tuna and Hamachi sashimi was extremely fresh. We also had a dozen oysters that were fresh and sweet as well.

Overall I enjoyed Andaz greatly. The boutique feel to the resort combined with mega-resort amenities and warm and genuine service really makes this a winner.

This was by far the best overall hotel experience I’ve ever had. From the moment we pulled up to the valet we were treated like royalty. Every staff member we encountered seemed genuinely excited to be there and to fulfill any need we had and even ones we didn’t know we had. One example is when I asked a bartender for ice water he noticed that I had a cold. In a concerned tone he asked if I’d like him to add some house made ginger syrup as a remedy (so sweet)! The staff at the spa also whipped up a special tea and Omakase blend to assist with my head cold without me having to ask. We were celebrating my birthday at Andaz. At least ¾ of the staff wished me a happy birthday and upon checking into our room I received a nice card and bottle of champagne compliments of the hotel. I was also given delicious birthday desserts on 2 separate occasions in the restaurants. Every single thing we ate at the hotel was excellent and exceeded my expectations. There’s nothing that’s not simply beautiful about the décor and natural ambiance of the hotel. The rooms are very comfortable, modern and perfectly appointed with all of the usual amenities plus some added bonuses like complimentary reusable water bottles and beach bag. I could go on and on but to sum it up I will just say that staying at the Andaz, Wailea should be on everyone’s bucket list!

Stayed for 3 nights for little get away. Service is awesome, simply awesome. Had one of the most relaxing get away in long time. Room is very clean and spacious. Infinity pool was nice to just sit and relax. Even had a complimentary photo session during our stay. Staff is top notch and very accommodating. We would stay here again soon!

We've enjoyed our stays at the Princeville and Grand Hyatt on Kauai but this is the first time we felt compelled to leave a hotel review. The hotel, pools, view, and sunset are the embodiment of a "dream" vacation; our room was comfortable, clean, quiet, and fun; and the breakfast buffet was the first we've ever experienced that we would have paid more money for. But what truly made our stay perfect was the staff. Leslie at Morimoto had us coming back for more; Holly was the ultimate in entertainment at the poolside bar; and at breakfast: Nick did give the best buffet "tour", Girlie was the sweetest server you'll ever meet, Chris bent over backward to give me a “green” drink that knocked my socks off, and chef Rhod blew our minds -- his special breakfast dishes won't ever be forgotten and he made us feel like royalty. These were a few of the very special people we met, but everyone at the hotel went the extra mile. The staff are clearly chosen with care and trained well. We don't normally spend our time hanging around a resort, but we did on this trip because everyone made us feel special. What more can you ask for of a dream vacation?
