Had a family dinner here during our vacation this month. We had been here before, and liked it, so we decided to try it again. Service was great, and I quite liked the electronic menu they recently instated for the drinks via an iPad. The presentation and controls were very easy and clean to use, not your usual menu in a restaurant.
We shared both appetizers and the mains, starters included calamari, beef carparcio, and a "Longhi" Longhi salad (really just Caesar salad without bacon). Both the carparcio and the salad were very flavourful, and the dressing didn't overpower the salad at all. The calamari had great sauces, an aioli-like mayo sauce with a salsa-like tomato sauce, and the squid was very chewy, but the batter was a little too greasy for me halfway through eating. We all had pasta dishes for main, Fettuccine Alfredo, Pesto Penne, and Clam Linguine with tomatoes, but both the alfredo and the clam linguine we found to be smothered with butter. The Fettuccine Alfredo was too rich and creamy, and I could barely finish it before dessert, and the clam linguine had too much butter seasoned in the pasta, even though my mother requested the chefs lay off the butter for the dish. My dad though, found the pesto delicious, and not as heavy compared to the others.
For dessert, we shared Longhi's famed-Tiramisu with a scoop of chocolate ice cream on the side. (Haagen Dazs I believe). As claimed and recommended by our waitress, it was a great choice. Although it was big, it was plentiful and delicious, the coffee liqueur not overpowering the chocolate-dipped fingers layer, but there was quite a lot of whipped cream.
Overall, its a great place for family occasions, especially a group dinner. The staff are very sociable and helpful, and offer great recommendations off the menu, and it offers a delicious variety of italian cuisine. But be warned, if you go for pasta, prepare for a mouthful of butter each serving!
