Had dinner at Amasia by Alan Wong. It serves decent fusion food. Knowing the portion is not big, we decided to order a la carte instead of going for the tasting menu. Chopped Ahi Sashimi with Avocado Salsa and Won Ton was really a great surprise, very unique combination and tasted beautifully. Garlic Shrimp with sweet paprika was quite good too. Soy Braised Short Ribs was absolutely delicious, it's a must try. We also had Grand Set sushi, which comes with 12 pieces, nice presentation but the quality is average. Similarly, the Ginger Crusted Onaga, was a bit over cooked to my liking. The coconut dessert, haupia sorbet in a chocolate coconut shell, has a beautiful presentation, and it is very very good.

While the night started out promissing it went off track with glacial slow service and cold food. While I think the food recipes may be great, the service will drive you out the door before you find out. The GM of the returant is useless and can't seem to get a grip on the huge disconnect between what is prommised and what is actualy delivered. The GW staff is amazing, unfortunately this subcontractor isn't. Ended up at the Botero Bar and ordered off the room service menu, not only did Allen and Keoni get the order placed timely, the food showed up hot, delicious and quick.

We went to the Grand Wailea for the spa...the baths, massage, oh, wait, that's a different review. Made reservations for dinner right after the spa treatments in the same hotel. we were not staying at the Grand; however, everyone was so accomodating and nice it was great!

okay, okay, the food. Amasia opened about 18 months ago so wasn't here the last time we came to visit maui. My so does not eat sushi so it was my treat! and was I treated over and over again. started with the cucumber jalepeno cocktail which was savory yet so refreshing, unbelievably delish. So had the short ribs and miso clam chowder, she was in heaven. the portions seem small when they arrive and we were starving but she wound up not even being able to finish. each thing was so satisfying and amazing in complexity of flavor. I got the sushi set: 6 pieces of nigiri, all different fish with 3 pieces of roll spicy tuna. crazy good. We live in seattle and i thought i had had great sushi and still do; this made me shed a tear.

Quinn, our server, also made everything so fun and light...the perfect amount of attention that you want. explained everything and then left us alone to enjoy and talk and savor each bite.

the coconut dessert is crazy good as well. light, refreshing, everything you want to finish a meal. soft, light coconut sherbert? tasted like creamy goodness to me...surrounded by a thin chocolate shell with amazing island fruit surrounding it. we floated out of Amasia back to reality on a coconut high.

Had a fabulous meal at Amasia. We were lucky enough to be there for restaurant week and enjoyed the 5 course menu with the wine flight at a reasonable price. Portions were small, but absolutely delicious. There was not one dish we didn't enjoy. We were seated in the sushi bar area, which was lacking a bit in ambiance but still pleasant. A couple who were seated next to us explained to their server/hostess that their location wasn't what they were hoping for and were quickly moved to a more private location in the restaurant. I thought it was handled quite well by the staff and would just consider letting them know what you're looking for when you make your reservation if that is something important to your dining experience. Very, very happy with our experience there and can't wait to go back!

Waited 35 minutes, not even drink order, very disappointing. Staff walked by us several times, assured us she would be Back but never returned. Great chef understood, But poor management! Left because we were hungry!
