Wailea Ekahi Village
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 30, 2012

Ekahi offers beachfront condos, great views, good pools and wide open spaces. The best part of the complex is you can walk to a private beach without leaving complex and without crossing any road.

One caution, there is tremendous variability among units. Some are impeccable upgrades, some are tired old units. Some have world class ocean views, some have no views plus road noise.

Use a reputable rental firm ( you can't miss with waileaekahivillage.com). The Pauli family that runs this site is fantastic. They will give the the straight story on each unit.

Find the right unit, and it is truly paradise. So far we have stayed in 18E ( nice view, road noise that did not bother us, longish walk to beach) and 50B ( lower level, nice view, nice location)

We stayed in Ekahi Village unit 10e in July 2012. Excellent huge one bedroom unit, bit of a ocean view, lovely view of the grounds. Quick walk to the pool and beach perhaps 3 minutes. This complex has everything, park right outside your unit, main pool area is huge lots of lounging chairs, bathroom, access to the beach through a private gate, really nice beach you can walk eit her along the pathways to the hotels in Wailea or turn right and walk into Kihei. Our unit was private VRBO represented by Destinations Resorts of Hawaii, they were excellent, really good service, unit was cleaned 2 or 4times in the 8 nights that we stayed, 10E has a super big lanai looking onto the grounds and ocean would stay in it again. Well equipped even beach chairs and coolers. Nothing was lacking, huge one bedroom unit with 2 bathrooms. The owners have left everything you could possibly need. BBQ on the lanai worked great. This unit only sleeps 2 the couch does not open up.We only paid $150 per night this is really a great bargain for this unit. Would not hesitate to stay in it again.

Room Tip: 10E is really close to the ocean a great location.

We rented an Ekahi condo a few years back when our children were teenagers. We had a luxuriously updated upper floor one bedroom unit two minutes from the beach access. I think we paid about $265 a night and that was only because there was construction going on next door. My husband I are returning to Ekahi in a few months but are on a $150 a night budget. Here is the deal about Ekahi: yes, this is an older property at the north end of the Wailea resort area. All the condos are individually owned and therefore have various levels of updates. I would not rent through an agency, but rather through an owner to assure you will get a condo that strikes your fancy. Do a lot of research and view a lot of pictures ( I use VRBO.) Ekahi has beautifully maintained grounds, all the buildings are only two stories high ( no high rise!!!) Keawakapu beach is the most spectacular in all of Wailea, a brief stroll will connect you to all the high end Wailea resorts, restaurants, bars, and other beaches. Wailea is sunnier than the rest of Maui, which is important to me. I just secured a very nice, clean, updated 2nd floor condo ( I only do top floor in case of noise) at the end of high season for $160 a night. Lower village, great Lanai, short stroll to beach. I did do a lot of research and negotiated with the owner. Again, Ekahi is an exceptional choice for Wailea on a budget if you are willing to do the research!

We rented our condo (unit 19C) directly from the owner and couldn't be happier. The experience from first contact was wonderful. The owner was very quick to respond and answer questions and extremely friendly. The condo was nicely appointed in island style and equipped with everything we needed. There were even added touches like a new sponge, paper towels and shampoo and conditioner in the shower. It had all the comforts of home but in paradise! The location was great with a very private feeling lanai where I could enjoy a peek of the ocean and soak in the beautiful gardens on the Ekahi complex - plumeria, bougainvillea and more. We also really enjoyed using the top model Weber grill for lovely dinners on the lanai. The walk to the ocean-side pool was gorgeous, and short (less than 5 minutes and not uphill all the way like many of the condo's on the complex. The price for the condo was also extremely reasonable (we got low season rates). We would definitely stay in this unit again if we come back to Wailea.

Room Tip: The condos at Ekahi are owned by a variety of owners and rental companies and thus, there is vast di...

Hi,

I recently stayed at Ekahi and here is my take. First off, I'm a big Wailea fan. I think all of Maui is beautiful, but the money and effort that is taken to maintain the common areas and hotels in Wailea is as good as it gets. Ekahi is an older condo community and is very well maintained. It may not have the wow factor of the 4 star hotels, but what you get instead are more of the comforts of home (kitchen, washer/dryer, etc). The units in Ekahi are individually owned, so my advice is to find a unit with good reviews and that is in a good location in Ekahi (maps of Ekahi can be found online). If things like an Ocean view are essential, also look at the location and check with the owner, because not every unit provides that. We stayed in unit 5A and were very happy with our choice. The units don't have central air, but many (such as ours) have A/C in the master bedroom and living room. Even in August, we found that just having the windows open and running the ceiling fans worked well for us. The main pool in Ekahi is not large, but we never found it to be crowded. One thing to note is that there are specific pool rules that may impact kids. Games like Marco Polo are not allowed and tossing a ball around the pool are not allowed. That didn't stop my little guy from having a blast, but it is still something to consider. If you're looking for crazy pools and water slides, the Grand Wailea may be a better choice. The pool area also has a shaded area for people to escape the sun, along with a fridge to keep drinks and other items cold. Access to the beach is through a locked gate, but the units are extremely close to the beach and its a great beach for families. You're also within walking distance to the resorts where you can get some good meals. The units always felt safe and were well managed. Parking also was never an issue. Lots of people return to Ekahi on a regular basis and after staying I understand why. It is well maintained and in a great location.

Room Tip: Location, Reviews and Pictures. Don't hesitate to contact the owners.

We just spent a week in unit 34-E at the Wailea Ekahi Village. Our condo was very spacious, well-equipped, very clean, and comfortable. Our view from the lanai was wonderful (ocean, palm trees, etc) and we ate most of our 'at home' meals out there (nice table, chairs, lounge, propane grill). The grounds and pool (there were several pools) were well-maintained, and had all the amenities we wanted / needed. The housekeeping staff was gracious and helpful. Our unit had nice artwork (island flavor) and decor. We would definitely consider coming back and asking for this unit again. We have been to Hawaii more than 10 times, most of which have been condo-stays, and this was one of the best.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an ocean view.

So I'm writing this as we are on day four of six days at Ekahi. The grounds are very well maintained, providing the privacy you need on your lanai. The pool is small, but I'm not a pool person when I vacation as I'd rather swim in the ocean. The beach entrance is easy to getting and opens up to an expansive beach with very few people, much quieter than our four days at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu. We are in 51e, which is very clean, slightly older decor but the owners take great care of their unit. The owners were so easy to work with, having found their condo through VRBO. downsides... As anyone knows, Wailea = expensive, so people need to accept that before coming here. We've enjoyed a few great dinners in Wailea, some cheaper meals and dive bars with great happy hours in Kihei. Take advantage of the fully equipped condos, as we enjoyed eating breakfast and lunch in our unit. I would recommend Ekahi and 51e to anyone looking for a laid back vacation with their loved one. Can't speak of how entertained children will be, as I really didn't see that many and I don't have any. :)
