“Honeymoon dinner ”
Reviewed April 27, 2014 via mobile

My husband and I went here for dinner twice during our stay at the Grand Wailea. The first time the food was great and the service was okay. We had surf & turf and the blackened snapper. Both very good!! The second time we had filets again and they were just ok. Not cooked as well as the previous time and the cut was a little different. Our waiter was awesome though and so was the manager. He stepped outside to take our photo at sunset, they also gave us dessert on the house since we were honeymooning. They really went out of their way for us to make sure we had a great experience. Overall, good restaurant and top notch service just like the hotel. Would eat here again!

Definitely the best restaurant at the Grand Wailea. Everything we ordered was just perfect. Try book when sun is about the go down, view was excellent.

“Saved the worse for last!”
Reviewed April 26, 2014

We hit some great restaurants in Wailea last week. After being pampered at Sarento's, Ferraros, Longhi's,and Nick's Seafood Market, we anticipated a great evening at Humuhumunukunukuapua'a at the Grand Wailea for our 50th wedding anniversary last Thursday. What a. Bust! We were awed by the palatial grounds and ybuilding as we made our way to the restaurant on the romantic lagoon. We were greeted warmly by the receptionist and congratulated on our anniversary. We were then shown to a table next to a lively family and had a wonderful view of a stack of high chairs and an exit sign. This would not do, so they tried again. They gave us a choice of three tables -- none with a view toward the ocean. We asked about other tables that were vacant, but even though there were few diners in the entire place, we were told they were not available because they seated four and we were two. Resigned to their offering, we accepted a table in the back lagoon area. There was one other active table there. Then our server arrived, but not with the flair we expected. Unenthusiastic, matter of fact, going through the motions. We ordered libations and an appetizer -- baby back ribs. The ribs arrived -- barely warm, tough, tasteless. Decision time. When the server returned to take our order, we told her we decided not to stay for dinner. Blasé, no surprise, no inquiry. We checked Open Table to see if we could somehow salvage the evening. Fortunately, Sarento's had an opening. So, off we went and the evening was a success. Our assessment: Humuhumunukunukuapua'a is in trouble. Few diners, a poorly trained server staff, stinky lagoon water, lousy food. What a disappointment. Beware -- all ye who enter there!

“Excellent Food!”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

We dined here with our three children on Easter Sunday. The place is beautiful and we had a great view of the sunset over the ocean. The kids loved looking at the fish in the pond that the restaurant sits over. We got off to a slow start. Our appetizers never came out. When they finally came out, 45 minutes later, they were delicious. Our dinner (filet mignons and lobster) was spectacular. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We all ordered dessert and that was excellent, too. Aside from the slow service we got at the beginning of our meal, we loved this restaurant. To make up for it our waitress only charged us half price for the lobster dish and didn't charge us for dessert. I would definitely go back here. This was one of our favorite restaurants during our stay in Maui.

“Average food with slow, uninterested service”
Reviewed April 19, 2014 via mobile

Dined here after reading online reviews. Location was cool. The food was good but the restaurant overall seemed dated. Certainly had better meals throughout our trip and I regret not selecting another restaurant in lieu of this one for the evening.
