“Best dinner on Maui”
Reviewed April 6, 2011

We went to Maui for our honeymoon. We are foodies and wanted to enjoy excellent food in a romantic atmosphere. Humu definitely met those criteria. Beautiful setting, felt authentically Hawaiian. We had dinner our first night and appetizers and drinks another night. We went to many other recommended restaurants but for the perfect mix of amazing food and atmosphere, this one was it. I thought the food was better than Mamas, which honestly felt sort of chainey and definitely not romantic. Of course this was not the best value but when you take into account you are paying for the location and atmosphere as much as the food, it is very well worth it.

We had the rib appetizer (delicious), crab crusted Hawaiian fish with potato and hearts of palm augratin (the best dish of the entire trip), and the macadamia nut crusted fish (the Mac crust was like candy!).

The night that we had dinner without the appetizer but with 3 drinks and 2 deserts (the deserts were not really a highlight) ran us about $150, which is comparable to most places we went. Reservations are recommended if you want one of the tables with the most beautiful view clustered around the bar.

“Extremely Disappointing - Skip it and chose somewhere else!”
Reviewed March 18, 2011

We were looking forward to our dinner at Humu at Grand Wailea after seeing the ads showcasing some of their signature dishes and checking out their menu. The restaurant was nice and the greeter friendly but they were the only positives. My wife had the Beet and Greens Salad and the Diver Scallops for her entree, I had the Diver Scallops as an appetizer and the Butterfish as the main. The scallops looked fantastic but they were too sweet. The Butterfish was too heavily seasoned with shoyu sauce that made it too salty. There was nothing subtle about the flavours. Everything was too overpowering which spoilt the natural ingredients of the dishes. Very disappointing. Also the server seemed to be a bit of a surfer dude who had other things on his mind. He neglected to mention that when you ordered the scallops all you got were 4 scallops. If we'd known, we would have ordered side dishes. In a way we were fine in the end, as the entrees didn't taste great so why bother adding more food.

“great food, ok atmosphere”
Reviewed March 2, 2011

It doesn't look as nice as tidepools in Kauai, but the food is better than tidepools. The lamb is excellent, the fish is fresh and cooked properly. Had a great waiter too. Probably the second best meal in maui after koiso.

“Incredible meal, memorable evening!”
Reviewed February 28, 2011

Of all the great meals we've had this trip on Maui, the meal at Humu stands out. My mahi mahi was perfectly prepared, the service was spot on and the setting was tremendous. Go at sunset and sit at one of the tables along the edge of the pavilion where the bar is located, and enjoy the view. We liked it so much we're going again before we leave.

“Worst service on Maui!”
Reviewed February 24, 2011

We so looked forward to our Birthday dinner at the Humu at Grand Wailea.....boy were we disappointed. The worst waiter in Hawaii waited on us! No personality, no excitement, no help, simply did not care!! Sad very sad. Will not go back.
