“RUN AWAY!”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

After standing in the ridiculously long buffet line, three main entrees were empty. Served ourselves a bland macaroni salad and fried rice. Returned to see if they replenished the empty entree dishes, instead they had completely cleared the buffet. Went do get ad drink at the "included" bar, they only stock bottom of dithering barel wines and liquor. Was served a drink with vile triple sec and half coke. Took a sip, BLECH! Discarded the drink and returned to our room to nibble on crackers. A complete waste of $200.00

“Great Family Experience”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

We were staying at the Grand Wailea so decided to try out the Luau there. This was our first and only Luau so I cant compare to any others but we thoroughly enjoyed it. The price of the ticket included dinner, dessert, soft drinks, beer, wine, mai tais, pina coladas, coffee and tea. You can buy VIP tickets to get better seating, but we did not bother and could still see the stage fine (although it was not fully booked when we went and had empty tables in the back row).

They recommend to go over and check in at 4.00pm for better seating, which was easy for us as we were staying there and one of us just headed over to do it. I can see how it would be a bit annoying if not staying there though. You then go back over at 5.00 start your Luau experience.

You are greeted by a couple of the dancers and get your photo taken (not obliged to buy, I think was around $20 if you did want it). You then head to your table (10 per table) and you are free to go and get drinks or you can go have a look at a few stalls that are selling souvenirs and gifts. They also did some Hawaiian lawn games which our boys aged 6 + 8 loved. You also get to witness the raising of the pig, which the kids were fascinated by.

They start the buffet by tables and the VIP ticketed tables go first. It is all done in an orderly manner and they just call up a table at a time so no real queues when getting the food. We loved the food, it was great quality for a buffet and a there was a good selection. It's in a great location and you get a spectacular beach sunset over dinner.

They start the show by getting people who want to go up on stage and do some Hula Dancing. All the kids on our table got up on the stage and had a ball. Then the dancers begin the show which was great and the storyline was easy enough for the kids to follow. They especially loved the fire dancer at the end. There are photo opportunities with the dancers after the show.

Would definitely recommend anyone staying at the Grand Wailea to go and experience the Luau.

“A great evening”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

This is the only Luau we have done in Hawaii, and we had a great time. The food was good as well as the show. The show told the history of Maui through the various dances. I highly recommend it. You need to do a Luau if in Hawaii! All food and drink is included in the cost. They have some local vendors at the show, so bring some cash if you'd like to purchase some of their crafts/jewelry.

“Best luau in South Maui”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

The food is good, the show is very good, and the ambiance nice. It's a little cheesy, but it is a tourist attraction. Less authentic than the Old Lahina Luau, which has the best dancing, but it's not worth the trip to Lahina to get there. So this is your best South side bet!

“Intimate and romantic Luau”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

This is a more intimate and romantic Luau.

The luau area is within the Grand Wailea Resort. The area isn't as big as others. The food selection is more towards quality than varieties. The open bar is very average as it only serves Mai Tai, Pina Colada, orange juice, pineapple juice and Shirley Temple plus limited wine selection.

People there are more civilized than some other luaus. Big plus for me. I think the Hyatt Luau (Drums of the Pacific Luau) has more bells and whistles but that place's like eating at a football field. Here, you will get good view of the stage even if you don't buy the VIP tickets.

One special note: The pork is allergy friendly per the chef. Basically. nothing is added except salt, sugar and water. It is one of the very best Luau pork I have eaten (out of 7 I experienced in Hawaii) since it's so well cooked. My younger son who has allergy to nuts, soy, wheat, egg, milk, banana, beef, seafood, shell fish ... (no kidding) really enjoy one of the very rare non-self-made meals he has.
