Description: Hawaii's first and only Relais & Chateaux restaurant, The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea offers a European-inspired elegance infused with creative island-to-table cuisine. Menus are created around what is readily available from Maui’s own farms and fisherman ensuring that each dish is prepared using only the finest local, seasonal and artisanal products; including those grown in the restaurant’s own garden and farming operation. From its perch on the hillside above South Maui's Wailea resort area, the restaurant offers sweeping panoramic ocean views from the upper lanai and intimate dining under the stars in the garden.

I had one of their fish dishes. Small portion but the fish and puréed veggies and crispy veggies delicately decorated on top all added so much flavor to the dish! Expensive but worth the taste!

Had a great meal here on our honeymoon. Call ahead to get a table on the terrace and you can watch the sunset. We were extremely spoiled with all of our meals and this one was no exception.

Our main server was excellent in all respects, but everything else from the wine to the food was seriously lacking. They pushed a tasting menu option, but if the portions of that option were any smaller than the regular portions that my group of four ordered, then one would have thought they had never been served - you could essentially call the servings "essence of servings" - for women as well as men. Very disappointing and we would neither recommend it not return. Paid a lot of money for a particular wine vintage that my nephew ordered, but the bottle we received was not that vintage - instead another year entirely, which as most know is never the same - the fact that they brought a bottle that was different and never mentioned that it was a different vintage says a lot!!

Our best culinary experience of a week on Maui. Excellent wine list with a number of special tropical drinks. The latter were pricey, as usual, the standard cocktails were what one expect to pay in an upscale place. Excellent starters including the caprese salad, the tortellini, the risotto, and a very unique and flavorful vignole salsiccia. Main courses included the hanging steak, the cioppino, and the crispy fish -a magnificent dish. Desserts were unique in their presentation and flavor, but probably the weakest part of the meal. Service by Kyle and his associate was flawless -pleasant, friendly. The pace was virtually perfect, we never sat for long periods of time between courses but never felt hurried. Open-air, covered seating, there was no view as it was after sundown, very quiet, intimate atmosphere. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. The only downside was the final tab, for four drinks, five first courses, four mains and four desserts, the tab was $400. Tip was extra. Was it worth it ? Absolutely, but be warned, this restaurant is not for everyone. If you are on a budget, or if you are strictly meat and potatoes, or have a huge appetite, you should probably eat elsewhere. As others have mentioned, portions are somewhat small, although all of us were pleasantly full at the end of the evening. This place is all about unique presentations and unusual flavor combinations -if that is what you seek, you will not be disappointed. Unless you are familiar with Wailea, do not even attempt to find this place without a GPS, especially at night. The almost complete lack of street lighting in Hawaii makes nighttime navigation difficult.
