Grand Wailea - A Waldorf Astoria Resort
Ranked #6 of 8 Hotels in Wailea

The room was very big with huge bathroom. Views to the beach. Fantastic gardens with pools, waterfords..The Spa is amazing (at the beginning, I didnt want to spend some of my time in Hawaii in a Spa, but I am so glad I did it just for 2 hours). Employees are very friendly and the service is excellent. A bit tired about listening Äloha!!¨ by hotels employees everytime I took the lift, thought!
The beach is lovely, and just down the resort.
In my opinion, if you are spending more than 4 days there, rent a car. If you like activities and explore, you cant do it walking from there. I have to add that the resort offers free mountain bikes! so we took them to explore the island.

We stayed three nights a few weeks before the crowds expected for Spring Break. Resort is beautiful, well manicured and maintained. Our desire was for the pools and beach, which were fantastic and fully met our expectations. Lazy river, slides, pools, rope swing...clean sand beach sheltered from rough surf, lots of grassy areas and lots of landscaping, walking paths, waterfalls, koi ponds, etc. Has it all. If you want a clean, upscale area and resort, this is it. The food/restaurant selection was OK, but not great. They need a Hula Grill..!! Of course everything is expensive...but that's how you maintain an upscale clean and beautiful resort. We expected it. We were able to find shade at the pool with free umbrellas (family pool, not adult pool) - IF YOU GET UP EARLY and stake out your spot. Negatives: Drinks and food are 20% more expensive than they should be. Some of the staff were not friendly or helpful (we had significantly better staff service at the Kaanapali Westin which we visited next). Room service failed to pick up dishes outside door for 2 days and multiple phone calls, and when we finished the coffee and creamer every morning in the room, we had to call room service for fresh creamer replacement the next day (you would think that would be a no-brainer). BTW...the guy who delivered it was none too happy. So for what it is, we had a GREAT time and would cerainly visit again. However for full Waldorf-Astoria expectations, some of the finer details were not consistenly present. Bottom line: It's a beautiful place that you can't help fully enjoying if you look past some of the minor things. Hopefully the resort management reads these threads. They are not far off the mark.

They have beautiful grounds and art at the resort. The rooms were very nice, great beach. Two dissapointments were the food options and uncaring and unfriendly staff at check in and in the spa. Expect to pay for everything even shade. We couldn't find one umbrella at the adult pool. You can pay for a cabana. Amazing place for children because of the slides. The scuba lessons with Eric were great, he was patient and thourough. A must try.

Our stay at the Grand Wailea was wonderful. The room was quite large with a huge bathroom, separate shower and tub, and a spectacular partial view of the ocean, the palm trees and the manicured grounds of the hotel.
The service at the hotel, from the reception to the housekeeping was excellent. The concierge was very helpful with directions to restaurants and arrangements for a snorkeling trip to Molokini.
I only have one complaint about the hotel and it is that you have to pay to have shade by the pools or on the grassy areas overlooking the ocean. We checked on the cost of a cabana (which, by the way, were 90% vacant during our entire stay of 10 days)and it was $225 per day for a cabana. The small two seater shaded cabanas near the beach were $50 per day.I don't know what families did with small children who can't be exposed to the sun for an entire day.
There were a couple of umbrellas near some of the pools.(none around the adult pool). I think at a luxury hotel like this, some alternate shade should have been available for its guests.

Gorgeous location, amazing beach, great pools, beautiful art, nice landscaping. We were on the 9th (top) floor that provided an awesome view of Molokini. Comfy beds and quiet rooms. Food was typical resort fair and was quite pricey. Stay away from the Kula Cafe for actual food, for drinks and packaged snacks it is ok. Breakfast buffet was excellent and so was the service. Don't bother paying $20/day for valet. The free parking garage is secure and not far away. Our almost 4 year old son had a blast and so did we. Didn't think it was quite Waldorf-Astoria material, but it was a super nice place, just had more of a hotel feel, not so posh room wise.

We stayed at the Grand Wailea for 8 night in February 2010 and had a great time. We were in room 3056 and had a partial ocean view room. The view was very pretty in our opinion, you could see the ocean and also one of the many pools.

Our room was right next to the ice machine and we checked and soon as we noticed this to see if it would be loud and a probelm and we could not hear the ice machine at all.

Our room was spacious and very clean, we had turn down service each night and it was wonderful.

We ordered room service two mornings while we were there and it was delicious and delivered before promised.

We had dinner at Humu four out of the eight nights and thought the food and service were excellent. The view from Humu was also wonderful.

Our first full day at the Grand Wailea was the day that that the Tsunami was due to hit the island. The hotel was great at evacuating the first three floors which included our room. The way they handled the evacuation very good. They had printed updates that they had available so we always knew what was to be expected.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a luxurioius vacation.
