We were married at the Grand Wailea ten years ago and just returned from our anniversary trip there with our seven and five year old girls. What an amazing experience. The kids were welcomed everywhere - slides, gift shops, all restaurants on the property - and actually cried when it was time for us to go home after nine days there. Yes, it is expensive - but worth every penny. They upgraded our room WITHOUT knowing we were married there ten years ago or that it was even our anniversary... nice. Maid service twice a day was an unexpected luxury when we showered every afternoon before going out and found clean dry towels and beds turned down when we got back. The people, from the pools to the restaurants to the cleaning people, were friendly, helpful and considerate. I won't stay anywhere else on Maui - it's that perfect.

Between the service, food, water slides, pools, and beach, this is the single best hotel I have ever stayed at.

We stayed at the Grand Wailea the last week of March '09 into the first week of April. While we signed up for potential upgrades, given the US economy we thought we had a chance of getting one, a pharmaceutical convention was in town. Despite that we were upgraded from an ocean view to a deluxe ocean view. Our room was spectacular we were on the 8th floor and overlooked the Wedding Chapel and had a direct view of the ocean. The rooms were clean and we spent the $25/wk to have a refrigerator brought to our room, best money we ever spent. We were able to get wine and food at the shop at Wailea and just sit on our balcony and relax when we wanted to without being forced to go out for lunch every day or evening. We had no trouble finding seating around the adult pool unlike the difficulty we used to have when our daughter was younger and we tried to find space around the water slide pools. The new policy where they will provide you with free, yes I said free chairs and umbrellas on the beach was greatly appreciated. I gave $5 tip to the porter who put our chairs and umbrella out each time.

Dining:
We really like the upscaled wine/food menu at Bistro Molokini and ate there several times but our favorite is still Ferraro's at the Four Seasons. Ferraro's food and view are spectacular. Not cheap but spectacular.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights this past weekend on my HHonors points. When we checked in, we were told our room would be a garden view room. Upon request with no additional charge, we were immediately upgraded to an ocean view room. I forgot the name of the tower but our room was near the end so it was quite a walk to the nearest elevator. The room view was fantastic. We used the pools quite a lot and found it very clean and very large I might add. We did not eat at any of the hotel's restaurants so I can't speak for those. We valley-parked our car throughout our stay and found the staffs there to be courteous, quick, and very professional. We never had to wait longer than 5 minutes for our car and we never called ahead. My wife and I have stayed at quite a number of Hilton family hotels including those that are part the Waldorf Astoria Collection (i.e. Rome Cavalieri). This has to be one of the Best.

My husband and I stayed at the Wailea for our honeymoon. For the price of this hotel we had high expectations. Our Oceanfront room was very nice and the grounds of the hotel were lovely. All was well until about 5AM. We awoke to a noise that sounded like gym sneakers in a washing machine which lasted for 2 minutes and would repeat every 10 minutes. When we called the front desk, it took a little pleading, but they were courteous and sent a bellman up to move our room. They moved us to the Napua tower but to a "temporary room" while we waited for another to be ready. This room had broken shutters, no ocean view, and a pillow top mattress pad that was too small for the bed. It was also extremely noisy. About an hour later they moved us to our final room which was very nice. Definitely not worth what they charge for it, but very nice. They apologized profusely for the noise, which we were told was a pipe problem, and gave us some goodies to smooth over the situation. We were back on track.

After that there were some small disappointments. First, there is no shade at the adult pool unless you pay for a cabana. At the activities pool, chairs are right on top of each other and it is very hard to have any semblance of privacy. Next, there is no room service lunch. At a hotel of this calibur? When we asked if someone could just bring a take out order from one of the hotel restaurants, we received more apologies. Finally, even after calling 5 minutes before we went down for our car, we always had to wait at the vallet for 5-10 minutes.

Overall its a nice hotel, but I think more value is obtained at the Four Seasons where service is amazing and you dont have to pay extra for shade or privacy.
