We had an excellent time. Our first room was near construction across the street and they moved us immediately to a much nicer location. My kids couldn't get enough of the pools, everyone was nice and friendly and the pool area was kept nice and neat. We got a refrigerator for an extra $25 per stay and loaded up on sodas and snacks to keep the kids happy, and the cost of food down. We were at the Grand Wailea for just 3 days before moving on to a nice hotel in Kaanapali that didn't even come close to the GW. Next time we will stay put at the Grand Wailea.

My family has stayed at the Grand Wailea every year for the past 7 years. We just can't get enough of this hotel! It is perfect for my two daughters(13 and 16) and is ideal for my wife and I as well. Contradictary to what other reviews say, the hotel rooms and service have always been superb. Everyone is very friendly and are happy to help out in any way possible. The pools are spectacular. The water slides keep my kids busy all day, and the adult pool give my wife and I a chance to relax. The food is nothing special, but is acceptable. However, just minutes away is a great shooping center filled with exceptional restaurants( I suggest Longhi's Italian restaurant). The Grand Wailea Resort offers great activities for anyone, and should truly be refered to as a 5 star hotel. It easily beats the Four Seasons!! The expense is definatly worth it!

My husband and I were married August 30, 2003 and we flew into Maui on a Sunday evening to our second choice hotel. By the next evening we were unhappy and did not feel that this hotel was accommodating our needs. (There was mold on the walls in the room and they were unwilling to move us to a different room.) Tuesday morning we checked into our first choice hotel, The Grand Wailea, and that was when our honeymoon started. The moment we drove up the driveway and pass the waterfalls it seemed as though our trip had just began. Upon checking-in we expressed our recent negetive experience with the other hotel and the woman at the front desk assured us that our stay would be wonderful. She not only put us at ease but she provided us a positive honeymoon experience. Our suite was beautiful and the grounds were out of this world. After checking-in we went to the connoisseur for new plans for dinners and such and they were very accommodating. (They even scheduled a romantic couples full body massage with Regina and it was a piece of heaven.) Our honeymoon was saved because this hotel knows how to treat their guests. We would definitely return! If we were to renew our vows it would be at The Grand Wailea!!!

My family and I have returned from the Grand Wailea. I am walking handicapped and it is a very difficult hotel to get around. The grounds are too vast and are not wheelchair friendly. When we booked a ocean view room, we expected an ocean view room. We received a palm tree view room.
Management was not understanding the concept of what an ocean view room was and told us they could assists us in finding a hotel somewhere else.
Imagin that?????
The Hybiscus pool needs repair. Tile is missing the pool pumps were not working correctly.
The new management needs to look at the black mold they have growing in the pool and on the grounds. The new company, KSL Corporation needs to reclassify most of the ocean view rooms.
At best they should be called partial ocean view on some and others garden view.
CAUTION....Do not spend the money for an ocean view room. You must purchase a deluxe ocean view room to see the ocean unobstructed. Do not go if you need a wheelchair, prices of food outrageous. The only thing I can say is that the fun area for the kids is very nice.

We just returned from 4th of July week at the Grand Wailea, our fourth visit over the past few years. The hotel is as beautiful as ever, and the rooms have been recently remodeled, and it shows. We found the service greatly improved as well, with everyone going out of their way to be friendly and helpful (although they need more service at the pools). The pools are the nicest of any hotel we have stayed at, and the spa is a cut above those at other "5 star" hotels. Also, the beach is right next to the pools, so it is easy to go back and forth. The fitness facilities are first rate--great cycling classes and yoga. Also, they let older children (who are well behaved) in some of the classes, and our kids had a blast in the hip-hop class and the rebound aerobics class.

There are still two areas where the hotel is lacking. First, the restaurants are nothing special. Instead, try Spagos at the Four Seasons, and Longhis and Tommy Bahamas at the Shops next door. Second, renting a cabana is a mysterious nightmare. They don't seem to have their process down. You can wait on a wait list for days, and then hear nothing, or you can go down to the pool at 7am and reserve one. We traded off doing this with friends that were there (sharing a cabana with them). At $125 per day, they should put up a few more cabanas, and make the reservation process easier.

Overall, great place for families. We will be back as long as we have kids.

My husband and I took our second trip to Maui June 28th through July 5th 2004. On our first trip, we stayed on the West side, and thought it would be great to see a different part of the island. We checked into the Grand Wailea on the evening of June 28th and were greeted with an overwhelming stench of mold and mildew, and a wet rug and bugs crawling on the floor. It was late, so we went to sleep dispite the smell. When we woke up in the morning, we were able to see clearly how run down and old this room was. I had terrible tightness in my chest as a result of a mold allergy. We called down stairs, and were offered a different room - upstairs one floor in a smoking room!! As though that would help with my discomfort. We decided to check out, and went to the Ritz Calton, Kapalua - where the room was fabulous and fresh for 150$ less per night and had a wonderful, healthy, remainder of our trip. I believe the price of these rooms at the Grand Wailea are an outrage.. I do not recommend this hotel AT ALL. They are relying on reputation, but do not nearly offer the luxury they promise.

the grand wailea is beautiful-- but if you are looking for seclusion- this place is not your best bet. the rooms were beautiful and clean. the maid service was good- they come twice a day and turn down your bed. they had a couple of pools but they were absolutely, ridiculously packed all day long. i recommend going only to the adult pool - if you are not traveling with children because the other pool is like "kiddie-city" they have slides, a water elevator, lazy river, swim up pool bar, and a rope swing. also-- good luck finding a chair at either of the pools- very busy. the cheeseburgers were delicious at the pool grill. the spa is was the best part of the resort! my husband and i had massages and used the facilities for a few hours. ONE PEICE OF ADVICE--DO NOT GO TO THE SPA IF YOU DO NOT LIKE TO SEE PEOPLE NUDE- EVERYONE IS NUDE WALKING AROUND! it didn't bother me, but some people may feel funny. if you do, don't go. take advantage of all of the baths and showers at the spa- they are wonderful! overall- i did not think the food at this resort was very good at all. we went next door to the shops at wailea, and ate at ruth's chris steakhouse. very good. the nightclub- tsunami- is very nice. lots of drinks and dancing! the shops at this resort were also pretty nice- just plan on spending lots of $$ there.
