This hotel is almost exactly as we anticipated it would be. Stayed here for a week, during a work conference last January, and really enjoyed it. The location of the hotel on the island is ideal, it is in a clean and safe area without a bunch of hub bub around it. The grounds are simply fantastic, and very well maintained. The pools are clean, the beach is combed, and the layout of the grounds although very large, are easy to figure out after the first day. The staff were really sweet and helpful. We enjoyed the shops and all the restaurants, the only word of warning there is that they are VERY expensive. The breakfast buffet is WORTH it, even if just for the hotel's coffee. You can't beat the Khona Bean they use. My only complaint, and a minor one at that, is that the room itself, while clean, seemed a little outdated. There were minor flaws, like cracks in the tiles in the bathroom and old carpeting. But who spends any amount of time in their room in Hawaii, anyways? You are paying through the nose to be at this resort, but it is just that, a resort - and an experience in and of itself. My partner and I thought it was worth it.

We stayed at this hotel during the first half of our stay and then moved to another hotel where I attended a conference. This hotel was outstanding. Great beach, views, rooms, comfy beds, good food. When we got to the other hotel we were sorry that we had to leave the Grand Wailea!

We stayed for a few days after thanksgiving, while the grounds are beautiful the pools are expansive we were surprised at how many families with small kids were running around the pools and there was a huge crowd of what seemed like locals using the pool as well, it was crowded and chaotic like a water park. Not what I'd expect from a hotel of this caliber. I tried the spa and have never seen such a cattle call of women, it was crazy busy! There were piles of towels on every chair because there isn't places to hang them so I had a hard time finding a place to sit while waiting for my treatment. It wasn't very relaxing. There were probably 20 women waiting at any one time and once you step out of a shower there is a line waiting for it so you feel rushed through the pre treatment amenities. For $165 + tip, I'd rather go to a less crowded more luxurious spa like the 4 seasons up the beach. Valet charge of $35 no matter what, there is no self parking. The room was just nice nothing special but the bathroom was large and had a separate bath tub and shower which is lovely. We had to walk a very long ways from the pool to get to our room and because the resort is so big and you may have to take 2 different elevators, its easy to get lost. There are a lot of shops but don't think you're saving money getting your breakfast at the little store/cafe there, it's still $40 for a bagel and eggs and coffee. I actually would prefer the marriot down the beach where we stayed for a few nights on this trip, it was quiet and we had a ground floor room with a great view no need for elevators, the infinity pool was awesome and I got some of the best pictures of my trip from there and the value just can't be beat.

We stayed for 7 days at the end of November and had an Ocean Deluxe View Room.
Pro's: Beautiful property and grounds, great adult pool, great beach and good service.
Con's : Rooms very outdated and small, old furniture, soft beds, drinks weak and way overpriced, food OK but way overpriced, valet parking charge of $35 per day plus tip is over the top,

I don't think due to the con's that I would stay here again. The value for the money is not here.

Room Tip: Not worth the money

This hotel overall is magnificent in appearance. The layout of the hotel is very nice & the pools/common areas are beautiful. It's quite large so it may take some time to find your way around, but take the footpaths & stairs because they're more enjoyable than riding the elevator. The room size was really nice for a King room. Bathroom was very large. The staff was accommodating with our request for a fan (for some white noise) because the ceiling fan and AC were extremely quiet. Free wifi was provided, but it was quite slow (2-3 MBps). You could upgrade for faster connection for a daily fee. The pools are open until 10pm, but the hotel issues wristbands to control access & the pool concierge closes at 6pm, so get your wristband before dinner if you want to swim later! The adults only Hibiscus pool temp is considerably warmer than the other pools that allow children.
The restaurants are good overall. Adequate for a vegetarian. The restaurants are pricey but the portions are good which makes it a bit of a better value. Amasia (their American/Asian restaurant) was worth a splurge & the time: it's a tapas type restaurant & the food was really good. Cocktails are all overpriced & are very average. Each restaurant has a drink happy hour which means you pay $10 for a drink instead of $12-$15. The best drink special is the Mai Tai at the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a (Hawaiian state fish) restaurant. This restaurant also has a nice seating area for a group of 10.
Cafe Kula serves Starbuck's coffee and has take away type breakfast items (bagel & cream cheese was $6.50). 12 oz coffee starts at around $3.50.
Grand Wailea makes it easy to charge almost anything to your room, but beware - you WILL be surprised with all the charges at checkout.
