This is a beautiful Hotel on a nice little beach. The beach is shared by the hotels on either side of it - Four Season and Marriot. The property is lush and tropical with picturesque streams and waterfalls running throughout. The Koi in the ponds are beautiful and come to the bank where you stand looking for treats. The view from the room was pretty good. We were 9th story putting us above the rest of the resort so we could see the tropical gardens and the beach if we looked to the side. If looking for a good ocean view make sure you are up top, I would not have like a lower room. The balcony on the room was quite nice to relax on. The bed however was so uncomfortable. They had a down mattress cover on it and that provided no help. I think they need to replace their furniture - mattress and couch. The bath room was nice enough and clean but it showed a little wear in the shower. The service however was amazing. The staff treats you like royalty, especially the valet. Be aware that if sticker shock gets to you do not stay here. It is very pricey. $30 a day for valet plus $25 a day resort fee on top of room price. Breakfast buffet was delightful but again it is $30 each. Having stayed in Hawaii before none of these prices surprised me as we have paid that for breakfast on other islands. Its Hawaii, high prices are par for the course. Good restaurants and shopping are within walking distance of this hotel. Oh and the pool at the resort will delight the kid in everyone! Water slides galore and a lazy river with swim up bar. If this is too active for you and you are trying to avoid the 1000 children around the grand pool then head to the adult only pool for some quiet relaxation. It is beautiful too.

Room Tip: If you want good ocean views from your room be sure to ask for the top floor.

Part 2 of our trip to maui was spent here. Great rooms friendly service incredible pool but super pricey. If you have the money it's worth it but they charge you for everything and I mean everything, a mimosa was 13.50 a float for their pool $8 a Mai Thai was 22

We stay for 3 nights at this hotel. Front desk staff worked to provide upgraded room. This hotel had beautiful lobby. Room and bathroom were spacious. Pool area was fantastic. Great place to bring kids but we really enjoyed the adult pool. Food at hotel restaurants was great and breakfast buffet was outstanding. Everything was very clean. I enjoyed Yoga on the Beach in the morning and would recommend this hotel.

For $500 plus per night, the rooms need to be updated. The resort is gorgeous, big and grand, but my goodness, spend a dime on your rooms. How long has it been since they've been updated?
Two bottles of comped water for the week? Huh?
$29.95 for the breakfast buffet? If you think the "cafe" is a better deal try ordering two egg white spinach wraps, a granola yogurt parfait and one orange juice. It will only run you $39.95! I would highly suggest eating off property. If you want high end dining the Four Seasons next door has excellent prix fixe menus in the evening and the Shops at Waileal also has a variety of fairly priced food venues. There's no reason to be stuck here with the high prices.
Here's a tip. Ask the employees who are all very nice and helpful for off property suggestions. They can easily direct you.
The pools are great and the beach is very nice, but you need to get up at the crack of dawn to run down and leave crap on beach chairs so you can have one. That's a terrible thing to have to do. Yes, the spa is gorgeous. We got an excellent price on a spa package previously, but did not use the spa on this stay.
Occupancy is obviously much higher than it was a couple years ago and hence the price increase in room rates over the last two years. We don't think it's justified. And I would never call this a Waldorf Astoria, although the rooms are about as dated as the NYC property whose rooms also are in need of being refreshed.
We visited the Four Seasons and the Fairmont and thought both were a better value than the prices Hilton extracts at the Grand Wailea.
I think the best value in this area if you're wanting to save money would be the Marriott. Otherwise, for similar room rates, the Fairmont and Four Seasons are more to our liking, albeit they don't come with Hilton Honors points.

This is a lovely hotel, but depending on your room, it will may be a little dated. We stayed in the "amasia" wing (8th floor) and the carpet was a little old and the bath tile a little dated. The beds however, were very comfortable with nice linens. It's an enormous hotel, so you may want to enquire if certain rooms were recenlty updated. Overall, the property is lovely and it's in a great location on the beach. The spa gets a lot of hype and while all the various "water pools" are unique, it too was a little dated inside. Highly recommend the Japanese restaurant on property called "Amasia" which was wonderful.

Room Tip: Avoid a room near the elevator. The hallways on the 8th floor (Amasia wing) can be noisy.

My family stayed for eight days in April and we had a fantastic time thanks to a great resort with excellent facilities, friendly staff and good service (thanks Ryan for the pizza restaurant tip). We had interconnecting rooms on the ninth floor which were clean, comfortable with a nice view over the resort and out to sea, great sunsets. My daughters just loved the pools, water slides and golden sand beach, this place has it all to keep the kids entertained while I tried the three golf courses all within a short distance. The shops and restaurants are within a five minute walk if you want something different for dinner.
Overall a good experience although expect to pay for food and drinks at the resort.

Room Tip: go high up to the ninth floor for the view but expect to do a bit of walking to the pools and beach...

Going to the Grand Wailea is a once in a lifetime experience. There's no question that it is a top notch resort with expansive and luxurious spaces. The pools, surrounding grounds and beachfront property make this an idyllic setting for a romantic getaway or a company trip. My wife and I stayed 6 nights as part of a company President's Club trip. That being said, almost all expenses were included which made jade my response some. I also admit that I've been on Kauai and Oahu which also aide my perspective.

It is very hard to beat the views in Hawaii. If you want a tropical, lush experience, Hawaii is the place to go. If you're going to Maui, the Grand Wailea is the place to stay. Our ocean view room was exceptional, no complaints about our view. We had a small maintenance problem and it was handled immediately and professionally with little impact to our vacation. The beach staff were professional and we found the pools to be inviting and the right temperature. The Luau onsite had very good food and the performances were quite well done considering luaus are known for their lack of pizzaz. It is easy to see why so many people want to come to Maui and this resort.

For my few (and I stress few) complaints, I offer them here as helps to readers just to set the proper expectations for your stay.
Prices: This is Hawaii and you should expect everything to be at least double what you might pay in the Caribbean or Mexico. That includes food, entertainment, everything. Unfortunately, I found that the prices for the buffet at breakfast were outrageous for the quality and variety of the food. The service staff was always helpful, but the prices irritated me enormously.

Beach Chairs: If you want a beach chair, they are included. However, plan to arrive on the beach no later than 830a (maybe earlier based on occupancy) if you want to have a hotel provided umbrella and lounge chair. The pool side lounge chairs are VERY hard to find since most of the prime real estate is taken up by cabanas which are for rent (expensive) rather than on a first come first serve basis.

On balance, this was an exceptional experience and the hotel was beyond amazing.
