Went on an incentive trip to GW. This is our 6th trip to the resort since it opened. It is a very impressive propery with an awesome pool and beach. The drinks are very expensive $15 for umbrella drinks, best advice is buy the plastic pineapple cup in the pool bar for $22 then refills are only $15 but its double size for the same money. Ask for Linda in the bar near the pool and Richie is awesome in the swim up cave car.

My husband and I recently stayed at the GW for a professional conference/vacation. The property grounds are gorgeous however, the hotel adds on daily charges for common services. Beware that you must valet your car for $30.00 per day, there is also a $25.00 daily resort fee, as well as a baggage fee on check in. It is quite distressing to go to the adult pool where there are only 2 umbrellas. These 2 umbrellas provide shade to a total of 6-7 poolside chairs. One afternoon two grown men actually had words with each regarding these precious umbrella chairs. . But of course you can pay an extra $500 per day for a cabana. Who in their right mind would spring an extra $500.00 for a cabana when you are paying that for your room????????? Interestingly there are more cabanas to rent than regular beach chairs. The management should realize than many adults do not want continuous sun exposure and should have more than 2 umbrellas available at the adult pool. But of course you can cool down with a Pina Colada at the pool for only $14.00 ( what a bargain). That is if you can get a hold of the only server that would occasionally come to the adult pool area. The pool bathrooms were dirty and trash was overflowing. I also found it ridiculous to have to go to a outdoor pool service desk every day to get a different wrist band put on just to use the pool or get a beach towel.Totally classless. On the day we arrived we went to the beach and asked for a beach chair. Well, they have a limited amount of beach chairs and were full. The beach person told us that we could go on a waiting list for a chair and that they would call if one opened. At that point we should of cut our losses and just checked in next door and walked to the daily meeting. When you add up all the daily costs you are much better off staying next door at the wonderful and classy Four Seasons which prides itself on service. And guess what next door at the Four Seasons cabanas are included at no extra price and they go out of their way to make sure you have a chair, umbrella, or cabana. Drinks are just as expensive, but they have ample waiters who pamper you. Also housekeeping at the GW would show up between 6-7 pm for turndown service. This was annoying because we were just getting back from the pool, or beach. We were not the only guests who had this happen nightly. We joked that they did this on purpose because guests would tell them please come back later and they only did once. The Grand Wailea is loud, expensive, impersonal, and overrated. We had prevlously attended a professional conference at GW about 10 years ago and had to go back to the same meeting this year. It seemed better 10 years ago. If you are going to get nickel and dimed and pay top dollar ......go next door where you end up paying the same but will have a great vacation!!! The Four Seasons will find you a cabana, beach chair, umbrella, and bring you bottled water , fresh fruit, and at least it is all included. There is no comparison.

Room Tip: Go next door to the Four Seasons instead.

Aloha from Grand Wailea. We are grateful for the feedback from this reviewer. We’re sorry that this guest was not provided with reasonable answers and feel that with the correct information at hand; they would have enjoyed their stay much more. We will certainly review how important information is relayed to guests so that they don't leave with the same impression as this valued guest.

For example, as in most hotels, guests who are attendees of a convention group have negotiated rates, that often include a discounted room rate as well as contracted housekeeping and bellmen gratuities. The group's event organizers are expected to inform their invited guests of these fees in advance so that won't be any confusion and we are very sorry if this guest did not know about these charges in advance.

One important piece of information we'd like to share with you is regarding the pool wristband and beach chair policies. Our pools and slides are a big attraction on Maui. We do all we can to maintain the exclusivity of our pools for the enjoyment of our paying guests. If we did not, our pools would be overrun by non-guests. One way that we ensure our pools are only used by our guests is a wristband policy. We do require our guests to stop by our pool activity desk and obtain a wristband. The wristbands easily identify who is a guest and who is not. A wrist band is also required for our beach chair service for the same reason. The beach fronting Grand Wailea, as well as virtually all natural beaches in Hawaii, is a public beach and under the jurisdiction of The State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources. We stringently adhere to the DLNR’s rules governing our use of this beach. In particular, we are limited in the space we have available to us to set up beach chairs for our guests. We utilize a system of first come, first served in obtaining a beach chair. We do require that guests stop at our beach cart to sign out a chair and umbrella to be set up by our beach staff. When all equipment has been signed out, or as has been the case over the past few weeks due to unusually high surf, when we run out of space, we work off a wait list, advising waiting guests that a chair has opened up. This is facilitated by another DLNR rule that requires that we time and remove chairs that are left unattended for more than 30 minutes.

Our stay on your property was absolutely incredible and first class all the way, from the traditional greeting upon arrival by the staff, food at Alan Wong's Amasia and humuhumunukunukuapua'a; to learning about the islands and seeing sea turtles through our Outrigger tour and, of course, family fun and sun by the all the interesting pools. The open ceiling floor plan of the lobby and lobby bar, that includes live entertainment, also provides a nice set/relaxing precursor to the evening's activities. Would certainly recommend Maui in your future travels and, in doing so, highly recommend a stay at the Grand Wailea.

Simple rooms, simple furnishings, no draperies, no bedcovers, very plain decoration. Some rooms get no sunshine any time of the day, ask for one facing the sunset, they are more expensive though. The reception is not friendly, the greeting upon arrival is poor, the porterage is included into the price but not offered unless you ask for it. They try to place you into the worst room possible in the same category, even though you know for fact the rooms in the same category are available, because the barman says to you they are expecting two aircrafts which are delayed.. Complaining does not help much if the resort is busy. The service deteriorated over past 3 years. Upon check out the porterage charge of $10 was included into the bill 4 times, in reality delivered only once. The restaurants are OK but extremely overpriced, the wine by the glass was $20. You are better off going out but you need a car for that. Parking is not included, prepare to pay $30/day plus tax. There is no place to eat after 10 pm, even bar has no finger food. You need to have a car, otherwise without Hawaiian sightseeing your experience is similar to MIami beach just the flight is erxtremely long from the East Coast. The beach is nice but there is sometimes a waiting list for a chair and umbrella. Overall, there was no feeling of Waldorf Astoria service.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing sunset, otherwise you may get a room in the wing facing North, and there will...

I have been planning this trip for over a year. I started reading reviews about 6 weeks ago & was getting nervous, relax! This resort was absolutely beautiful!!! My room looked just like the pictures only better. I asked for a ocean view room and was it ever!!!! The bathroom was huge, great shower, spa tub, it was outstanding! The cafes & bistro were very expensisve but the food was great. Really I have no complaints at all, I would certainly stay there again.
