“3rd time here and we'll be back again”
Reviewed August 30, 2011

I can't say enough about this resort. The place is amazing. The staff is top notch; everyone here goes out of their way to accommodate you. They are knowledgeable, pleasant, and service oriented and always have a smile for you...from the people at the entrance giving you your complimentary leis, to the front desk, to the restaurant workers, to the maintenence crew. This was our 3rd time here, and the first without teenage children. We were shocked when we were upgraded to the Napua Tower..a resort within the resort. The Napua is accessible by key entry only to those guests staying on that floor. Breakfast and Cocktail hour complete with hor d'oerves such as crab cakes, chicken strips, full-on fruit and cheese and vegetable platters among other delicious appetizers are included in the stay in the Napua Tower. Unlimited wine, beer, spirits and soda available as well. Most nights we didn't even go to dinner after cocktail hour because we filled up there. You can imagine how much money that saved us! I have no idea how much per night the Napua is, since the prices are not listed. But it didn't cost us a penny! Even had we not been upgraded to the Napua, I would still be ranting about this place. We stayed here twice before and each time were upgraded to an ocean view room. The rooms are spacious, clean and nicely decorated. The bathrooms are huge and beautiful The pools are amazing; the grounds are amazing; the beach is one of the nicest on Maui...and after 3 visits to the island and day trips to every inch of it, I feel I am qualified to say that. Wailea is the more upscale, quiet side of the island compared to the West and unless you want constant business (which we don't) it is hands down the best side of the island to stay. Even the times we stayed with the teenagers, they loved the Grand Wailea. Between the first and 3rd times we stayed, they have done alot of renovations to the whole place. The lobby is an amazing experience in itself. We didn't go to the hotel luau, although you can sit around on the lounge chairs on the grounds and watch it for free without the food. (Having been to other luaus, I will say this one does seem to be pretty boring). We have stayed here in April, June, and October and the place is so huge, it never seemed crowed. I have read other reviews that said beach chairs were scarce, and that may be so in the highest season (umm...everywhere...it's the peak season!) but we never once had trouble getting beach chairs or pool chairs. Like any vacation area, if you want the prime pool/beach locations, you need to get down there early to pick the best spots. Never once in our 3 visits did we feel crowded. And I will tell you, I hate crowds...which is the reason we vacation in the off seasons. I would suggest that you self park unless you have no problem paying $25/day plus tip for valet. The parking garage is on the outer edge of the hotel, and depending on which wing you are staying in can be a short stroll or a pretty good hike! But the grounds of the resort are so gorgeous, even if you are on the other side of the place, it is a beautiful walk. The restaurants are OK. Humu's is gorgeous, and the food is wonderful, but completely overpriced. We ate there once because with the upgrade to Napua we received a $40 coupon so we thought we would try it. Molikini Bistro is actually very good..casual poolside/ocean view dining (great at sunset). On our first 2 visits we didn't care for it at all, but last time here it was quite good; new chef and new menu. Reasonably priced...for Maui. Prepare to over pay for anything you eat anywhere on the island. All in all, we are extremely fond of Maui, and we are planning another stay at the Grand Wailea within the next year or two.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade! We loved our oceanview room in the chapel wing the first time we stayed.

We stayed here on our honeymoon for a week and were impressed with the hotel but less than satisfied with the front desk. The front desk manager Roberto was less than accommodating when we inquired about the amenities we are used to receiving, as diamond Hilton honors members, such as the use of the concierges lounge and breakfast. Roberto informed us that they are not really part of the Hilton association and do not grant the normal Hilton honors amenities. This was conveyed in a more matter of fact way without any discourse in our disappointment. The irony here is that we called before booking our trip and the hotel informed us that we will receive the normal amenities as diamond members. We honestly choose this hotel because we enjoy the amenities we typically receive with Hilton and Marriott properties. My husband and I both travel for work constantly and have never dealt with such a lack of customer service. After exploring the island for the week we highly recommend staying at the Fairmont.

It was our family's first experience Hawaii, much less Maui. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our 3 kids (ages 17, 12, 7) enjoyed the waterpark, especially the 7-yr old on the rope swing. This resort doesn't compare when it comes to water entertainment. Yes, there seem to be fees that others don't have but is worth it. You are building wonderful memories with your family. We rented a cabana for the 1st day of our 3-night stay. Well worth it as the other days, we had to get a spot that wasn't previosly marked with towels as token. I will say that security does it's best to keep track of loungers that have been saved but not present. The bar service was pretty prompt. My husband & I enjoyed a duo massage & absoluely recommend the escape with any service from SpaGrande or Salon. For breakfast, we dined at the Cafe. It's like breakfast on the go but with a beautfiul terrace to sit. You get the most for your valuable buck if you stay & take full advantage of the waterpark facilities. It's a tough call if you have tour stops to make when the kids are having so much fun in the water. The beach is right there, no stairs to get to the beach. Sunsets look like a photo backdrop. The grounds are absolutely beautfiful. If you aren't worried about cost, I would most likely visit again with1/2 the stay here & other 1/2 at Four Seasons.

My son and I just spent eight days at the beautiful Grand Wailea and had a wonderful trip. The resort grounds are gorgeous with new surprises around every corner. We expected the hotel to be beautiful (and it was) but what we didn't expect was how comfortable and relaxed we would feel there. It was Grand but not so grand that we couldn't feel at home. The staff was friendly and accomodating. Rose Sumibcay, the lei greeter was an especially sweet lady. She always greeted my son and I by name and took some great pictures of us, one of which will probably be our Christmas card picture. It was difficult for us to keep from packing her up and taking her home with us! All in all a fabulous trip, the only regret is that they didn't give me my rewards points because the trip was booked through an agent.

Belong to the Hotel Kulana members. Best workout facility on the island, Spa is one of the best in the world and the staff is great. The 9 pools with water slides are located right on the beach with the most beautiful grounds you will ever see. Come and enjoy.

Check in was smooth with an easy registration and the bellman ready to go with our luggage. Overall, the facility was very nice. We didn't eat on-site as we were already familiar with the area and had a car. The pool scene is a bit of a zoo and hard to enjoy. People would stake out their chairs at dawn and there was no place to sit by noon. The water park is the big draw, and it was fun, but the thrill wore off quickly for our teenagers.

We had stayed next door at the Wailea Beach Villas. There was no comparison. The Wailea Beach Villas rule!

We stayed here for an anniversary celebration and found the property to be among the best we have stayed at. The staff were very warm and welcome, the property was clean, location was outstanding. We do suggest you rent a car so you can drive around the island.
