“Nothing else is close in Santa Rosalia!!”
Reviewed December 22, 2007

This little hotel just south of town is a jewel. The casitas (small cabins) are large, spotlessly clean tiled construction. The decor is a bit austere but comfortable. Our king size bed was a bit firm for our taste, but the bedding is new and clean. All units have a beautiful view of the Sea of Cortez.
The complex does not have a restaurant, so you will need a car. The hotel has wireless high speed internet which worked fine in unit 7a, but I understand is a little spotty in some of the other units. Business travelers we met while in town all commented that Las Casitas was far and away their first choice in accommodation in Santa Rosalia.

  • Liked — The setting.
  • Disliked — It would have been nice to have at least a continental breakfast.

I stayed in Las Casitas hotel with my wife for a night. Our room was very big, it was actually a "casita" (little house). The hotel is located on a cliff over the Sea of Cortez 3 kms. south of Santa Rosalia. The hotel is easy to find but its driveway is quite dangerous, as there is not enough visibility when you try to cross the Transpeninsular highway.

The room was very clean, it had a little patio with a balcony, but there was some garbage over the cliff. The hotel has no cafeteria and it is not a good option if you are not driving.

Our stay at the Las Casitas in Santa Rosalia was great! The rooms were clean, simple and roomy. Bottled water was provided. The view of the Sea of Cortez was breathtaking! The view alone made the stay worth it. Make sure to enjoy the boats lights just off shore when the squid fishing boats go out at night.

I would recommend bringing an ice chest since refrigerators are not provided. If you are looking for a slow and relaxing fishing town, you found it!

Enjoy,
Sam

I stayed at the Las Casitas in Santa Rosalia (on south edge of town) for 6 days in late August. My room (#5) had a king sized bed in a brand new room, on a low bluff overlooking the Sea or Cortez. Four big picture windows give a panoramic display of the water including the harbor and Tortuga island. The downside is that the sunrises won't let you sleep in. It also has a private patio overlooking the water. The other rooms share a patio. All rooms have wireless internet and in-room coffee. I learned later that the governor of Baja Sur stays in that room when he's in town. Room #5 has two bathrooms. For $55/night, this is hard to beat but no credit cards and it's small so email ahead for reservations [--]. Tell Brenda and the puppy dog that Steve sent you.

  • Liked — new, view, size, cleaniness
  • Disliked — no credit cards
  • Tips/Secrets — all rooms are good but #5 is spectacular. Try the Playa Negra restuarant in town for scallops in garlic sauce.
