“Colonial Style still remains here”

Good location in centre of town, views from west facing rooms are best. Some rooms are noisy from folk on the street. rooms we had were huge, very spacious , superb bathroom. Good furniture & beds were fine . We ate in the hotel for breakfast & evening meals on 2 days we stayed & I can recommend Paella . No compliants about food , not cheap however, wine was not worth drinking, but go up to the rooof terrace to get great cocktails & see the sun set over the town & watch the stars come out. !

Room Tip: Ask for room not on the road , facing west.

We stayed here for one night with our 4 year old son. We loved the hotel, it's lovely and airy with a good size pool in the courtyard which our son enjoyed! We found the service to be good and staff friendly. We had a huge room and a huge bed.
The only down side was that it was slightly noisy because of the bar on the street outside.
Cienfuegos was an interesting town to visit, it had a different feel from other parts of Cuba. We enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend this hotel.

A very charming hotel that was the best one we stayed in while in Cuba. It's old, but still maintains an elegance. Not in perfect shape, but still a treat. Lovely pool, courtyards and general decor. The downside is that is noisy and the rooms are on the dark side. The staff was helpful and friendly. The internet connection was unbelievably slow. It took 24 minutes to get a connection and I had only 6 minutes left on my card to do my e-mail. I only wanted to write one to my husband, and fortunately, did get one off before my time was finished.

I only had one night in Cienfuegos, and would have very much liked to stay in this charming spot longer.

Room Tip: Try to get an inside room not close to the disco.

We booked a Junior Suite, which was really a big room. The location is perfect, the hotel is in the middle of the centre. Swimming pool is nice. Hotel shows its ages but for Cuban standards it was a good and charming hotel. Staff was also friendly.

I stayed here for 2 nights en route from Havana to Trinidad. This is an excellent location on the pedestrian street one side with the main square just down the road, although there is not a great deal to see in Cienfuegos. However, I really liked the atmosphere of the town.

I was booked into a Junior Suite but for some reason was given the largest Suite in the hotel. This was on the top floor around the whole corner of the building. It was very impressive but rather a waste of space. The living room was like a ballroom with several sofas and tables and chairs dotted around and three balconies (although only two of the doors would open and those with some difficulty). The bedroom was also massive with another balcony. Big downside to this palatial suite was the nightclub down the road. It wasn't actually the music from the nightclub that was the problem - it was the people leaving it between 3.00 - 4.00 a.m. - lots of shouting and noisy cars. However, as I had read about this before leaving UK and was only there for 2 nights, I managed!

The swimming pool area was absolutely lovely and never very busy - a bit mean I thought to charge extra for pool towels. The rooftop terrace was very nice but, unfortunately, when I was there, I was often the only person up there, so somewhat lacking in atmosphere. They could do a lot more with this to make it more atmospheric.

As mentioned by another reviewer, I would criticise the cleaning of the floors in the rooms. If I walked around without shoes my feet were black in two minutes.

Breakfast was adequate - not great - but enough for me.

All the staff were lovely - so altogether an enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: If you are worried about noise ask for a room away from the main street.

Very large rooms. was renovated a few years ago, but lost its colonial atmosphere. clean and comfortable but with little character. at 120$ a night, it is too expensive. balcony doors would not open.

La Union is well located in Cienfuegos, close to just about everything. That's the good news. The bad news? It can be a noisy place, particularly when the disco is pumpin'. Nevertheless, the place has so much charm, beautifully appointed public spaces, a rooftop bar (great views at night of the cathedral dome and central plaza), a nice swimming pool, and adequate restaurant breakfast.

Room Tip: If you want quiet, ask for a room that doesn't overlook the main street or the disco.
