“Disappointingly average despite the effort”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

A nice enough restaurant in the backstreets off the Malecon, but didn't live up to the expectations that the Lonely Planet, and this website, had set. The waiting staff were attentive, but often to the point of grovelling, and while the food was good (beautifully garlicky chicken and a decent fish fillet) it was nothing more than that. Cocktails were delicious and generous, but the waiters' imploring to rank them highly on TripAdvisor probably had the opposite effect.

“Little Gem in a city full of bad restaurants!”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

Before our recent trip to Cuba we were told that the food would be bad; not in this one! When you do some effort to make a good search and ask around, there are a lot of good places to eat to find. Especially the 'Paladares' (privately owned restaurants, rare in Cuba) generally put more effort in their business.

Same goes for Paladar Ache, located on Avenida 38 No 4106 e/ 41 y 43 in Cienfuegos. We got there as a couple and were welcomed at the entrance by the staff like if we've been customers for years. The food, from starters to desserts, was very good and a welcome variation on the state-restaurants in Cuba, all for a very decent price. The service was very friendly from beginning to end; nothing was too much for the staff, they made you feel at home and they also did their best to advice you on what to take and explain something about the food. They were very good in creating nice cocktails. In the end, they also arranged a taxi for us back to the hotel.

If we wouldn't be on a round trip, we'd certainly eat there again and we also advice other travellers to try this place! Well done Paladar Ache!

I rarely experienced such an attentive and lovely service ever. They treat you like a star. you feel like in a five star gourmet restaurant. The best food we we had in Cuba. Definitively worth going.

“Wonderful all around - food, atmosphere, and especially service!”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

Paladar Ache was by far our favorite meal in Cienfuegos. It was such a great experience that we went back twice! The food (especially the shrimp entrees) were well prepared, the drinks were well made, the restaurant is beautifully decorated, but most of all the service was outstanding! We were waited on by "Castillo", and after two meals there we had grown very attached to him. He was such a delightful, good-hearted person. Every waiter there was attentive and obviously loved working at Ache (a welcome change from the servers at the government run restaurants). Please support this restaurant - they do a great job and treat their employees very well.
