“One night not enough”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

Having visited Vinales and the cave, as well as the beautiful valley with it's tobacco farms, purchasing cigars, and lunch for us and our guide, my wife and I arrived in Cienfuegos by Viazul, just after the Cadeca ( money exchange house ) closed, on April 3/2013. We had used up all of our cucs and didn't have enough to pay for the taxi from the bus station to Manolo's and Marta's. No problemo, they assured us. They took care of the fare and simply added it to our tab, thereby saving us from an embarrassing situation. The Cadeca is about thirty seconds from their home, so the next morning I was able to restock our supply of cucs. We had the first room around the side of the casa, which is very comfortable. The workmanship in the shower is superb, and there is no need to hurry, as the supply of hot water is sufficient. We actually watched TV for the only time, in this room, during our Cuban visit. There was a baseball game in progress, and baseball is the same in any language. Just when you think that Cuban cooking can't get any better, considering the tasty meals that we had prior to now, Marta offered up a supper that tantalized the taste buds, not to mention breakfast the next morning. The one disappointing thing about our stay here is that it was only one day. Should we re-visit Cienfuegos, we will book into the Casa de Manolo well in advance. This was our number 1 casa in Cuba.
Many thanks Manolo and Marta

My two travelling companions and I spent four nights at Casa Manolo. A lovely place to stay in a very interesting city. Marta, Manolo and especially their daughter Claudia and her husband Bayan, made our stay great, particularly the excellent food. Rooms were quiet, clean, well appointed and all had their own bathrooms. Cienfuegos is a beautiful city and there are many attractions in the surrounding areas. Manolo and his family helped us to find transport to town and also great drivers and cars to more far-flung places such as the beach at Rancho Luna, to the mountains and the beautiful waterfalls at El Nicho, an early morning visit to Laguna Guanaroca to see the flamingos feeding in the early light followed by a visit to the Botanical Gardens nearby. Their house is in a quiet street where vendors ply their fresh fruit and vegetables and the 24 hour Medical Centre for tourists is just around the corner (nice to know though we didn't need it). It is a pleasant stroll down to the end of the Punta Gorda in the evening or a 5 minute bicycle taxi ride in the other direction to the city. Manolo and his family all speak excellent English (can't say the same for our Spanish!). They went out of their way to talk with us about Cuba, its history and life. Highly recommended, an excellent place to stay.

Room Tip: The middle one is bigger as it has a double bed and a single bed.

We did not particularly enjoy the city of Cienfuegos, but definitely appreciated to stay in this Casa particular.
Very hearty welcome, and helpful family - 25 CUC/night, 5CUC/breakfast (though they first announced 4CUC), 1CUC for parking place in their premises. Excellent and varied breakfast.

I was in Cienfuegos for a month, studying Spanish in the university of Cienfuegos. This was an ideal house to stay in for this purpose - the bus from right near the house goes directly through town to the uni. Everyone in the family was extremely friendly, helpful, attentive and accommodating; food (breakfast and dinner each day) was beautifully prepared and tasty, with no problems at all caused by my being a vegetarian. The room was clean and well furnished, with en suite bathroom and TV. In addition to all the short-stay tourists, i would certainly recommend anyone doing more than the usual few days tourist passing through Cienfuegos to consider this as a good place to stay.

Room Tip: The room at the back has the TV!

My husband and I visited five towns in Cuba and this one was by far the best and the most hospitable. It was very clean, the food was excellent and the owners were very helpful in guiding us to and around Cienfuegos. Marta and Manolo and their daughter,Claudia go out of their way to make the visit to their home memorable. Manolo is hoping to add a small pool in the future.

We, a group of two couples and two sisters, stayed at the hospitable Casa de Manolo and Marta for two nights recently and enjoyed our stay very much. Everything was to our satisfaction, including the breakfast every morning. I can recommend the Case de Manolo without reservation.
You will not be disappointed. Norbert A. Wetzel

Room Tip: Two rooms are on the ground floor, one is upstairs. All perfectly suited for a good rest after sight...
