A well worth visit, swimming in fresh water pools diving off waterfalls, seeing local wildlife humming birds, the national bird Tocororo, a great rest from the city visits.

A must see place! We went there with a local taxi driver, and paid a small entrance fee (however, nobody asked for an ID). There are organized trips from the resorts, with a lunch and guide included. I think, it is better to go on your own as all trails are clearly marked. One of the trails takes you to another side of the mountain where you get a view on the valley beneath, and over there we saw a colibri. Be aware that the waterfall water is extremely cold to swim in, but may be you are adventurous enough. Don't forget, that on the other side of the road (before the park entrance) there is another trail along the river and it's cascades. It is free of charge (because outside of the park) and warmer to swim in the ponds.

El nicho is beautiful and well worth the trip through the mountains. However, there aren't any busses going so you will need to go by car or taxi.
Once you get there you will have to pay a small fee for entering the park. After that you can enjoy swimming in the cold water springs, enjoy the waterfalls and walk your way up to the top.

It was chilly in the morning when we got there but warmed up quickly. We swan in two spots- the water was cold but it was just too beautiful to pass up.
We went with some locals and were able to explore without a timeframe. I could've easily spent a full day there. I hope I make it back again soon!!

Visiting El Nicho Waterfalls was a beautiful excursion. It is about an hour drive from Cienfuegos and the drive itself is an adventure. I hired a private taxi to give me flexibility in the time spent at El Nicho. It was an easy hike to the waterfalls...those with knee issues or angina, however, may find the steps a bit steep to maneuver. Go slow and take your time. The admission was $8CUC and picture ID is required like passport or driver's license that must be shown to the park attendant. The waterfall and pool under the waterfall was picturesque and very refreshing to swim in. Local attendants are at the pool and for a tip they will guide you farther along the hiking trail. I wouldn't have seen as much of El Nicho without my guide's assistance. Wonderful experience.
