There are three waterfalls during this tour of the El Nicho parkland. The first and the last are the most memorable. I recommend shoes which are comfortable and aren't likely to slip on wet surfaces. You amble for about 10 minutes through tropical flora brimming with flowers, plants, lizards, birds etc. The guides are very knowledgeable and speak a number of languages, our guide spoke English and German. The pace is quite comfortable and the guides insist that you take as many photos and walk as it suits you. We very much took advantage of this - if you are a keen amateur photographer, you are going to want a macros lens, normal portrait lens and maybe a wide angle lens for the water falls.
After a short walk you get to the first waterfall which is by far the tallest. To memory there is not a convenient place to swim but you'll be bathed in water from quite a distance anyway. The clear water and bright green plants make for a picturesque setting. After this there is a little climb towards the second waterfall which is quite short (more of a running water bath) and an area to swim. There were quite a few people here when we were walking passed.
The main attraction is about 15 minutes from here uphill (not steep but if you're very out of shape, you may be tested). This is a great area to swim and you can climb the rocks while the water beats down on you from the waterfall overhead. The water is COLD but just suck it up and jump in. There is a modest changing area in a 'cave' area but you'll probably want (trustworthy) to hang up a towel in order to protect your modesty.
Overall a great experience. There is a restaurant and bar back towards the entrance where you can easily get lunch. The guides encourage tips - in fact we were asked for one. They are very knowledgeable as I said, friendly and keen to take photos of you and show you around various look out points and make a memorable journey for you. All in all, they earn it.
We got here via CubaTours which also took us via another town so that we could look at views from the hills etc. They are quite organised, arrange for tickets and the car was quite comfortable. They will also show you through towns in the nearby area if there is enough time. Lunch was also included in our tour too.
