Samuel's doesn't look like much from the outside and even the hallways give the vibe of an old motel. However, the room was fantastic. Very clean and very friendly. The menu at the Bistro is refreshing, with classic and unique items. Great service. I feel that we paid too much for what we got, but it was good enough.

Room Tip: Try to get a riverside view. The road view is very dissapointing.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay. I wish we could have the river on both sides of our hotel with amazing views on either side, but as such we charge less for the village side rooms than the riverside and have recently planted more trees in front that will grow quickly! Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our Boutique hotel.

Very clean, quiet and comfortable! 5-minute car ride to the beach or downtown. A/C seemed a little noisy at first but we got used to it quickly. Make sure you get a riverside room or you'll have a view of the parking lot (which isn't that bad as parking lots go).

Thank you for taking time to write a review of our Boutique hotel. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and will look forward to your return in the future. If you would kindly email me your room number, I would like to check the A/C unit. They are actually very quiet so perhaps there was an issue I'm unaware of in the room you stayed in. If the A/C unit is off when we enter the room we wouldn't know one was acting up in any way unless a guest mentioned it to us. Thanks again!

We have a cottage on Lake Huron north of the Samuels Hotel and were delighted when we say that Thursday nights are Sushi Night. I had the mushroom and asparagus roll, after a delightful artichoke dip and naan, and others had the clam chowder, satay chicken and the smoked salmon roll. To finish off a delicious meal, we shared the chocolate truffle cake. What a wonderful addition to what Goderich has to offer!

I'm glad you discovered our Summer Sushi night, and enjoyed your meal. We will be serving sushi every Thursday night all summer long. We are also planning a 'pop up' sushi night here and there during the fall and winter. It's great to see people enjoying our patio and garden room. Be sure and stop by another day for our regular, house made Bistro menu. Open 11:30-8:30 daily.
Thanks for taking the time to write a review of our Summer Sushi night.

My wife and I always stay at Ontario's Finest Inns whenever we have an opportunity to travel. We recently tried Samuels for a change of pace. The hotel is clean, has good beds, friendly staff and has recently been renovated. It was a motel in its previous lifetime from the looks of the layout...one floor, one long hallway. After enjoying other inns in the Ontario's Finest Inns group there are a few things we did not expect. The tailgate party in the parking lot for two nights was a bit off putting.....cooking with a gas barbq on the truckbed over the gas tank. OMG. Needless to say we kept our heavy drapes fully closed in case of an explosion. The nagahide couch in the room was very uncomfortable and we kept slipping off onto the floor. There was also no proper reading light(s), just two very small bulbs in the lights beside the bed. Another dangerous fixture was the glass wall between the toilet and shower. Hit my head a few times.....needs some stripping so you know its there. Shower also leaks all over bath floor onto the hardwood (hardwood in the bath?).
If you like an upscale motel for a night this place fits the bill. If you are a VIP member of the group do your research and take nothing for granted. Motels in the area are likely half the price with just your basic room.

Room Tip: Better value at other spots in the area. Do your homework. Wish I had taken a picture of the tailga...

Thank you for your input re your recent visit to Samuels. Ontario's Finest Inns hires a third party to do their rigorous quality controls, Braymark, using standards that OFI sets up. Their standards are the same as they have been for years. We were honoured to pass with flying colours and appreciate our association with OFI.
The builiding was previously a century schoolhouse and in 1967 an addition was added to become a banquet hall. In 2010 we purchased the building, gutted and refurbished into the hotel you see today.
It's always great to know where we can improve, and we take note of your kind suggestions.
I am sorry to hear that the quiet gentlemen, on the village side of the hotel, bothered you, on the riverside, in any way. While we do not allow any bbqs on the private terraces, it is alright to bbq on the far end of the parking lot, away from other guest rooms, or in the lawn away from the hotel.
We always appreciate hearing about any guest issues during their stay, rather than after the fact as we are happy to make any amendment possible while a guest is staying with us.

We definitely enjoyed our one night stay. We were able to check in an hour and a half early which was unexpected but very much appreciated. A plate of fresh cupcakes were just brought out for guests, however having just had some treats from Culbert's Bakery we were full! The river view king room was spotless and nicely decorated. The bed was quite comfortable, and there was a nice red leather couch as well. No carpets, which is so nice to see. There were two chairs and a small table outside the room overlooking the river, very peaceful with dividers between rooms for some privacy. Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, pastries, very good coffee, a good selection of light breakfast foods. We enjoyed our breakfast outside on the patio. Overall, a great stay and will definitely come back.

Room Tip: Riverview rooms are best, with the others facing the parking lot.

We stayed at the Samuels Hotel during the May 2013 long weekend. The hotel is located in a great location right outside of the city. The room had 2 comfortable double beds. It was well kept and clean. The breakfast spread was more than I expected with fresh fruit and other pastry treats. The staff members were professional, warm and friendly. They helped to provide information about the area and they were good with directions. I would return to this property again.

The room was fresh, wonderfully decorated and outfitted with most of the comforts of home such as a mini-fridge and fireplace. I would definately stay there again! The only thing that would make the hotel 5 star would be the addition of pool/hot tub facilities.
