We had fish and chips at Lane's Privateer Inn. Nice setting on the river and the fish was very fresh and good. Reasonably priced.

“Ruth's Favorite Restaurant.”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

The restaurant is predictably excellent but if you want a taste of Nova Scotia, order their fried clams. My 5 year old granddaughter loved them.

We usually sit in the Library but there are options. When the weather is fine, ask to be seated on the patio overlooking the Mersey River or for casual dining, try the tavern. The main dining room is lovely although overlooking the road. As we live for the summer in Liverpool, we eat at Lane's regularly. It is our favorite restaurant in town.

“I will never go back to this restaurant”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

We came to the restaurant on a Sunday. We were told we would have to eat where the pub is instead of the restaurant because of a wedding.
We ordered split pea soup and fish and chips. After 20 minutes, they brought a small cup of salty burned soup. Then we waited and waited. We told waiter we are leaving and we will pay for the soup but he said our order was ready. By this time it had been another half hour .The fish and chips were not too great either.
Waiter said they were busy because of the wedding.
If they were so busy, then they should have closed the pub and have the wedding only. It is unacceptable to wait 50 minutes to get a meal.

“Excellent Time”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

We were in Liverpool the night of June 15 and had reservations in the restaurant. Having endured 2 weeks of rain in Halifax, upon arrival we changed our plans to the pub so we could eat out doors. It was absolutely enjoyable and relaxing with great food and excellent local (Hell Bay) beer. Granted service was slow but we were in no hurry so this translated into a time to relax and enjoy. To top it off, service was great!
I strongly recommend this place for a nice dinner with great food, drink and service!

“Thanks Fred!”

Great lunch happened upon here. Soups to salads to fries.... Yum. Service was friendly and informative, as inquisitive newcomers to the area as we were. Gazing at the nearby scallop boat provoked conversation about the town: struggling yet growing. Stop here for a meal if passing by; brunch maybe!
