“A good return visit”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

We ate here in 2001 and decided to go again this year. When we arrived it was obvious that they were busy and reservations were necessary; however, the friendly hostess took good care of us and got us to a table and we had very good cod and salmon dinners. We like the atmosphere here and would go again, this time with reservations.

“We Returned the Next Night!!”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

We arrived here at 9:00pm, this person came by and was so rude in how she told us the kitchen was closed at 9:00. There were five of us and we were blown away by her attitude. Placentia don't have very many restaurants so we decided to go back again the next night. Almost ran into the same thing we were rushed in so that they could get off work at 8:00pm. I don't understand there are hundreds of people in town for Come Home Year and they are turning people away. They should make their hay when the sun is shining. The waitress that served during our second visit was really nice and accommodating although we did feel pressured to be out of there by 8:00 or shortly after. The food was good.

“Tried to et in”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

Tried to get into this restaurant on a recent trip but our Sunday night visit didn't work out since they were too busy. Reservations may be a good idea. A review of the menu shows it is typical pub food. Since there are few other options in placentia I would suggest a try

“Nothing Special”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

We were kind of surprised that we had to make a reservation to eat at a pub that was not crowded. Our waitress was very slow and obviously forgot about our table because the table next to us got their food way before us even though they were seated after us and ordered at least 10 minutes after us.

The French onion soup is full of moderately cooked onions (i.e. they could have cooked them longer for a fuller flavor and a softer texture), messy cheese that was melted in the soup and not on top of it like traditional French onion soup is usually made and an awesome small wedge of garlic bread.

The sandwiches (i.e. beef) are very large and were good (good, not anything special) and come with a side like baked potato, fries, or mashed potatoes. I made the mistake of getting a baked potato which seemed like it was microwaved, not baked.

I'm not sure what all of the fuss is about except for the fact there aren't many choices in town but this is certainly not a fabulous restaurant, but rather an average pub with average food. It's fine for something casual and it's not fancy although it's a bit pricey (as are most restaurants in NL).

The fish and chips are probably the way to go here.

“Good Food and Cold Beer”
Reviewed June 16, 2012

Okay, the service wasn't screaming fast, but we weren't in a rush, so it didn't bother us too much. They make their own salad dressings (we had a delicious mustard vinagrette) and the codfish tongues seemed really fresh. They also make a tasty dressing for their cold turkey sandwich. The "sisters" were friendly and took our stuffed monkey "Eddy" to heart.
