“excellent hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2012

My husband and I spent one night recently and where overwhelmed by the great location, and excellent staff. The hotel is next to the river and has fantastic views. Its perfectly located to everything you would want to see or do in natchez. I plan to visit again as soon as our schedules will allow.

Room Tip: we did not choose to get a balcony room but from seeing them from the outside, next visit I will.

On our way back from a roadtrip to Washingtong DC we stayed two nights in Natchez, MS. We chose Natchez from a timing perspective (eight hours driving time from home), and that it is a historic town on the Mississippi River. Unfortunately there are no great accomodation options in Natchez. The Natchez Grand Hotel is the "least bad" of the accomodations left in town from what we could gather after investigating on the internet and staying there confirmed out initial thoughts. The rooms did have a river view and were connecting which is what we requested. The hotel remined me of an assisted living center or nursing home. The carpets going up the stairs are very dirty and I had to resist the urge to ask for a vacuum cleaner. The staff was not friendly. They were not rude, just indifferent and seemed a bit "bothered." The breakfast is over early so you need to get down fast. We have four children and after getting there 30 minutes before closing time were surprised there was no food. The staff did bring food out but very little and seemed very bothered about having to do it. The second morning there was plenty of food and a different person bringing it out with the great Southern hospitality one would expect. After seeing the Natchez Eola (I had stayed there many years ago) I would say we made the right choice. If you are going to stay in Natchez, don't expect great hotel accomodations, and go to the Natchez Grand Hotel

Room Tip: Choose a room with view of the Mississippi River. If you want connecting rooms, they are only availa...

Thank you so much for taking the time to express your comments about our hotel. We appreciate your positive remarks regarding the view of the river and your fulfilled request of the adjoining rooms. We apologize for your concerns about breakfast. We do our best to communicate occupancy levels with our kitchen staff. Based on occupancy, the kitchen staff determines the amount of food to prepare and cook over a 3 hour period, which takes much more time and preparation than a traditional style continental breakfast. Most weekday guests (especially during August) are traveling for business, which means the bulk of those guests are served very early in the morning. It sounds like your issue was observed the first morning and resolved on the second morning. Also, we strive to maintain cleanliness on a daily basis, and have implemented several renovations to maintain a modern, clean hotel since opening in 2008. Several areas of the hotel, particularly those of high-level walking traffic, have been converted from carpet to wooden floors. Other areas are certainly being reviewed and considered for renovations to provide the most clean, elegant environment possible. We hope you will return to Natchez again soon and allow us to give you a warm welcome as our returned guest.

Being a Natchez native I'm very familiar with the area itself. However, on a recent trip home I chose to stay at this hotel because it was fairly new compared to others available. It was also the most expensive and the worst hotel experience I ever had. I called an hour prior to arriving since I was traveling with a little one and the front desk person Anisa [--] told me that the room was available for check-in prior to 4pm. When I arrived the hotel staff was less than hospitable. No welcoming greeting, hellos, or anything. When attempting to check in Anisa tells me that she, who I'm guessing was Willie Mae [--], gave the room to another guest. I stated to her that I called an hour prior to my arrival and I ask if they generally do not communicate with each other, but never received a reply. My brother who was is a veteran inquired about discounts and was nonchalantly told "we don't just give discounts." Ironically there was a military event going on the weekend we stayed. He too felt the negatives of this front desk person. After waiting for almost 15 mins for an alternate room and experiencing much attitude from both front counter staff, we were finally checked-in. I attempted to discuss my concerns with Bo [--] the "manager" on duty, but was basically brushed off with zero display of concern for my expressions issues regarding my stay. If you enjoy paying premium rates for poor customer service, this is the hotel for you. While the hotel did offer a seemingly nice place to lay your head, it is indeed not enough quality for the dollar. The most friendliest people were those cleaning the hotel. Big kudos to Cora Lewis for making our stay comfortable despite the challenges received from desk clerks and management.

Thank you for sharing your concerns about your experience at the Natchez Grand Hotel. We understand the importance of providing a valuable experience to our guests, which is why we strive to provide excellent customer service, accommodations, and amenities that exceed expectations. We are glad that your impression of our cleaning staff was consistent with the quality of service you deserve. We apologize that your experience with the front desk seemingly fell short of our customer service standards. Though our check-in time is 4 p.m., we do our best to accommodate early check-in requests on a day-to-day basis, per the status of our housekeeping department. Rooms are reserved by type and typically are assigned a room number upon guest arrival. Therefore, we sincerely apologize for your wait due to any miscommunications or misunderstandings that occurred regarding the availability of your room when you called. We hope you will give us another chance to improve your satisfaction with our service during future visits to Natchez, MS.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel in Natchez in the summer of 2012 for one night. Though an apparently old building this is a pretty standard mid-rate hotel: it is clean, quiet and relatively modern. Despite the name and age the rooms are indistinguishable from what you might get at a mid-rate chain hotel, which is fine: the value is pretty solid for what you get. The front desk was competent though not effusive in their welcome; we joked a bit with them and that seemed to warm them up,

The hotel is right in Natchez, along the river, within walking distance to anything in the town core. The location and price/quality ratio are the selling points for this hotel. Lots of free parking, We'd stay there again, understanding that the hotel is not going to charm the pants off of you - the "Natchez experience" won't be found in your stay at this particular hotel - but you'll get a decent place to stay at a good cost.

We booked our room online en route to Natchez. We arrived a little before sunset, anxious to get to our room for the view. The lobby was empty, no one behind the counter. It took some time before a clerk arrived. She barely spoke, offered one word answers to questions, and then quickly disappeared again. We found our room to be adequate, but not clean. The view was lovely, but difficult to see through the built up dirt on the windows. We tried for nearly half an hour to reach the front desk to inquire about restaurants in the area. No one ever answered the front desk or guest services or operator buttons. We finally called the hotel's 800 number and at last got an answer, but no help. Breakfast was very good. We were glad our stay was only one night.

Thank you so much for your positive comments about the hotel's lovely view and hot breakfast buffet. We sincerely apologize for the unfortunate difficulty you experienced with our front desk staff. The level of service you described is certainly uncommon at our property, as we strive to provide excellent customer service. Our team makes strong efforts on a daily basis to ensure proper staffing of our hotel. We typically schedule at least two front desk agents during the day and evening for check-outs and check-ins, for adequate customer support. We also keep a front desk agent staffed overnight, who should indeed be available, immediately, at your service. Thank you for sharing this valuable feedback; we are taking your comments into sincere consideration. Our management team has arranged a staff meeting to determine the reason for your inconvenience, and we will take appropriate action to resolve the issue. Next time you travel to Natchez, MS, we hope you will the Natchez Grand Hotel another chance. Thank you again.

Big, impersonal looking hotel - service is OK - river views are spectacular! Clean, airy rooms; breakfast is adequate especially for kids; bar/lounge is awful! Pool is right off the parking lot and kind of silly. The hotel has so much potential which is not adequately realized.

Room Tip: Definitely choose the river view rooms!

Surprisingly low rates and located within walking distance of everywhere you'd want to go downtown. Clean, quiet, spacious rooms for the rate, and a good breakfast to boot. There is a bar in the lobby, but Bowie's Tavern is right across the street.
