Owner description: Construction on this architectural gem, the largest octagonal house in the U.S., began in 1860, but was interrupted by the onset of war. A National Historic Landmark, the still-unfinished mansion is an enduring symbol of the impact of the Civil War.

“Interesting stop”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

One of the more fascinating stops you can make. Would have liked a bit more detail on the entire property and more details on the family and original items

“Nutt's folly - not to be missed”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

This is a very different plantation house, and one that was never entirley completed. It is well worth the visit to just hear about the history of the house and the family who built it. Although the house was never completed due to the vagaries of war, the family still occupied the bottom half, and you follow the history of that family to the present day. The docent that accompanied us on our visit was a young man related to the family, and he was able to regale us with details from his family history to the present day.
It is a truly imposing and unusual house from the exterior, and has an interesting story to tell from the inside.

“Amazing property”

Do not miss seeing this property. It is amazing - an unfinished architectural wonder. It is our favorite of all the historic home tours.

“Not to be missed!”
Reviewed December 29, 2012 via mobile

Visited during the week between Xmas and new years and really enjoyed our visit. The docent was gracious and entertained us with personal stories about the family the lived in the basement for many years. The house is an excellent example of the effect the civil war had on the lives of the rich plantation owners. It is fascinating to see so much of the original furniture from that period still in the house. The garden club ladies did an excellent job restoring the house. Don't leave Natchez without a stop here.

“Nice tour”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

Enjoyed the tour. The guide was very good. Just seemed weird to tour a home that was never finished.
