Owner description: Recognized as an architectural masterpiece among Catholic churches in the south, it is the spiritual home of a vibrant St. Mary Catholic community today. The construction of this place of worship was begun in 1842 as the Cathedral of the newly established Diocese of Natchez. The St. Mary congregation takes pride in the basilica's colorful and prayerful setting, and welcomes visitors from near and distant places. The city of Natchez, on the Mississippi River and the birthplace of Mississippi, is a tourist destination because of its historic ante-bellum homes. St. Mary Basilica, also ante-bellum, is the city's central landmark.

“Christmas Mass”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

A beautiful, breathtaking interior awaits! The first time there, I didn't follow the mass at all! Your eyes dart to some of the most beautiful craftsmanship you will ever behold! Really enjoy visiting this grand Basilica and had a great evening listening to Handels Messiah during the Christmas season.

The church has stained glass windows and reminds me of the churches in Italy. It is beautiful and worth seeing.

Wonderfully decorated Catholic Church, be sure to visit on your trip to Natchez. One of the landmarks of the city. I understand they are almost always open for visitors.

“Very Nice Cathedral”
Reviewed April 18, 2014

Well worth a visit , although more information for visitors would be good, while appreciating it is a working building and not a museum.

Very nice inside , plenty of on street parking and a disabled lift !! strange USA still use "handicapped" !!
