Who visits cemeteries? My traveling companion is fascinated by history and headstones, so we went to the cemetery. The rows and rows of headstones of Unknown Soldiers were a poignant reminder of the tragedy of war. The attendant at the cemetery office told us that these were graves of unidentifiable soldiers, both Union and Confederate, that had been brought from Civil War battlefields around the area. Other identical headstones, also placed with regimental precision, identified veterans of other wars. A resting place of honor, for sure.
