“Interesting but not required”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

It's interesting but if you are short on time, it is not a must see. It was good to take my kids too... They could burn off some energy and they were overloaded with southern homes and history at this point.

“fascinating monument to native American's”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

Emerald Mound is a huge pre-columbian earthen mound located in a wooded, rural area. There are several interpritive signs to help you appreciate the mound. The site is administered by the National Park Service. There are no facilities at this site. Would be nice if there was some sort of museum, or even restrooms, but are none. Lack of facilities is the reason for four stars vs. five.

“An Important Part of the Natchez Trace Experience”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

The nation's second largest Mississippian structure is roughly 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 football fields in area and 35 feet high. An ascending path and stairway lead you to the top where you can truly experience the scope of the ceremonial mound used by pre-Natchez native Americans 1200-1650 CE. There is educational signage.
This is part of the Natchez Trace Parkway experience which includes coasting along under the 50 mph speed limit with frequent stops to learn about history and nature.

“Mound I think your time can be spent better elsewhere”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Its just a dirt mound with grass. The picture is enough. You don't need to drive there. You are wiser to spend your time at the plantations. Also spend time eating in a plantation. If you are on the trace check out the swamp. A picture doesn't do that justice.

“Remarkable”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

An amazing example of Native American tradition with a good view from the top. We were taking pictures of all of the mounds as we followed the Trace and this one was as spectacular as the previous reviewers indicated.
