Alittle bit of a drive from downtown Natchez but worth it! The grounds, mansion and outbuidings look much the same that I would imagine they would during the time they were lived in. Wonderful Park Ranger gave enthusiastic tour and amazing story of the families that lived there. Great experiece!

Didn't see inside main mansion. Grounds fair. Carriage house okay. Slave exhibit is all full of reading panels except one room. Not worth the stop.

Loved it - the National Park Service guide was beyond outstanding. He was passionate about the house and the history. Lots to see and cheaper than the other houses.

Melrose is part of the Natchez National Historical Park, so the tour guides are either National Park Service rangers or volunteers who provide a historically accurate tour, rather than one filled with urban legends and myths. The history of the house and the families who lived there are interesting and intriguing enough -- they don't need artificial embellishment. The guided tour is certainly worth the fee -- and you're helping to continue the restoration -- and then, you are free to wander the grounds for as long as you like and visit the slave cabins and other buildings open to the public. The gardens aren't at their best in November, of course.
