“A very pleasant surprise”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

Two things that prevents me from giving this an "excellent". One is the noise. It is located on the highway and you can hear freeway noise even in the room. But the noise is only mildly distracting and was not an issue for us. Second is the bathroom. It appeared to be a very old bathroom, possibly from the original property, that was given a facelift. It was clean and spacious, new tile and appealing decor but no counter space. Only a tiny, old fashioned pedestal sink. They did provide a storage "tower" so at least you had room for your stuff. Those two things aside, this is a great property for a great price. So lets move on to the positive. Even though it was on the freeway, for our purposes the location was great. Sausalito is a quick 5 minute drive, the city a quick 15 minute drive and Mill Valley is charming in and of itself. Rooms are spacious, contemporary and well appointed. We had a lovely view of the back patio and "bay" (a body of water on back of hotel). The breakfasts are incredible! Huge spread with many choices. It was included in price of the room. The public areas are very well decorated and upscale, clean and inviting. We also had a wine and cheese happy hour included. Staff is incredibly accommodating. Now here's the best part, and my travel partner did a lot of comparing- the price is a great value, especially for Marin. We were there in the winter so couldn't really utilize the outdoor areas for eating or happy hour, but they look very nice. I will return to Acqua.

Room Tip: request a room second higher up, facing water. This seems to be the most quiet

Despite an odd location just off the freeway, in a small office park, the interior of this hotel is contemporary and comfortable. We enjoyed the top floor junior suit with a sitting area off the bedroom. The highlight is the mountain/bay view from the balcony. Other pluses include the huge bathroom and very comfortable bed. We were not bothered at all by freeway noise. Breakfast area seemed cold and charmless, but I'm sure in warmer months having breakfast on the outdoor deck overlooking the bay is a great way to start they day. Parking was difficult in the small parking lot (shared with other businesses in the office park).

Room Tip: Top floor junior suite was a winner.

We stayed at the Acqua Hotel -- room 107 -- from Monday 11/4 through Thursday 11/7. We had a lovely view of the bay and a small patio. Our room put us in close proximity to the front desk area (and the hot tea/coffee bar). It was a peaceful location (though being on the bottom floor means that if there are guests in the room above, you may hear them when they move about).

Our room had a king bed that was ridiculously comfortable, with a soft down comforter. The bedside clock radio was iPod friendly. We also had bath salts for the lovely deep tub.

I can honestly say we had everything we needed from the hotel staff and more.

Prior to arriving, because we were getting married during our trip, I worked with Rachel at Acqua to arrange flowers and wedding cake petit fours to be delivered to our room. Rachel recommended a local florist and arranged for our bouquet, which was absolutely gorgeous. The petit fours from Sausalito's Dragonfly bakery were delivered to the hotel.

Since Rachel was not going to be on shift, she saw to it that both Jordan and Genevieve at the front desk were fully informed about our plans, and they then saw to it that everything was arranged in our room before we arrived back from the City.

Our experience could not have been better all around. All of the front desk personnel were amazing: efficient, friendly, helpful and just plain wonderful.

As almost everyone has already mentioned, the full breakfast was terrific and plentiful. The 24-hour hot tea and coffee bar at the front desk area came in handy on several late evenings. There was a generous wine and cheese setup each evening, and warm cookies later. A very cozy and welcoming lounge area was perfect and peaceful, and there is also an outdoor area and upper deck to enjoy your wine with the sunset.

The Acqua is literally only minutes from everything: Sausalito, Larkspur (ferries), the Strawberry shopping center, Tiburon, Corte Madera shopping, etc. and the front desk folks will see to it that you have maps and directions to get where you want to go.

I highly recommend the Acqua -- they will see to your happiness!

Room Tip: Our experience of our first floor room was excellent -- room 107 is close to the front desk area (co...

This is a winner for several reasons, the rooms are nice and comfortable, all look out on Mt. Tam and the Richardson Bay shoreline. There's a breakfast room with a huge deck, and it's a great place to start the day. The people are super nice and helpful. There's a nice bowl of green apples on the front desk and a spread of fruit and cheeses with wines every late afternoon. It's an easy hop into the city, as the hotel is located on 101, slightly north of Sausalito.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from 101 if you want to open your windows.

The hotel was rasy to go as it was beside the motorway, and you can get yourself to SF very quick for the same reason. The room was clean, but there were not a kettle in it. The breakfast was nice and there were also a self-service coffee/tea/hot chocolate point nearby the reception. The walkways were atleast mostly in outsideair.

My husband and I had an opportunity to stay in a water view junior suite with fireplace room at this lovely hotel. We were on a trip celebrating our 30th anniversary. While this hotel is located just off the 101 it was surprisingly quiet in our room. It was centrally located to all of the things we wanted to do. The room was modern and comfortable with a very cozy bed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good but it would be nice if they had a few additional items such as almond or soy milk for folks who can't do dairy. The location on Richardson Bay was beautiful. I will definitely plan on staying here again when in the bay area.

Room Tip: Upper suites are quiet, not sure about other rooms

This is a wonderful small hotel just a little off Hiway 101 near Mill Valley, north of San Francisco. It features modern comfortable rooms, a very good full breakfast buffet, wine and cheese in the early evenings, and even a couple of bikes to borrow. Very friendly and unpretentious. Only minor negative, as far as I know, they do not belong to any frequent traveler organization. That would be good.
