Liked this hotel and its proximity to SF (convenient to the Larkspur ferry to SFO with free parking). Stylish lobby, fantastic breakfast with hot choices (eggs/meat), fresh fruit (wonderful melon/pineapple display), pastries, bagels, d-i-y waffles, yogurts, cereals, etc., and a great, spacious balcony area overlooking the water with tables and chairs. We were out and about in SF so didn't get to sample the wine and cheese, but had previously stayed at the sister hotel, Water's Edge in Tiburon, and enjoyed it there. Didn't get to take advantage of their free bike rentals either, but liked that they offered it. Staff was very friendly and efficient.

Room (#214) was nice - standard size for a 2x queen bed room - and clean with comfy beds and a big oval soaking tub with shower over in the bathroom. Another nice touch was the Tommy Bahama hand soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers. Mini fridge was convenient. Received a 'welcome' card and Belgian chocolates on arrival

Unfortunately, despite all the lovely touches, the one lasting memory I'm likely to have of this hotel is the noise from the road. Route 101 runs right next to this hotel and seems to be busy 24-7. Not surprising considering it is the main route to the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco, as well as carrying commuter traffic northbound in the evening. Even though we asked for and received a room away from the road, the road noise was ever-present. I'm a light sleeper, so this really sucked, but I'm not sure if there are actually any 'quiet' rooms at this hotel. The noise from the ice dispenser opposite our room didn't help either. We had a room overlooking the water if you looked ahead/to the right, but highly visible and directly to the left and crossing that same water is route 101. Our room had a small step-out balcony but there was no way you could enjoy the fresh air and the tranquil water view without the incessant traffic noise, which was loud enough with the balcony door closed. In addition, there's another small (and busy) road that runs right next to the hotel and provides northbound access to route 101. This was where the hotel trash cans were placed (right outside of our room) and emptied at 6 am daily!

Oh, if only you could pick up this hotel and move it away from the road...

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road but if you're a light sleeper, this still may not help you get...

My wife and I stayed here while we visited family and friends. I was truly impressed with the comfort of the bed and the three great nights of sleep it gave us. The staff was responsive and very courteous. Also, we had a great free breakfast with a wide assortment of food from lots of fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, to bacon, and eggs. It was a wonderful way to start our day and represented a good value to boot. The location of the hotel is right off 101 and puts you minutes from downtown Mill Valley. My wife thought the bathroom was very bright and found that the lighting was good for applying make-up. She did say that it could use another shelf in the bathroom. This is a great place for business travel as well as an excellent choice for a couples week-end.

Not all the rooms in this hotel are the same size. So watch out for small rooms with exterior doors that have traffic noise especially in the morning. The free breakfast is really good and makes this place a decent value.

The hubby and I stayed here for a quick getaway. The pictures on the website for this hotel are about spot on. Our room was an upper corner room just above the patio, the one they show on the website. The view was lovely, and the room very comfortable. The bed was great for us, just right. The bathroom was a nice size, but it could use a little updating. This hotel was once a Joie de Vivre hotel, so there are some well-appointed touches (love the front room sofa bench and bath products) and some Ikea finds, but it all works. It is not the Four Seasons nor does it try to be. But if you are looking for a cute boutique hotel getaway that is easily accessible form 101, with an attentive staff, wonderful views and a yummy breakfast (included in the price), you just found it!

We decided to stay in Mill Valley as opposed to paying upawards of $500 to stay in Sausalito. The Acqua Hotel was really good! I only say 'really good' because I feel that they could use a fresh coat of paint, at least in my room. I could tell where there were a few holes in the walls that had to be patched and the bottoms of the walls/baseboards were a bit beat up. The sink in our bathroom didn't have a stopper in it. These are all cosmetic things that I noticed and nothing that ever posed a detriment to our stay. The room was clean and VERY comfortable- we had a Jr King Suite that overlooked the water and was wonderful, especially given that we had a balcony and left the door cracked at night for some cool breezes. The breakfast buffet was HUGE and varied, which is quite unlike most hotel breakfasts. The wine/cheese happy hour was great too! I noticed several people post about the noise, and after coming from downtown San Francisco, this place was church quiet! Of course if you're on the first floor, I could see how it may be louder (we were on the 2nd floor). They delivered a pack and play for our room which fit nicely in the corner of the sitting area of the room, which meant that the baby had some space from us and it helped me to sleep better. Staff was friendly and overall we had a really nice experience. Oh, and they had the clock radio playing soft music for us when we checked in- really liked that nice touch! Made it feel more personal. Even had a wine corkscrew to use in the room, because after all, wine country is right around the corner!

Lovely views of the water from every room, nice landscaping and interior design, comfortable mattress and password-free access wireless but - oh my - the room flat out stinks of tobacco, the light bulb next to bed is burned out, TV screen is grainy, and the towel rack is 1/2 pulled off the wall.

Room Tip: Ask for room which had never been a designated smoking room.
