Holiday Inn Express Mill Valley San Francisco Area
Ranked #2 of 5 Hotels in Mill Valley
Reviewed July 8, 2013

The Mill Valley Holiday Inn Express is right on the bike paths, and was the primary reason for selecting this venue (had previously stayed here when under different hotel management and name).

The breakfast is adequate, and in a nice area off the lobby (and with outdoor seating with a firepit as well).

The rooms are very basic, beds adequate, bathrooms small with minimal toiletries.

Staff was generally nice and accommodating (stored bicycles shipped to the hotel that arrived a day before we did).

The outdoor pool is heated (to a fairly comfortable temp if you are actually swimming), with a nearby hot tub if one needs warmer water.

Marin county has a lot of good restaurants and things to do, and if you are only going to sleep at the hotel, it should be fine. Again, bike trail access is literally attached to the parking lot, with flat paved paths all around the area (or climbing up Mount Tam on the roads if you prefer).

On the map this place looks far removed from San Francisco, but that's okay. The highway from SF goes right past this hotel, putting you there in less than 10 minutes. The hotel buildings appear to have been built in the 1980's, but there have definitely been improvements lately. The pool area is clean and well maintained and the security of the hotel is good. There is a walking path right next door that leads the two blocks into Mill Valley itself, so you can easily walk there. The selling points for our family were the complimentary s'mores every evening and especially the complimentary hot breakfast in the morning. This place is a good deal and worth it!

Room Tip: We chose a room that was facing east, and while the view wasn't spectacular, it was nice and qui...

This is good affordable option to avoid the high priced places in the city. Just a quick mostly easy drive across the bridge and your in the city by the bay. Very friendly front desk. Our room was ground floor and right by the walking trail. Clean and comfortable with all the usual amenities. The breakfast area gets a little cramped if guests are not using the outside tables. There is restaurant on site but we opted to check out the close by Buckeye Roadhouse which was one of the best dinners we have had so far on our three week trip. Great for dogs as there is a walking trail right outside the property.

Room Tip: Great for dogs as there is a walking trail right outside the property.

We arrived to find our first floor, double queen room facing the freeway was a bit musty, so inquired about another room. We were quickly accommodated by the front desk staff to a much better location on the second floor that had a view of Mt. Tam and the walking path along the water. The king bed was comfortable, too! We enjoyed a morning walk on the path after a nice breakfast downstairs. My husband was especially happy that there was a pancake machine - and it was great to have scrambled eggs, toast and sausages available for him along with my preferred fruit, yogurt and juice options. Everything was clean and the housekeeping staff very nice. We parked our car (free of charge) under the light by our room, and all was secure for the three nights we stayed. Because we were there for a wedding, we had relatives and friends staying there as well and everyone seemed pleased with the food and lodging. It was certainly convenient to our other destinations in the area because of the proximity to the freeway. I would recommend this hotel on the basis of asking for rooms facing Mt. Tam and the walking path - a surprisingly quiet, lovely view.

Room Tip: We appreciated the change of location to the side facing Mt. Tam and the walking path along the wate...

I have visited San Francisco a number of times and as we were on a fly drive holiday we wanted a location away from Fisherman's Wharf, in a quieter position yet with easy access to the city. Also as we had a car we wanted to avoid paying in the region of 40dollars a night to park it. This hotel fitted the bill perfectly.
After travelling for nearly 20 hours from the UK, picking up the car & negotiating the streets of San Francisco first impressions mean a lot. We arrived at around 9.30pm and received a warm and friendly welcome from the 2 staff on reception. We were advised that if we wanted to eat, that the Italian Restaurant next door would be closing shortly, so we just dropped our bags and went to eat at Frantoio's next door. Which is very good, we ate there 0n 3 nights during our 4 night stay.
Our bedroom was excellent clean & modern with a large flat screen tv and a lovely comfortable bed with nice bedding on it. We had no complaints about the room at all. The room we were allocated (220) was at the back of the hotel overlooking the nature reserve and one of the closest to the highway 101. Some people have complained about road noise, but it was minimal, in fact we slept with the balcony door open and still could hardly hear the traffic.
Breakfast were more than acceptable with a choice of cereal, yoghurt, fruit, toast & pastries and a couple of daily hot options ie Bacon & scrambled egg.The breakfast room is a little small but we just took ours back to the room and sat in the sunshine on the balcony.
During our stay we visited Stinson Beach and Muir Woods which are very close and also drove into Sausilito and caught the ferry into San Francisco which I would recommend, its a lovely journey. We also borrowed the hotel bikes and toured the areas around the hotel which were very pleasant, We also found the swimming pool very nice and refreshing after a busy day sightseeing.
A previous person has mentioned getting their car broken into, our convertible was parked next to theirs on our last night, right under our window, we heard or saw nothing. All I can say is wherever you are in the world if you leave cameras on display in your car overnight there is a good chance that they will get stolen.
We had a wonderful 4 night stay here, it suited our needs perfectly and I would recommend it to anybody wanting reasonably priced accommodation in a nice peaceful location, yet with easy access to San Francisco

I stayed here just after landing in San francisco. there was no acknowledgement of my gold priority club status, in fact there was a don't care attitude at check in. The room with a view of the pool looked out on a fence. Breakfast consisted of protein products and some yellow mush. if you are looking for a place to stay in Mill Valley, drive by and find somewhere else.

Room Tip: try the second floor inside

We spent here two nights. The place is located north from GGB (pretty nice neighborhood), but it is close to highway and beneath it, making it secluded, i.e. perfect place to break into your car.
We were ready to go and found our car broken into (camera with lens kit got stolen).
The policeman mentioned it happens at least twice a week! The staff was friendly and helped us in the best way they could. Breakfast area was crowded, but food was Ok. No microwaves in the entire hotel! Good thing: you can open the door to the balcony and enjoy the cold breeze ;)

I would recommend to stay here with a family, but make sure you parked your car CLOSE to THE OFFICE!

Room Tip: Make sure you park your car close to the office - safety is a big issue! Pacific catch restaurant i...

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience on trip advisor. I also am truly sorry your car was broken in to. I can personally vouch that this is the first car break in in the 4 months of employ at the hotel. I am not sure how the officer came up with that information. Thank you again for your feedback and we appreciate your business.
