We drove out to Muir woods our first day on the west coast and had a great time. Parking reservations are a must and I would recommend going first thing in the morning. Great views and walking paths. The trees are amazing.

With a choice of walks (by distance), this is a great place to visit for a relaxing time. Amazing 50m high trees hundreds of years old.

Must see to believe it... Worth the drive but be sure to make a reservation for parking before driving up to the location for there is no service once you get there. This is absolutely amazing to see these ancient old trees and how wonderful mother nature truly is. Definitely going back to hike more trails.

The biggest trees in the bay area are here. There is a pleasant creek with year round ferns and redwood sorrel.

If you are a tourist who want to take a quick peek of redwoods, and you are well prepared, go right ahead. Understand you have to buy tickets 3-10 days ahead, and you are going to walk from parking lots. On the other hand, if you have a choice of other places on your way, there are less challenging national forests, state parks, etc. offering similar/better experience. In other places, you don't have to contend with packed fellow tourist on trails or in parking lots that reminds you are near one of the large city.
