“Still Excellent”

I can report that the Glendale Hotel and Villa Napoli are as good as my last visit. Tony and his staff go out of their way to make your stay and meal memorable. The specials and the Seafood dishes are excellent.

havent visited this resteraunt for a number of years as the set menu never changes. and weve always had a long wait before you are seated , anyway we thought we would pop in to see what it was like on sat evening . we looked in the window and their was hardly anyone in there.(7.30) so we thought we would see if we could get a table without booking. we were greeted by one of the waiters who upon hearing we hadnt booked told us in a very rude tone that we would have to wait! he kept us waiting by the doorway while answering the phone. then walked away to tell another waiter. (probably about the no bookers!) he came back over to us and mumbled something about .will get you a menu. and walked off. i looked at my partner and said shall we go ? at which point someone was carrying a box to go outside . so we took the opertunity to walk out while opening the door for this person . what should of happened was he could hae asked us to take a seat and maybe order a drink and he would find out if therewas a free table . once again we will probably leave it for a while before calling in to dine there ,

Don’t stay here on a Monday. I've stayed at the Glendale Hotel many, many times, but not for a few years so when i visited the area recently i decided to book in. I arrived about 18.30 and on first impression and thought the hotel was closed, thankfully it wasn’t and i knocked on the door and was let in, the young lad that greeted me was pleasant and check in was simple. After a shower i went downstairs for a few drinks and a meal, to my horror the bar and restaurant was CLOSED. My only option was to go across the road to the Railway pub and eat there. I have had a lot of good times at the hotel in the past and made a number of friends there and eaten some fantastic food but my latest experience was awful.

Spent a very pleasant evening here in room 8, which I must say was beautiful. Large airy room well decorated and spotless clean. We spent a lovely few hours looking around the beach front and small town and then booked for our evening meal in the restaurant belonging to the hotel. The food and service were excellent and the restaurant was very busy but we did not have to wait too long for our food.
It just a shame that breakfast service was a complete shambles, I ordered srambled eggs on toast which came out cold, we asked for coffee and had to wait at least 15 minutes when it eventually came it was so strong you could have stood a spoon up in it. There was no milk on the table and we asked twice but still getting it so had to get it off the buffet table ourselves. No pepper in the pepper pots even though there two on the table. But all in all we had a very enjoyable stay and would definately come back again.

We spent one night at the Glendale and were given a room on the front overlooking the Street, however we did not notice much noise during the night, The room itself was bright and airy with a decent bathroom. The cooked breakfast was OK but we were not offered any toast. The highlight of our stay was the meal in the restaurant which was excellent. The menu is very varied and reasonably priced. You must take your time reading it so as not to miss the jokes! Everyone who worked there tried to make your meal enjoyable, and they succeeded. If you stay here make sure you use the restaurant.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking garden will be quieter

Made the mistake of booking tickets for a show in Cardiff on the same day as the Rugby Six Nations decider at Cardiff Arms Park. As a result could not find a hotel anywhere in Cardiff (except at silly inflated prices), so looked further afield. We love Penarth, and even there we struggled. Tony at Glendale came back and said they could help, but only had one room - but the bathroom was down the corridor. We grabbed it straight away - and were very pleasantly surprised. Location is great - 2 minutes to main street, 3 minutes to rail station, and 10 minute walk to the seafront. Room turned out to be lovely, and bathroom - which was very nice - was only 5 steps away. Room was nicely appointed - wash-hand basin, flat screen TV and all homely comforts. Only downside was no heating in room. Restaurant looked nice with lots of quirky antiques and touches, although we didn't eat there. The hot cooked breakfast was superb.
