I have now been to the Pilot quite a few times since it has opened. Once you find somewhere good - I suppose you tend to keep going back. The cleanliness of the pub is inviting. The staffs are very friendly, and welcoming – whilst also extremely attentive. You never have to ask for anything, as they are already on the case! The Pilot have made some last minute bookings for myself and my friends, and they really made sure everything was done in order to get us in, extremely welcoming. There were 12 of us eating in there on a Saturday night for a friend’s Birthday, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were delighted with the food, at an affordable price for two courses each. The chef’s certainly pay attention to detail, and it really comes across in the flavours of their food. Their Pinacolada dessert is the best, which comes with pineapples in three ways, simply to die for. The lamb I’ve had several times was pretty special, and lets not forget their excellent Fish&chips– a must try. In general this pub has been a lovely place to go to since it has opened and I shall continue to bring friends here for dinner and lunches and even just for meeting friends for drinks.

We were very pleased to find such a great restaurant in Penarth. The first 3 meals we had were really very good. It was difficult to choose what to eat, as there were so many tasty, interesting dishes to choose from.
However we returned at the beginning of July with a group of relatives who were staying with us from London. Unfortunately we had raved about the Pilot to them beforehand. We were all very dissapointed. We all felt the meals were very average and uninspiring. Some of the dishes were no longer available even though they were still on the blackboard, such as the mussles. 3 of us had bruschetta's which were stodgy and nothing special. 3 of us also had the chicken with patata's brava's which was very mediocre and the temperature was tepid as though they had been left standing for a long while before being served. The choice of desserts was also dissapointing on this particular evening.
Its such a shame when restaurants start well but they cannot maintain a good standard. We will give it a further try in a few months and we hope what we experienced that night was just a 'one off'.

We popped in for a drink after visiting the house we are buying just down the road, having heard that it was worth a visit. The decor is really nice with a selection of mis-matched tables and chairs and a range of tables large enough to cater for most parties. We sat outside which is unfortunately on the road (and not the view) side of the building. The views from the main dining room inside are fantastic though. The venue was varied and interesting and we opted for four different things. The duck looked beautiful, it was really well presented and cooked to perfection although the portion size was quite small. The fish and chips was of the standard we've come to expect from this chain (that of the New Conway) and was excellent and I had an unusual baked halloumi, tomoato and chickpea ragu which, despite the odd sounding combination, worked really well and was really tasty. They have a good selection of wines and real ales together with the usual bar selection and the staff were all friendly and attentative. I would definitely recommend The New Pilot and will be a regular visitor once we move in!

I attended this pub/restaurant several weeks ago with my husband and his elderly parents for lunch. The choice, quality and presentation of the food together with the service was very impressive, because of that we made reservations for the Cheese and Wine night that took place on the 10th July. This for £25 per head included a six course meal with a different drink with each course, not only wines, also an elderflower Collins and a pear cider to compliment each cheese influenced course. Each course was delightful, I particularly liked the feta and zucchini fritters. The front of house were attentive, informative and I couldn't fault the service or the food. I will definitely be looking on their website for any other Special Event evenings. Would highly recommend a visit to this establishment.

We were taken here after a friends recommendation. From the outside looks just like a typical street corner Pub, in a residential street. However inside is a bright , clean and ever so slightly quirky eatery, where the food is absolutely gorgeous. We had Duck and Lamb dishes as mains both costing less than £15 each. but the presentation and taste was really top class.. would grace any restaurant in the country.. Starters and sweets were likewise faultless.
All in all an enjoyable evening, that left us feeling that we had experienced something very special.
