“Loved our stay here and pet friendly”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

We stayed in cabin 56 from June 28th - July 2nd. We had a GREAT time here and very much enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean and spacious enough for 2 adults and our big black lab. The staff was VERY friendly and are very accomodating. In addition, the onsite restaurant makes things even more convenient. The food is excellent. Great staff and great service. I'd definitely recommend this place to others visiting the Black Hills and hope to return someday. You will not be disappointed.

When traveling West, we made a stop in Keystone. Using our trusty TripAdvisor App, we found the Powder House Lodge. It was adorable. We staying in a private one-room cabin and our friends stayed in the cabin next door. Although we did have a view of the road, rather than the woods, it was a great find. The staff were accommodating and the rooms were quite clean and well decorated, with nice linens and adorable woodsy decor. The next morning we had an amazing breakfast in the lodge diner and were well pleased with our meals. Upon leaving we drove a very short distance to Rushmore. This was a great find!! I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for the most secluded cabin available and take a short morning walk along one of the trails. Th...

Very convenient to visiting Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park with Black Hills ambience; just an hour from Badlands and Wind Cave National Parks also; we enjoyed the honeymoon cabin with the porch swing, table and chairs for eating, and hot tub; the room was very clean and cozy immediately making you feel like a home away from home; room also had a small table as well as sink/counter with microwave and mini fridge and a sofa; the restaurant has a great breakfast (we ate breakfast there every morning after our first) We also tried dinner there twice and everything we had was good and presented well; staff here is very helpful and they take pride in people enjoying the accomodations and restaurant; would definitely recommend and would stay again when in the area.

We were supposed to stay at the Garden Cottages in Rapid City. My brother booked for us and put 2 kids instead of 3. After driving for over 6 hours to get there, we went in and they rufused us. Left without a place to stay in the busy season here we were lucky enough to come across Powder House. The staff is amazing and friendly. Our room slept 4 adults and 3 children very comfortably. It is really clean and close to Mount Rushmore. You can't go wrong staying here. And the prices are the best we found. Even better han those much further away.

First time to Black Hills. We really enjoyed the Lodge. Rooms were super clean. Staff very friendly. We ate breakfast at the restaurant and it was probably the best breakfast we've had in awhile. I'm sure lunch and dinner would be just as good. Very good location for seeing Mt. Rushmore, Rushmore cave and the little strip in Keystone. Would highly recommend.

My wife and I spent a night at Powder House Lodge and found it to be a convenient and relaxing place to stay. The cabins are very comfortable and clean. Our porch had a swing along with two chairs. Inside, there were two beds, a kitchen table and chairs, TV, tub and shower, iron and ironing board, and coffee maker. (I think it had a microwave and mini fridge too, but not certain). It has an outdoor pool which looked like it was well maintained. We were very impressed with the food. We had supper and breakfast there. Both were excellent and reasonably priced. They also have a bar with an outside sitting area. It's only about a ten minute drive to Mount Rushmore from there. No heavy traffic either. Staying here was better than staying in a hotel. It just seemed "homey". Your Rushmore parking pass is good for a year. So we went that night and saw it lit up, then checked out the following morning and spent the day at the park. The staff is very friendly and personable. They also told us of other places of interest in the area. (Pigtail Drive) I would HIGHLY recommend Powder House to anyone planning on visiting the Mount Rushmore and Keystone areas.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms up on the hill.

We stayed in 2 different cabins and both were very nice. Clean and comfortable with nice sitting areas on the porch. Very dog friendly and they have laundry facilities. Staff was very helpful and accommodating for a last minute additional nite. We ate breakfast and dinner in the restaurant and both were good. Liked the convenience of eating on site.

Room Tip: The further up the hill the better.
